One of the most durable linebackers in the NFL needs a day off.
Chad Greenway, the Vikings linebacker who has played every game since 2007, has been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Falcons. It will break a streak of 115 straight regular-season games and 90 straight regular-season starts, the longest of any linebacker in the NFL.
Greenway has both a broken hand and a broken rib and hasn’t been able to practice at all this week.
The 31-year-old Greenway was the Vikings’ first-round pick in the 2006 NFL draft. He missed his entire rookie season after suffering a torn ACL in the preseason, but he hasn’t missed a game since then. He’ll be in an unfamiliar position on Sunday, on the sideline in street clothes.
