The Patriots promoted a linebacker from their practice squad to the 53-player roster on Saturday, signing rookie Deontae Skinner, the club said.
To make way for Skinner, the Patriots waived third-year linebacker Darius Fleming.
The 23-year-old Skinner signed with New England’s practice squad on Sept. 1, a little less than a week after being waived by the club. A Mississippi State product, the 6-foot-2, 250-pound Skinner recorded four tackles in three preseason games with the Patriots. He signed with the Patriots after the draft in May. In his final season with Mississippi State in 2013, Skinner notched 64 tackles (4.5 for loss) and intercepted a pass.
The Patriots’ promotion of Skinner comes with starting outside linebacker Jamie Collins listed as questionable for Sunday’s game at Minnesota with a thigh injury.
