Clay Matthews: “Hard to answer” if groin injury will keep him out

AP

Packers linebacker Clay Matthews wasn’t on the field for the final minutes of his team’s 19-7 loss to the Lions on Sunday because of a groin injury.

Matthews got hurt while trying to avoid a cut block by Lions wide receiver Golden Tate and said after the game that he wasn’t sure how severe it might be. He didn’t have a much clearer idea on Monday either.

“It’s hard to answer that right now,” Matthews said, via ESPN.com. “Obviously I think it’s something I can play with, but you’ve got to make sure you’re operating at a high level. That will be the biggest obstacle, not obstacle but thing to find out, and I think we’ll know more on Wednesday or Thursday.”

Injuries have cost Matthews, who has a sack in three games this year, nine games over the last two seasons and the Packers have suffered when he’s been out of the lineup. Matthews did say that he feels good a day after the game and his condition will be updated once the Packers start practicing later this week.

  1. At least this is due to a football related injury. On my Vikings there are too many gamea missed for arrest or legal issues. On the other hand it IS nice to lead the league in something.

  2. Somehow I think it’s actually Peppers who will unleash hell on my Bears next week. We always have ex players come back to haunt us.

  3. Ask yourself this, with GB’s defense having so much trouble coverr speed, do you want to play a guy who’s injury is gonna make him a step slower?

  4. Just once it’d be nice if I could click on a packers story and read other packer fans thoughts, instead of having to wade through dozens of insults from fans of a team much worse than ours.

  5. Just how many steroids did this dude do in college? It’s crazy that he is hurt so much later in life, and yeah yeah I know football is a physical sport. But Clay is out more than others.

  6. Might as well stay off to make excuses for the Packers losing season and so forth. Whatever happen to the so called great team this year? Oh, I know, declining.

  7. Oh man, rough waters this season…I guess I should start talking about the packers from the 60’s.

  8. Another injury on your favorite team, Packer fan? Quick, make a comment about the Vikings!

You’re like a girl who is hung up on a boy and no matter what the subject is, you’ll find a way to bring them up. Lol.

GB is off to a slow start, but there is a lot of season left… if any team can handle the rough waters in the NFC North. It will be the Packers.

I don’t know if they will win the division, but I like their chances at making the playoffs.

  10. I follow the Packers pretty closely, yet I never saw anything that linked Clay Matthews to any illegal substance. Could someone please shed some light on this for me?

You follow the Packers. Apparently you don’t follow USC. He went from 165 lbs to 225 lbs in under three years. He was suspect before he was ever a Packer. Now (three seasons running, actually) his body is falling apart by his late 20’s.

You’re a homer of epic proportions if that passes your smell test.

    ___________

because people love doing stuff like that…

Whether it is true or not I can’t quite pull it off the top off my head…

I do remember hearing him and Cushing tested positive at the combine… and hearing something that they were taking something allowed in college, but not in the NFL.

Like I said… I remember hearing stories like that but I have no clue about the accuracy.

    …………………
I share your pain. I’m a Viking fan and you should see all the insults on their articles. Wait a minute, I recognize your name, I read your comments on Vike articles all the time. Get over it. Hope clay is healthy when Vikes play Pack.

  14. While he’s out nursing this injury, please wash and cut your hair.
Thinning, greasy long hair on a man is not a good look.

I really hope this comment was from a female.

  15. Might as well be done for the year to make excuses for the Packers losing season and so forth. Whatever happen to the so called great team? Oh I know, declining. The Packers are done. Lazzzy just out rushed the league’s running backs this year, might as well keep running him on every down.

So true. His body is falling apart. He went from a bench player to a 1st round draft pick in 1 year. The wonders of HGH!

  17. Vikings fans talking about HGH and passing the “smell test”….

When they have the HGH poster boy in Adrian Peterson.

Coming back from a destroyed knee in six months, STRONGER than before? Yeah, completely natural. And that giant forehead on Peterson. Not suspect at all.

  18. Good thing it wasn’t his thumb again……oh the HUMANITY! Meanwhile, Chad Greeway played last week with a hand broken in several spots and will probably play again this week with said broken hand and broken ribs now as well. One is a South Dakota farm kid, the other is a California surfer kid…….easy to see who is who.

  19. When are the queen bay packer fans going to admit Fabio isn’t worth the money they pay him? He is made of glass. Plus he is one dimensional player, he rushes the passer. Not getting there either. Dom who needs to retire, has to move Fabio around so he can be more effective. So far is hasn’t worked out for Dom.
