Steve Smith and the Ravens dismantle Panthers 38-10

AP

Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith got his revenge on the Panthers, who suddenly have more problems than a lack of receiving depth.

The veteran wideout led the way to a 38-10 thrashing of his old team, with two touchdowns among his seven catches for 139 yards.

The win moves the Ravens to 3-1, and proved they can move the ball with anyone.

Of course, they weren’t taking the Panthers’ best shot, as they were down to two running backs who had been promoted from practice squads the last few weeks.

DeAngelo Williams left with an ankle injury, and Jonathan Stewart was inactive with a knee problem and Mike Tolbert’s on IR/designated for return with a broken leg. So the team which had invested so heavily on backs was suddenly down to Darrin Reaves and Tauren Poole.

But that’s only half the problem as the Panthers suddenly can’t play defense.

Coupled with last week’s 37-19 loss to the Steelers, it’s the first time the Panthers have given up 35 points or more in back-to-back weeks since 1998.

For a team that rode a rock-solid defense to a 13-1 record over the last 12 games of last year and the first two of this season, they suddenly can’t stop anyone.

The Ravens beat them in every way imaginable, running for 127 yards and 454 total yards.

  1. At what point do people start to feel sorry for cam newton?

He can only do so much. His offensive line is complete garbage. He came into the season banged up and has gotten his ass handed to him in back to back weeks.

Their defense for some reason blows this year. Their secondary sucks. Why give roman harper a contract and let captain munnerlyn go. May as well have offered chump bailey a contract.

And their run defense and pass rush has gone from elite to poor for no reason. Forster ran wild on them.

The ravens are a good team credit to them but the panthers may be this years falcons or texans.

  2. Steve Smith is the most exciting player to watch on offense since Jamal Lewis. I wish we had this guy ten years ago. Smith is a straight playmaker, and you don’t coach what he has. Natural talent and a lot of it.

How could Carolina release a player like this? If that was the solution to a problem amongst the politics within the team of who was quote unquote the “leader”, it sure looks like Carolina is way much worse for the wear than Steve Smith. One of this young season’s best receivers. Newton checked out of the game early, and played like a guy who just wanted the game to be over.

The Ravens are dangerous when they get the run going. Flacco played incredible football today .

  3. The bad news is that the Ravens and Steve Smith won the game. The good news is that the Panthers have a nice and pleasant locker room.

In Gettleman we trust! Ice up son.

Have you ever seen such poor linebacking outside of the Steelers game last week? Kuehly, Blackburn and Klein have to be the slowest, not able to get of blocks group, since forever.

Wanna stop the run, get Davis healthy and replace Klein ASAP. What an embarrassment.

  4. Panthers looked absolutely horrible again today. Defense is falling apart quickly, and Byron Bell is gonna get Cam killed yet! (Still don’t know WHY we even kept him…..he’s 10 shades of useless IMO.) He couldn’t stop a freakin’ slug!

Coach Rivera better get this team fixed…..and fast! The schedule they have coming up is gonna end up being 7 straight losses in a row if he doesn’t!

Congrats to Smitty and the Ravens for a great game. You got your revenge, for sure!

  5. The panthers are completely wasting Cam Newton. If I was Cam I would be figuring out how I can end up on the Cardinals because you it’s very hard to fix a bad front office.

  6. So… baltimore beat a team that lost all their wide receivers in the off-season and their best defensive player is suspended.

    Congrats.

  7. Watching Flacco throw up lobs, bouncing off multiple people and falling in the receivers’ arms, brought back memories of their magical 2012 season.

    “Baltimore beats women….”

I’m not sure, but I think some stealers fans’ may not appreciate that description of their team.

I’m not a Panthers fan but I’m smart enough to know their best defender is Luke Kuechly and your team still has to play them. Steelers and Ravens set the bar, your Bengals better do just as well.
