Trent Williams: Seahawks aren’t unstoppable, we can beat them

AP

As Washington left tackle Trent Williams studies film of Seattle’s defense in preparation for Monday night’s meeting, his conclusion is this: These guys are beatable.

Williams said he and his teammates won’t go into the game against the defending champion Seahawks intimidated, because they know they can win.

Can we beat them? Yeah,” Williams said, via the Washington Post. “At the end of the day, they’re not robots. They’re human beings and nobody’s perfect. Nobody plays perfect every Sunday. They have been beaten before. It’s not like they’re unstoppable. They’re a great team, no doubt about it, but anything is possible in the NFL.”

Williams said that after the embarrassment of Thursday’s loss to the Giants, he and his teammates are motivated.

“It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that we need to step up,” he said. “We’re going against one of the best teams in the NFL right now on Monday night. I think guys are going to come with their best effort, and hopefully we’ll turn this thing around.”

Beating Seattle would be a very big step toward turning things around.

  1. LOL.

The only thing that will keep this from being a blow-out are the simple odds of a team getting blown out at home in prime time two weeks in a row, but Washington isn’t in the same league as the Seahawks. So while the score will probably be closer, it wouldn’t be any more winnable.

  2. I like his Can Do.

Go ahead and mock him, but what you fail to see is a professional athlete and team player who’s got the exact right attitude. Never give up.

  3. Also, a Kirk Cousins led Redskins team defeating the Seahawks would be funny just because of how Richard Sherman would probably react to the media after the game.

  4. Tell emTrent Williams!!the ped Seahawk fans are so confident but in reality they are overrated.the San Diego game showed who they really are.we will shock them on MNF and send them back to that hippy town out west.HTTR!!!!

  5. If he was only as tough as he looks on the field. Big guy with a dark visor that needs two tampons to get thru a football game now a days!

  6. Reminds me of Dumb and Dumber when he’s told it’s a million to one long shot…

    “So you’re saying I have a chance.”

  7. Anything CAN happen but I think the only games Seattle has a chance of losing are:

    @Chiefs
    Cardinals
    @49ers
    @Eagles
    49ers
    @Cardinals

They proabably go 3-3 in those games and finish 12-4.

  8. Well after your team loses, and you get butthurt and try to fight someone half your size again, hopefully you’ll have the balls to take off your helmet this time.

  9. Yep, Cousins has a hot hand alright…I’m sure the Legion of Boom can’t wait for him to get pressured and to throw them some balls…

  10. Seattle’s pass defense is currently ranked #19 in the NFL at the Quarter poll. Clearly something is up.

  11. The Packers are one of only 2 teams since the beginning of the 2012 season to go into Century Link and beat those clowns. Seattle didn’t beat us in 2012, the refs did.

  12. This the prequel. Following the game, the quote will be “They are who we thought they were.”

And to think that after the Giants game, there were articles about how the Skins had returned to reality.

  13. Trent is absolutely correct , it’s the NFL – anything can happen and the game is at their house . The Seahawks take no team lightly , and every game is a championship opportunity .

Hawks win 28-13 . Now if he can try and not punch his opponent this time ….

  14. weed is great! the more you smoke the more you think you can accomplish the impossible! let me get some of what you’re smoking my dude. it’s probably some good ish!

  15. MNF lineup sucks this year. I know they tried to predict marquee matchups, but the way this season is shaping up I see about 3 games total I might be interested in. This one doesn’t make the list…

  16. Takes a real “man” to throw a punch at a guy NOT wearing a helmet while you still have a helmet on. And for a team that just got completely destroyed by the Giants, they sure seem confident.

    _____________

How’d the opener this year treat you?

  18. “Seattle’s pass defense is currently ranked #19 in the NFL at the Quarter poll. Clearly something is up.”

yeah it’s called opening the season against Rodgers/Rivers/Manning, 3 of the 5 best QB’s statistically in the past several years.

Sorry, but Kirk Cousins is a far cry from those guys. Unfortunately for anyone who thinks San Diego ‘exposed’ anything, not every team is going to get the luxury of having Seattle’s D on the field for 42 of 60 minutes in 115 degree heat, and even with all of that, could have lost the game at the end.

  19. I’ve been a Seahawks fan since waaay back in 2013.

Like…four moths BEFORE Sherman started making really lame commercials.

    Steve Largent?

I don’t know him, but my uncle screams REALLY loud at the games.

And I love to use hashtags to tell everyone how (overrated) great my team is.

  20. Every team is beatable, however will they? That’s a whole different story. Apparently this guy is a master of the obvious. Look at Tampa/Steelers. They were beatable.

  21. Granted, anything can happen on any given day but making bold statements like that after losing to the Giants at home by 5 td’s will not help his case.

Yeah, they played 3 of the best QBs in footbal Rogers, Rivers and P. Manningl. Cousins isn’t close to their level.

  23. When scheduling this year, the league probably thought RG3 could remain healthy for at least five weeks, so the ‘skins get two primetime games in a row against the Giants and Seahawks.

The Football Gods can be a spiteful bunch…

  24. The Seahawks should crush the Redskins after what happened in the Giant game but I wouldnt be surprised if they won this game then lose to the Cardinals.

  25. “Can we beat them? Yeah…”

Hey Trent, is that why your team lost to the Seahawks the last 3 times it made the postseason? If there’s one team you can’t beat, it’s the Seattle Seahawks. They’ve made a doormat out of the Washington Racial-Epithets for the last two decades straight.

  26. Beatable? Yes, my Chargers put a smacking on them.

Can your Washington Racial Slurs do it?

    Absolutely not.

    Learn your place.

  27. The only thing I am worried about for the Seahawks is the fact that they have to play on that sorry excuse for a field in Washington. The Racists are the among the worst in the league and I have no respect for Trent Williams after his weak post-game push/punch.

Change the name already. You idiots are making us all look bad.

  28. I see the Hawks at 12-4, with the Chargers loss (which is a good team by the way) early I see a loss against the Niners, Cards and one more away game. Could it be this Monday? I just don’t see it. These guys are still PO’d they let the Broncos back in the game. Capt Kirk is going to have to sling it because there is now way the Skins can run on the Hawks.

  29. Bashing our Pass D after 3 games? We faced Rodgers, Peyton and River in a row to start the year.

    1) Seattle was given a free touch down by the refs.

    2) Seattle’s offense wasn’t magically on the field for 17 minutes… They were on the field for 17 minutes because San Diego’s offense kept them off the field, and the few times Seattle’s offense WAS on the field, the Chargers defense sent them back to the benches.

    3) On what planet, when losing by 9 points (and should have been more without that free touchdown) can a team win it at the end? You realize that 9 points is two possessions, right?

    4) The Chargers COMPLETELY #Exposed Seattle and Sherman. It was a whooping. Seattle was NEVER in that game, EVER.

Hey, Thumbzilla, put the bong down when you’re trying to double-tap that scathing wit on a smartphone.

  32. Trent is right about one thing, the Seahawks are not “unstoppable” per say…. But unfortunately for Trent and the Skins they are not capable of stopping them. Not even close actually.

  33. There is some truth in Williams’s statement. He’s headed in the right direction, it’s true the Hawks are not perfect However, if you want to beat us you have to be and for all four quarters of the game. Don’t believe me? Just ask the niner, bronco and charger fans.

Like facing 3 of the best passing offenses in the league and 1 week on bye? That’s a small sample size, and isn’t the quarter mark of the season, as they’ve played 3 games.

  37. could Washington beat Seattle? Well, if they only played each other for 16 games, Washington might win one or two of those. So technically he’s right. Just not bloody likely.

    =============================

yep, a very mediocre 6-2 on the road last year, 4-1 in 10am starts, and they don’t lose in prime time. home or away.

  41. The postings by Seahawks fans display lots of bravado, but contain that underlying fear that every SB winner gets fiercely beat up during the following season by every team on their schedule which leads to lots of injuries and 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th stringers playing which leads to defeats. Especially dangerous are the teams like the Redskins who have nothing to lose and everything to gain by playing well beyond their normal talent and effort levels.

When clueless Seahawks fans keep predicting blowouts, these other teams hate that and the non-respect Seahawks fans heap on them. Betcha more than one Seahawk starter will get banged up and out of the line-up after this game.

Sincerely hope to see Seahawk arrogance met with great physical play by the Redskins!!! Can’t wait for those Seahawk losses to begin to pile up.

  42. I’m not sure they can beat the Seahawks. If they played a 16 game season between the two teams they might beat the Seahawks once in 16 tries. Seattle will have to make more mistakes than Washington to lose this one. Maybe a Marshawn fumble or two and a few picks from Wilson. Not likely to happen.

  43. Seattle fans using heat as an excuse, lol. I thought your team was unbeatable no matter what obstacle. The better team won in San Diego that Sunday. Better start to worry about San Fran and the Cards instead of a sorry team like the Redskins.

  44. A bunch of posts from guys who never played sports, obviously.

What type of man would TW be if he said, “We can’t beat them.”

You all implying that he should be like that are obviously losers with no sense of competitive spirit. I’ve played sports my whole life and I never went into a game expecting to lose. And guess what, sometimes we were able to beat a better team

    Losers.

    ————-

He probably wouldn’t talk to the media, big man that he is.

  46. The demise of the Seahawks is greatly exaggerated and based on hate. Pretty comical. One guy is speaking for the 50 million fans of the NFL, stating that they ALL hate us. Did you poll every fan to make sure that statement is true? I’m so sorry that hate is overshadowing your judgement.
Haters gonna hate…it must be tough for you to have hate consuming you so much. Try yoga or come to WA or CO and get high. Maybe you can chill out.

  47. Hey Niner fans , I know you’re trolling ; Giants up 4-0 in the 4th ..

Something to give you hope when all else is lost …

  48. All the “we” garbage from seattle fans is funny. How sad your life must be up there that you need to think you are in the lockeroom popping peds with your heroes.
That being said the only thing Washington has in its favor is the cheaters have to travel along way to play.

  49. The funny thing is– Pete Carroll wanted to make Trent Williams his first draft pick as Seahawks coach. But Washington took him at #4 overall, so Pete went with Russell Okung at #6.

  50. It remains to be seen if the game against the Giants was an aberration, or if Cousins will continue to crack like a piece of old bamboo when pressured.

We may well find out on Monday. If he throws up prayers like he did against the NYG’S last week, I suspect the outcome will be the same, or worse.

That doesn’t make me a total Seattle homer (which I am, by the way; been on the bandwagon since ’76) just a moderately knowledgable observer of the game.

As for Trent’s opinion of Washington’s chances, it’s possible, I suppose. On any given Sunday, etc. But I doubt it.

    Go Hawks.

  51. I love the Seahawks and all the fans that support them. I’ve been through a lot supporting that team, but it sure is fun right now. I’m sorry so many of you hate us so but I really don’t care. I was at the Mariners games on Saturday and Sunday this past weekend. Lot’s great people there, a full stadium both days. Plenty of both M’s and Hawks jerseys and hats at the games. People that hate us obviously have never been here. Great people, great fans, and lots of fun going on here in the Great Pacific Northwest right now. Not to mention how much people are enjoying the Sounders as we’ll. And Cougars and Huskies too.

  52. Big Seahawks fan here, however what is he supposed to say?? “We have no chance on winning this game, not sure why we should even show up”? With that being said, i will be at the game Monday Night so Trent better not be right!

  53. The Seahawks are not the same team outside Seattle as they are at home. Everyone knows that.

The problem is that the Skins ARE the same team no matter where they play. Everyone knows that, too.

  54. Any pro sportsperson should be playing to win, and be determined to do so. We all benefit from fierce competition, and the Seahawks, though my team, are not unbeatable, and especially in away games. Washington has been beat up on many levels this season, and may come out dukes up and try to turn things around. As my sweetie is a Redskin fan, I hope we will all see a good battle, with the better team clearly the winner. Go Hawks!

  55. So far, two teams that lost to Seattle beat themselves by not trying: the packers and the broncos. Since the skins have nothing to lose, they should be playing loosey goosey. That should give them a good shot of winning against the depleted Sea Squawks roster. Lots of free agent departures, and on top of that, injuries to people who are supposed to take over for the departed free agents. That means Seattle is trying to win with street free agents, or smoke and mirrors.

  56. I knew that game would be the high-point of the SD-homers’ season. But when you can’t do anything in the post-season, it’s the little things like that that will keep you going.

Trent Williams is whistling past the graveyard (and crapping his pants while he does).

  57. To the crowing Chargers fans:

One game does not make a season. Enjoy the win. If you can finally win a few meaningful postseason games for the first time in the history of your franchise, maybe we’ll see you in the Superbowl.

And we both know how that’ll turn out.

  58. The unfortunate fact is that yes, the Redskins will beat Seattle; then lose to Tennessee; and then get blown out by the Rams. Because that’s what Redskins football is all about– showing flashes of incredible talent, getting their fans all hyped up, and then ripping the rug right out from under their feet as they choke the rest of the season away.
Crabcakes and soul-crushing football– that’s what Maryland does!

  59. “Nobody plays perfect every Sunday.” On any given Sunday… Right Trent? Only we are playing on Monday. Oops…

  60. Here’s something Interesting I found on ESPN dated 10/1/14

Statistics can be misleading, which proves to be the case when looking at a few key stats this week for the Seattle Seahawks’ road game on Monday night against the Washington Redskins.

For example, total yards and scoring don’t always go hand in hand. The Seahawks are 15th in the NFL in total yards of offense, averaging 356.7 per game, so right in the middle of the pack. However, they are fifth in scoring at 27.5 points per game.

The opposite is true for Washington. The Redskins are fourth in the league in total yards at 415.3 per game, but only 15th in scoring at 23.8 points per game.

On defense, Washington has allowed 324.3 yards per game, good enough for eighth-best in the NFL. But the Redskins have given up 27.3 points per game, 26th in the league.

Turnovers are a big factor there. Washington has a minus-5 turnover ratio, 29th in the NFL. Seattle is even in the turnover ratio after three games.

Penalties also have been a big problem for the Redskins this season — they average 10 penalties for 97 yards per game.
