The Saints’ go-to target might not miss any time at all.
New Orleans released tight end Tom Crabtree on Saturday, according to the NFL’s transactions. This leaves the Saints with three tight ends, including standout Jimmy Graham, who is questionable with a shoulder injury. Considering the Saints have had three tight ends active in all five games this season, the release of Crabtree would seem to augur well for Graham’s availability for Sunday’s game at Detroit.
One of the game’s top tight ends, Graham leads the Saints in catches (34), yards (376), touchdowns (three) and targets (47).
The Saints signed Crabtree last Tuesday. He has seen regular season action with Tampa Bay (2013) and Green Bay (2010-2012).
To replace Crabtree, the Saints promoted rookie inside linebacker Todd Davis from the practice squad. His addition gives the Saints four healthy inside linebackers. A fifth inside linebacker, Ramon Humber, has been ruled out with an ankle injury.
