Ravens brace for major story about mishandling of Rice case

AP

As the Commissioner was facing the music after 10 days of invisibility, the Ravens were bracing for a potential storm.

Multiple sources tell PFT that the Ravens expect a major investigative story to soon be published regarding the team’s mishandling of the Ray Rice case.

Some claim that the looming report has sparked an “emergency meeting” in the Ravens’ front office.  It’s our understanding that a meeting already had been scheduled, and that the emergence of concern regarding an upcoming report about the situation was coincidental.

Either way, it appears that more will soon be known about the Ravens’ role in whatever did and didn’t happen, and whatever anyone knew or didn’t know about the situation.

Which, depending on the specific contents of the report, could result in even more scrutiny of the team and the league.

  1. Yes Sir, the Commish will be on top of it, too. He’s going to set up a committee of experts to look into it and get back to us in due time.

  2. I have a feeling having both Ray Rice and his wife in the room when Goodell addressed the domestic violence incident was what led to the minor 2 game suspension. I bet she played off the incident, glossed over the act, or just like in the other press conferences she defended him. I believe the Ravens fell for the same bs act as well, and when the tape surfaced they all realized just how bad it really was. They knew once that tape got out just how much worse it really was, and how bad they would look.

  3. Honestly did the Ravens have Hitler on their roster and just didn’t know about it?

No argument they mishandled the situation but how many times do you want to burn this stake?

So you blame a whole city for about 500 people clapping for him at a practice? Grow up clown. Fans all over defend their players. Its why Pittsburgh supports Big Ben despite his assaults on women. Baltimore has nothing to do with it.

  5. Under Roger Goodell, 56 players have been arrested for domestic violence. They’ve served a total of 13 suspended games.

Were all those situations not equally mishandled?

There’s only scrutiny on the Ravens because of the video, which should make outraged citizens ashamed of themselves because they never cared enough before.

I, for one, abhor domestic violence, but I don’t understand why everyone expects a sports league to take the place of the justice system. “Mishandled” priorities, if you ask me.

  6. These committees are getting paid by the NFL, I’d expect nothing out of it but delays & lip service.

  7. Ray Lewis murdered a guy outside of a nightclub. You gotta laugh every time you see him on TV wondering if he gets flashbacks of the man’s face he was stabbing to death. The absence of moral processing and having a 6th grade education is what the Ravens are all about. Its what feeds the machine on that team. They will go to all ends to help to continue facilitating that culture.

  8. This is beyond embarrassing for the league and the Ravens. It’s even made mainstream news in the UK for goodness sake

  9. The Freeh Report is probably going to say that the NFL made its decision based upon information supplied by the Ravens, and the Ravens withheld the part of the tape inside the elevator.

So, there was a coverup at the club level that made the league look bad for not doing the diligence it should have done.

This meeting will be to decide who gets fired and how it gets spun.

  10. Tired of attacks on a city because one man committs a crime. Some of you people must be sqeaky clean and done nothign wrong in life.

  11. misdirect, lie and obfuscate
    and most of all
    keep the cover story straight

    rinse and repeat.

Better bone up on your PR Disaster Mgmt skills Harbs/Ozzie, Storm is a brewin’

  12. And in the meantime, little attention is paid to the idiot District Attorney who didn’t think he could get a conviction based off of that tape.

  13. It would be great if even half as much effort were expended by the media to investigate our corrupt politicians and governmental abuse of power.

  14. What dont you morons get? He was suspended for hitting his wife…what did you think was on the video? Everyone from the police, the justice system, the NFL, and the Ravens saw the video. How is his suspension being dictated by the public?

  15. Great group of guys we can all thank for this. Chumps and low lifes that cant keep their hands off women. Now everybody has to pay from the top down. It even filters down to the fans who are subject to these reports 24/7 . They get to sit there and count there millions. Somebody step in and give a hard working teacher, firefighter or service man some millions. Somebody that actually would put it to good use besides paying attorneys fees.

Um, you should not be allowed to voice such an uneducated opinion. Well, actually yes you should. But, you probably spend all day saying stupid things with no base of truth in them. Good luck to you and yours. You will truly need it with your ability to interpret truth and fact.

  17. baltimore fans gave ray rice a standing ovation for beating his girlfriend/wife.

    baltimore likes low character individuals.

  18. the Ravens didn’t do the right thing, period… they assisted the NFL in giving a wrist slap to a player that

    – committed an aggravated assault against his fiance
    – damaged the franchise and league
    – endangered tens of millions in endorsement and sponsorship
    – completely disrupted the team during the season

the central theme to all of this is that Cardinals, Vikings, 49ers, and Ravens management and ownership ACTED AT THE SAME LEVEL THE PLAYERS DID.

they all tried to act like it didn’t happen so they could get on with business

problem is: we are tired of explaining what is right and wrong about NFL behavior to our kids… and when we are spending $500 a game for a premium product…. we shouldn’t have to in the first place

  19. It wouldn’t surprise me if Ozzie winds up being the fall guy in all of this.

He had a pretty amazing run as GM but honestly, his last few drafts haven’t been world-beaters and everyone needs to move on at some point. Bisciotti may cut him loose (with a generous severance package, of course) and hope that calms the storm.

  20. You’re making too much out of nothing. Ravens promised Janay that if she went all Tammy Wynette in on Ray Rice they would erect a statue of him and rename the street the Avenue of the Rays. Meanwhile, the Johnny Unitas statue cried.

  21. raven’s fans the first on other teams threads bashing them for everything…they can dish it out, but can’t take it. I read a thread this morning, there was ravenswhat, the first one to smacktalk. So, expect to get it back in kind. Esp. for Harbaugh telling everyone what a great guy rice is. He should be fired, and so should Gruesome for disappearing throughout this whole thing. The new Ray Rice Rule is here to stay.

  22. The Ravens put a statue of Ray Lewis in front of their stadium. I am not sure the ownership is even able of fully understanding what public backlash they could get from this let alone caring.

  23. Breaking! There’s a video of the whole Ravens team watching “the video” and eating popcorn, yucking’ it up.. This is getting more and more ridiculous.

  24. Who cares?! Every nfl has done the same or would have done the same, it’s a problem with the culture in the nfl. Look at the Vikings. They tried to reinstate Peterson after 1 game and he abused a 4 year old!!!

And ravens fans were lined up in drones today to turn in their rice jerseys so easy on the ravens fans are scum bags comments.

Oh yea and other than the sea chickens we’re the most recent world champs. HA!

  25. What exactly could we possibly find out that we don’t already know.

The NFL and the Ravens did their best to hide this.

Can anybody really act like they’re shocked to find out both the Ravens and Goodell knew EXACTLY what transpired.

Keep in mind Ozzie Newsome is on record saying Ray Rice told him EXACTLY what he did. Ozzie was fine with it. Roger was fine with it. Ravens ownership was fine with it. Ray Rice was clearly fine with it.

Who did the right thing? TMZ

    Let that sink in

  26. How long can a multibillion dollar industry hemorrhage before life support is necessary? They need a savior, someone trustworthy, above reproach, a HOF’er, with a spotless record. Any nominee’s?

  27. I was moderately upset about all this about a week ago. Mostly indifferent now. Everyone stop beating people so I can pay attention to the game on the field please.

HA!

Your post is a classic example of a room temp IQ Raven fan embarrassing himself . Who cares? Just the majority of people with a brain bigger than a pea. Not all Raven fans are scumbags….but you are.

  29. Yep…….

The city that ripped a team after the same was done to them.

The city that erected a statue to a guy that was an accessory to murders.

    Then this Rice situation.

You may hate Roger Goodell, but his worst mistake–as evidenced by the report that the Ravens had the video evidence–was trusting the Ravens organization and being lenient on their behalf.
Other owners will be angry that Roger gave such preferential treatment to that franchise.

  30. I still don’t think the Ravens or the NFL should be at fault for this. I question more how it was handled outside of the NFL as it seems Rice got a light smack on the wrist and told not to do it again. The Ravens are a business and wanted to keep an employee at work, it sucks, but it’s most likely true. The NFL is only at fault for being inconsistent. Not these organizations’ responsibility to investigate criminal acts.

  31. Why would the Ravens be all that concerned? They’ve already released him and publicly apologized. They’re looking pretty good right now compared to Goodell. Nobody really expects teams to go hog wild and levy extra punishments on top of what the NFL hands out.

  32. From the getgo, it appeared to me that the Ravens put heat on the NFL to go easy on Ray Rice. I think that will be the big scoop.

  33. Were forgetting the known facts and that is the Ravens did nothing. The league suspended him for two. The Ravens only dumped him once the other tape was released. The league only suspended him once they saw the tape.

If the Ravens say the elevator tape way back and did nothing, then they must really like Rice. He actually owes them for trying to downplay this hoping the tape did not come out.
