The best rookies in the NFL in September will get a chance to face each other the first game of October.

Bears cornerback Kyle Fuller was named the league’s defensive rookie of the month Thursday.

Sunday, he gets to try to stop Panthers wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin, the offensive rookie of the month.

Fuller has three interceptions and two forced fumbles, stepping into an immediate void in the Bears defense upon the injury to veteran Charles Tillman.

The first-rounder had two of his picks in the comeback win against the 49ers in Week Two, showing he has a flair for the bright lights of prime time as well.

  1. Well deserved. This kid has major talent, a great attitude, and is being mentored by arguably the best CB to ever wear a Bears uni.

If they can put a decent front 7 in front of him so he’s not covering guys for 6 and 7 seconds at a time — and a competent DC in the mix — the sky is the limit.

  2. Congratulations to Kyle Fuller and Phil Emery.
Overall, Emery has done an excellent job rebuilding the bears.
Unlike Angelo, he has now has been 2 for 3 on #1 picks. Last year was Kyle Long. Shea is, so far, a bust.

  3. Kid is a stud. This was an exceptionally deep CB class with Fuller, Verrett, Dennard and Gilbert.

I think Fuller and Verrett will be the Pro-Bowlers of the group.

  4. Uhh…Aaron Rodgers with time looking for Jordy Nelson, good luck. And Rodgers was even hotter than usual.

  5. My Mom could have picked apart the Bears secondary last week, for all the time the d-line was providing.

    Make a read…crochet a quilt…bake a pie…look off a safety…pick your open WR…touchdown.

    Rinse, repeat.

It doesn’t help that Rodgers is playing like he made a deal with the devil, the Bears are missing starting Pro Bowlers at all 3 levels of defense, and the refs love them some Cheese Bay.

  6. This kid was a Godsend of a pick up. He still needs to hone a few things and get that ever priceless “experience” under his belt which you can see by the Packers game is still needed but wow…what are the chances of someone of Tillman’s caliber dropping out and having someone like Fuller step up and step in. He just seems extremely sharp, alert, focused and aware and just as important…he is a genuine down to earth character that keeps it professional, sportsmanship-like, and doesn’t need to smack talk to convince himself of anything. Great example. Hmmm…very much like a Walter Payton Award winner we already know.

  7. this guy Kyle Fuller deserves this honor. congrats and hope you continue to play your best football.
    cheers!
    from a charger fan.

  8. Unless Geno Smith is on his upcoming schedule, this is likely the last award for this season. Rodgers properly welcomed him to the NFL as he was torched early and often.
