Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell was scheduled to have a preliminary hearing into the marijuana and DUI charges he faces as a result of his August 20 arrest near Pittsburgh, but his lawyer said that it won’t be necessary.
Attorney Robert Del Greco told the Associated Press that his client will waive the hearing, which means that they won’t be arguing that the police lacks the evidence needed to move forward with the case. Bell’s case will progress to the stage where he can plead to the charges or stand trial.
Bell and fellow Steelers running back LeGarrette Blount were arrested after a traffic stop when police smelled marijuana in the car and found about 20 grams of pot in the car. According to police, Bell and Blount admitted to smoking pot although Bell said he didn’t know he could get a DUI for driving while high. He would face a two-game league suspension if found guilty of the DUI charge.
Blount’s preliminary hearing on the charges has been postponed until December.
