Dolphins bringing back Daniel Thomas

AP

The Dolphins lost running back Knowshon Moreno to a dislocated elbow early in Sunday’s loss to the Bills and then watched Lamar Miller hobble off with an ankle problem later in the game, leaving them short on backs.

Miller was reportedly OK to return, but stayed out since the game was a blowout. Moreno will miss several weeks, however, and the Dolphins have moved quickly to bolster the depth chart in the backfield.

Agent Tony Fleming told Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald that his client Daniel Thomas has agreed on a contract with the team. It’s a return engagement for the 2011 second-round pick, who spent the last three seasons with the Dolphins and was cut on the way to 53 players last month.

Thomas offered the Dolphins mediocre production during his 40 games with the team, which contributed to Moreno’s arrival as a free agent and Thomas being beaten out for roster spots by Damien Williams and Orleans Darkwa. It looks like he’ll get another chance to show he can thrive at the professional level as the Dolphins prepare to move on without their most effective runner of the young season.

  1. AAAHhhhhhhh……
Jets Lose, Dolphins Lose, Pats win…..everything is finally starting to return to normal. I was kind of getting freaked out after week 1.
The Bills’ shot of adrenaline to the heart will last until Saturday, and then they will get back to their normal, losing ways.

  2. Can we bring back Dan Marino?

I have been a Tannehill supporter but he just doesn’t have it. I hope he makes me eat my words but I doubt it. Just too many accuracy issues.

  3. Yeah the Patriots are really great, huh?

    Typical Boston d-bag.

Once Brady’s career is done, so are they…even though they haven’t don’t jack squat since getting caught cheating. Lol.

  4. I guess Csonka was busy in Alaska…Mercury Morris was still running his mouth…Sammie Smith..well we won’t go there….Tony Paige said no not with this offensive line…So Mr. Paper or Plastic it is…I love the Dolphins…but they sure make it tough sometimes….

    13 Divison titles…7 AFC Title games…5 SUPER BOWLS AND 3 Championships..Keep hating ….U have good reason…….BAHAHAHA

  6. Shelley smith played horrible yesterday and got benched in favor of Dallas Thomas who actually played good. Dt knows the system and is an alright rb, that’s what they resign him ppl. Lamar miller NEEDS to learn how to catch. Phins up

OH ….And Im from NEW YORK…although I frequent Boston often…..

  8. FIRE PHILBIN HE IS SOFT & STILL CAN’T BEAT BUFFALO!!! Lost by 19 AGAIN!!! Sorry Fins fans I have lost faith in Philbin’s system, kind of an embarrasment on Sunday!!!

  9. They have to bring someone in, because Lamar Millar is horrible. Daniel Thomas was not very good, but at least he knows the plays, Maybe he can suddenly figure out how to play this game.
Sad about Moreno, that was an ugly injury.

  10. Daniel Thomas? I think I just threw up in my own mouth!

Give D. Willams a full week of practice as Starter and see where we are. Maybe Thomas being signed is just for depth and playbook knowledge. The Bills DLine outplayed us, plain and simple, but this game was not lost because Tannehill or the scrubs couldn’t play competitive… We lost on Special Teams! A KR TD runback, blocked Punt and 2 crappy punts. Poor Coaching, etc. the numbers between both Teams were nearly identical in pass and run. We knew this would be a tough game in Buffalo. To those that think the Bills suck, you are dead wrong. I guarantee they pummel the Patriots who played the weakened Vikings. The AFC East is competitive and no pushover anymore. Maybe the Pats do still win the Division, but it will be with 3-4 losses from the AFCE. Mark it down. Phins Up!

  11. Trade for Lacy…. Rodgers doesn’t like him anyways. We need a RB that can pass block and break tackles. Wished Miller could catch the ball better in stressful situations

  12. Everyone relax. Thomas is coming in as the 4th rb. He will never sniff the field.

    1. Miller (if healthy) 2. Williams. 3. Darkwa. 4. Thomas

  13. All of our RBs need to brush up on fundamentals: 1. upgrade your pass blocking, keep em off Thill
    2. hold onto the ball no matter what
    3. catch it and protect it
    4. follow your blocking
    5. play like you want to win
    6. run where the other team ain’t going

  14. p8riotdynastylives: enjoy it now while you can, it’ll all be over in a year or so, no Brady, buddy Bill will leave because he won’t have Brady anymore, they’ll be done, so enjoy it now while you still can LOL

  15. I turned on the TV yesterday and was surprised to learn that Buffalo still had a team. They’ve had no relevant success in about 30 years, so I assumed they were long gone. Soon enough

Really because it all started before Brady and Bill!

You do realize the Payioys have the best record in the NFL since 1994 not 2001 like most haters think.

    Since 1994

    Most wins
    Most playoff wins
    Most SB appearances
    Most SB wins

And it all started with the ownership.

And for those who say “when Brady retires blah blah blah”
Here’s the thing, the QB that replaces Brady doesn’t have to be an all time great like Brady. He just has to be good.
And they may already have him with Jimmy G. You never know.
Just think how good the fish could have been if they took Brees instead of Culpepper.

  17. wow the miami fish phins were superbowl conternders this time last week after beating the pats…. that was like a preseason game for the pats last week but it was the superbowl for the fins they came back to reaity quicker than expected though garapolo is the second best qb in afc east

  18. Yes, Daniel Thomas knows the offense, but there are better options:

Benjarvus Green-Ellis is 29, just came off a 750+yd 2013 season (almost twice that of D. Thomas), runs hard and is familiar with the zone blocking scheme which the Bengals use as well.
Jonas Grey was Dolphin in 2012 and nearly made the team – he sits on the Patriots practice squad football ready and waiting.
There’s even LaMichael James if we’re this desperate.

  19. After watching the dolphins get stomped by the bills and seeing how the dolphins stomped the patriots just 8 days ago makes you realize that the patriots will probably compete for weak division title and then lose to a real team shortly after that.

  20. Tannehill CHOKING on fourth down bootleg was enbough for me! TRADE TANNEHILL THE BUM! Watching Philbin stick with this BUM is worse than watching WANNSTUPID stick with Jay Fiedler!
FIRE JOE PHILBIN! END THE COMMITMENT TO MEDIOCRITY!

  21. It wasn’t as terrible as it appeared. Yes, losing Moreno was a blow, but Williams and Darkwa looked very good. The touchdown by Sammy Watkins was a fumble through the endzone and should have been a touchback. Yards were pretty equal, but the Phins special teams were horrid. Is that the coaching or the personnel? Wishing Tannehill could throw a long pass with accuracy. Wishing they hadn’t cut D. Williams the receiver. Good returner with great hands.

  22. Yeah all that Fiedler guy did was lead the Phins to 11-5, 11-5, 9-7 and 10-6 records, and the last playoff win in 2001. He was different than Marino but a good leader. Wasn’t the gunslinger that Marino was even though the team was more ground oriented with the add of Ricky Williams. That was his downfall. After two 11-5 seasons the Phins had a QB competition bringing in Ray Lucas, then Brian Griese, then after 4 winning seasons he was replaced by that famous talented AJ Feeley.

Sometimes a QB is better because he’s a leader than a gunslinger.
(See Trent Dilfer vs. Jeff George – who has more rings?)
