Jerry Jones not worrying about Johnny Manziel now

Oh, the Cowboys are 5-1, and it’s glory hole all the way around for the Cowboys now.

Things are going so well the hottest debate of the entire offseason has been shelved for a moment.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said beating the Seahawks was “Almost as good as the Herschel Walker trade,” and better than the move he didn’t make this offseason.

Asked if he had any regrets about passing on Cleveland backup quarterback Johnny Manziel now, Jones admitted to orders from above.

“Well, I don’t know how that’s relevant,” Jones said, via Todd Archer of ESPNDallas.com. “I’m really not so sure I’m ready to admit a mis-thought. It is not relevant, and I really have had some very stern, succinct instructions not to mention Johnny anymore from people who count, let me put it like that.”

The implied gag order from the league office is interesting, but Jones is benefiting from not listening to his impulses this time.

All those boring old offensive linemen his team kept drafting are paving the way for the league’s leading rusher, and allowing a quarterback coming off back surgery to survive and thrive.

So this time, he gets the last laugh, at least for now.

  1. Good old PFT… Instead of accolades, we get this kinda crap.

Told you yesterday Florio wouldn’t pay them any respect.

  2. We’ll see if he’s still laughing in December when the ball’s in Romo’s hands…..history emphatically says he won’t be.

  3. Sounds like you’re saying Jerry finally gets the last laugh by doing as he’s told by others, and just restraining his own will.

    Some laugh.

  4. So far Dallas has been relatively healthy. Do they have the depth to compensate for the inevitable injuries?
    .

  5. It’s funny, even when the Cowboys win you write a snarky piece about them. Where did PFT rank the Cowboys in the pre-season? Enough of the Manziel stories, you’re acting like a child (deflect, deflect).

  6. umm, do you understand what the second part of that first sentence could mean if taken out of context.?

  7. Hey dualprime, wanna put money where you mouth is? You believe Dallas will only win 3 more game? I’ll take that money from ya! Must be a redskinette!

  8. This is probably the most unprofessional thing I’ve ever read on a mainstream sports site

I’m sorry the Cowboys are doing well Mike and Darin

  9. He does the same thing with the Niners, after they “upset” Philly, he kept digging up old RUMORS about Harbaugh. Since the NYG have sucked since 2012 he jumped on the Seahack bandwagon. Coincidentally so have all of their ‘fans’.

  10. Not saying that anybody should crown them or they’ll win it all, but based on the way their playing NOW, they most certainly could. A sort of new No Name Defense, playing better then they should on paper. Still a long way to go, but give them their due now, not many people (even myself) had them at 5-1 after 6 games.

    ********

Like Alex Baldwin said in the award winning Glengarry Glenn Ross:

    RESPECT is for closers!

Newsflash bandwagoners….they’ve not WON anything yet…there are no awards for a 5-1 team….see last year’s KC Chiefs, 9-0 start, and Denver Broncos 13-3 SB meltdown….

take a chill pill and stop demanding “respect” for a team whose not one one playoff game in 20 years.

  12. I’m SO tired of this bad reporting. The glory hole joke got old a long time ago. I’ve never seen such unprofessional “journalism” either. If you don’t like the cowboys, fine. But at least be a professional and write some real news for a change.

  13. He won’t receive any kudos, but Jerry has done a remarkable job as GM in addressing the team issues to turn things around. The success of the running game is a product of smart drafting of O-linemen and the development of Murray.
So called experts were predicting disaster for Dallas this season and they are all wrong. Beating Seattle in Seattle was a great win.

    Go back to hatin’ dude…

Relatively healthy? Except missing their best defensive player in Sean Lee, and another LB who was really living up to his 2nd round selection in Bruce Carter, and their other top LB, Durant has been in and out all season. Their starting CB, Claiborne is also out for the season.

Their saving grace on defense this Rolando McClain. One of the best trades they’ve made in years. They got him for basically nothing and he’s made huge players. But he also has not been healthy all season either.

Given the lack of relative health on defense, it’s amazing what they’ve been able to do. Holding Seattle to 200 yards of total offense was pretty damn impressive

  16. skawh, you’re pretty worked up over the Cowboys being 5-1, are you a teenager or just a sore loser.

In case you’ve been on restriction, everyone has been bashing the Cowboys lately, most all saying they were a mess of a team. So now it’s just hard for the little boys and girls to understand how they could have been wrong. Ok, so let mommy make you a sandwich and go back to sleep!!

  17. Self made billionaire, owns three Super Bowl rings, owns second most expensive franchise in the WORLD…yeah, he doesn’t know what he’s doing.

  18. Best way to keep Manziel out of Dallas is to get Jimmy Johnson to say he’d trade for him. Conversely, if Jimmy would talk smack on Johnny, then JJ would trade for him that same day.

Cowboys beat the eagles in the playoffs a couple years ago….where have you been?

  20. Jerry Jones hasn’t met a person in the media that he won’t talk to. Its interesting that his idea of success is a 5-1 football team a third of the way into the season. Those Cowboy Championship teams that Jimmy Johnson built don’t seem to matter to him.

  21. They may blow it before season end, but for now they beat the Seahawks on the road and gave Pete Carroll that dear in the headlights look….. So give credit where it’s due

  22. I’m glad the Cowboys are winning, but 5-1 does not the playoffs make. Keep focused. Our first division game is coming up next and over confidence could be a killer.
As for Jones getting all this admiration for drafting the ‘boring’ OL. It’s good that he did, no doubt, but us fans have been screaming for him to do that for years. It took a long time, but it’s here now. Maybe time for DL next year though. A better pass rush is needed for sure.
