Browns get Ben Tate back on the practice field

Apparently it was a perfect bye week for the Browns. Johnny Manziel didn’t end up on TMZ, and now Ben Tate is back in action.

According to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Tate was back on the practice field Tuesday after missing the previous two games with a knee injury.

Tate, who suffered a knee injury in the opener, wore a brace on his right knee but was reportedly moving well during the portion of practice open to the media.

The Browns brought him in during free agency to be their starter, but they’ve gotten good work out of rookies Isaiah Crowell and Terrance West in his absence.

“That’s what we brought Tate here for, to be the starter,” running backs coach Wilbert Montgomery said last week. “He’s the No. 1 running back in this offense. Right now, you can say we miss him. We miss his experience. We miss his leadership with the group. Speaking from that standpoint, we’ll be open arms and welcome to have Ben back into the fold, so he can come out and help us win more ballgames.”

Having too many backs is a problem they’d love to have in some places (like Carolina) right now, so working Tate back into the mix shouldn’t be much of a problem.

  1. The Browns offense will be in BEAST mode the rest of the way. Nothing like having 3 capable running backs, to platoon fresh bodies into the backfield every other play. And that will open up the play-action passing game for Hoyer, big time… especially with Jordan Cameron healthy.

Can’t wait until the Steelers march in… and limp out.

  2. Why the Browns signed him is beyond me. Stop paying RBs and trading up for undersized QBs in the draft.

  3. considering the Browns are basically playing Bowl subdivision teams from here on out and we now know that their offense is actually good let’s hope they don’t go into Colts mode where they start feeling unstoppable and then loose games they should win. This could be a playoff team THIS year.

  4. About time this team has a decent running game. For the past I don’t know how many years their running game has been pitiful. I’m very happy to see the young bucks running well but to add your number one back to an already good running game is something to be excited about. This team will be in every game this year and looks like we’ll have an exciting season to watch for once.
    GO BROWNS!!!

  5. I like the idea of trading him to Carolina, or somewhere. Crowell, West and Gabrielle have demonstrated that can more than make up for the loss of Tate.

I thought this was supposed to be Tate’s “big opportunity.”

I’d go with the kids who want to play.
