Week Seven power rankings

1. Dallas Cowboys (No. 2 last week; 6-1):  “Glory days, well they’ll pass you by.”  Maybe sooner than later.  But not yet.

2. Denver Broncos (No. 3; 5-1):  The Broncos are proving that they can play with the best the NFC West has to offer during the regular season, which bodes well for their ability to face the best the NFC has to offer come February.

3. Arizona Cardinals (No. 4; 5-1):  The next five games (Eagles, Cowboys, Rams, Lions, Seahawks) will tell us plenty about whether the Cardinals are viable Super Bowl contenders.

4. Philadelphia Eagles (No. 5; 5-1):  Philly returns to Arizona for perhaps the biggest game there since the Cardinals beat the Eagles in the 2008 NFC title game.

5. San Diego Chargers (No. 1; 5-2):  Well, at least Peyton Manning won’t set the passing touchdown record against them.

6. Green Bay Packers (No. 7; 5-2):  Either defenses still aren’t taking Jordy Nelson seriously, or they are and it doesn’t matter.

7. Indianapolis Colts (No. 8; 5-2):  Nineteen years after they nearly secured a Super Bowl berth in Pittsburgh, the Colts return with a chance to prove that they’re legitimate Super bowl contenders.

8. Baltimore Ravens (No. 10; 5-2):  It’ll be four more years until the next Flacco vs. Ryan debate.  Hopefully.

9. New England Patriots (No. 12; 5-2):  As Jason Taylor noted on last night’s PFT on NBCSN, Tom Brady apparently honed his flopping skills while attending World Cup matches in Brazil.  (Or maybe while playing Madden.)

10. Detroit Lions (No. 14; 5-2):  On that long touchdown play, Golden Tate was running like Percy Harvin was chasing him.

11. Seattle Seahawks (No. 6; 3-3):  In the same week the Vikings were faced with the 25th anniversary of the Herschel Walker trade, the Seahawks admitted that they were on the wrong end of its modern-day equivalent.

12. Cincinnati Bengals (No. 9; 3-2-1):  With three home games in 11 days, plenty of people won’t be witnessing whether the Bengals can turn things around.

13. San Francisco 49ers (No. 11; 4-3):  Good news, Colin Kaepernick outplayed Denver’s quarterback.  Bad news, the one he outplayed was Brock Osweiler.

14. Buffalo Bills (No. 16; 4-3):  The Bills will face Percy Harvin at the worst possible time — when he’s on his best behavior and without any idea how he’ll be used.

15. Carolina Panthers (No. 13; 3-3-1):  They’re up, they’re down, and somehow they’re still in first place in the NFC South.

16. Kansas City Chiefs (No. 20; 3-3):  In 16 games after the bye week, Andy Reid has broken down the wall 14 times.

17. Cleveland Browns (No. 15; 3-3):  The Browns hobble with one less appendage toward Trap Game No. 2.

18. Pittsburgh Steelers (No. 19; 4-3):  There’s nothing like three straight home games to commence the process of turning around a struggling Steelers team.

19. Miami Dolphins (No. 23; 3-3):  Here’s what really unacceptable — The Bears made Ryan Tannehill look like a combination of Dan Marino and Larry Csonka.

20. New Orleans Saints (No. 17; 2-4):  How do “decoy” snaps get characterized for the purposes of the franchise tag?

21. Chicago Bears (No. 18; 3-4):  Apparently, Brandon Marshall going berserk in the locker room after a home loss to the Dolphins isn’t unacceptable to the head coach.

22. Houston Texans (No. 21; 3-4):  Can Jadeveon Clowney play quarterback?

23. New York Giants (No. 22; 3-4):  Two straight losses, three straight wins, two straight losses . . . three straight wins?  With the Colts, Seahawks, and 49ers up next, bet the under.

24. St. Louis Rams (No. 28; 2-4):  All those empty seats at the Edward Jones Dome will have a great story to tell their grandkids about the day the Rams beat the defending champs.

25. Atlanta Falcons (No. 24; 2-5):  Maybe Matt Ryan won’t have to use the silent count for their “home” game in London.

26. New York Jets (No. 25; 1-6):  Percy Harvin wasn’t traded.  He was exiled.

27. Washington (No. 30; 2-5):  Maybe they can get a first-round pick for Colt McCoy.

28. Tennessee Titans (No. 26; 2-5):  Charlie Whitehurst’s passer rating is in the 90s.  Which finally has convinced me of the worthlessness of that statistic.

29. Minnesota Vikings (No. 27; 2-5):  Isn’t it better to just get blown out than to lose a winnable game late?

30. Jacksonville Jaguars (No. 31; 1-6):  Could this be the best 1-6 team in NFL history?

31. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (No. 29; 1-5):  If the Bucs can win a couple of games, they could still become contenders in a watered-down NFC South.

32.  Oakland Raiders (No. 32; 0-6):  Raiders fans no longer need to check the newspaper to see the team’s won-loss record.  Just ask Darnell Dockett.

  1. This is a top-10 team, which is funny because we won’t peak for another two or three months. Your team is peaking now. Sad! We told you. We tried to explain that this was the year of The March and it didn’t sink in. To the Steelers fans that gave up on a 3-3 team, go jump on the Cowboys’ bandwagon while it’s still October. You are not Steelers; you are an embarrassment.

Gentlemen, things are about to get exciting. It’s nearly November. The frauds are about to reveal themselves. This is where good teams (such as the Steelers) gain momentum for the playoff race. Truth is, we just want the wildcard. We’ve always done things the hard way and it will be a poetic exit, hoisting #7 after the long March. 10-6 and we March through the competition. We’re ready.

  2. That’s a lot of love for the Cowboys, Packers, and Chargers. I think Denver is probably the #1 right now the way they are rushing the passer combined with their offense. Dallas has earned a close #2.

Chargers are #5 despite losing at home this week to your #16? C’mon now…. I know they were a trendy super bowl pick two weeks ago before barely beating the Raiders but sheesh time to reassess.

  3. 5. San Diego Chargers (No. 1; 5-2): Well, at least Peyton Manning won’t set the passing touchdown record against them.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Although technically he will if he throws any TD passes in that game. He owns the record and every TD pass extends it.

  4. Yes, thank goodness Peyton will not set the record against the Bolts. Get that out of his system so that he can play ok…if that’s even possible.

  5. These rankings are outrageous. Cowboys number one really? They are a flash in the pan, besides the last time I checked Romo is still their QB. Cowboys will come crashing back down to earth soon.
The Hawks are the most talented team in the league. They should be top 3 easily.

Other teams fans envy our teams players. Other teams players envy our teams fans. #choochoohawksdynastytrain
    #12thmanisheretostay #dynastybeforeyoureyes #kissthering

  6. Cowboys fans beat the 1 team the Broncos beat by 7 but the Broncos slaughter the 1 team the Cowboys have lost to by 25 and they’re still behind them? Okay…..

  7. 5. San Diego Chargers (No. 1; 5-2): Well, at least Peyton Manning won’t set the passing touchdown record against them.

Um, yes he will. Every time he scores another touchdown he’s setting a new record. C’mon man!

(and I’m not even a Broncos or Manning fan).

  8. Being a huge Cowboys fan its good to see them up that high…but I still don’t think they are #1…not quite yet…I hope this holds up and we can make some noise in the playoffs

  9. In the same week the Vikings were faced with the 25th anniversary of the Herschel Walker trade, the Seahawks admitted that they were on the wrong end of its modern-day equivalent.
    ______

I hadn’t thought of it that way but that’s probably about right. The Carson Palmer trade to the Raiders is close, but at least Palmer wasn’t a locker room cancer. I wonder if we’ll still be talking about this trade 25 year from now?

  10. Really….these ranking are a joke. Bears are way too high. That dumpster fire should be next to Oakland. Pack gets destroyed by Lions yet sit higher with the same record.

Minnesota way too low. SKOL to victory!!!!

  11. I have to wonder how the Packers are at #6 and the Lions are at #10? When the Lions defeated the packers fairly easy a few weeks ago.

Not really arguing that the Lions belong higher than 10…..but that the Pack belongs lower.

And if you don’t believe that, wait until the end of the season. The Lions will finally win in GB this year for the first time since the Magic-man was the QB.

  12. We have to give JJ some credit as he spent 3 1st rd picks on oline and that is where we are winning games this season.

    HOW BOUT THOSE COWBOYS!!!!!

  13. If you look at the standings right now…. Dallas has yet to beat a team with a winning record. Teams they beat are the 2-5 Titans, 2-4 Rams, 2-4 Saints, 3-4 Texans, 3-3 Seahawks, and 3-4 Giants. I’m not saying their a bad team at all, but a number 1 team needs to have at least 1 win against a team with a winning record. Only team they played with a winning record beat them by double digits in the 49ers.

49ers won’t make the playoffs. Az will take the division and eagles/lions will take the wild cards. Sorry to tell you but…#AZhasitbetterthanyou
    —————————————————————————————
Don’t be so quick with that. Cards are showing they are a team to be reckoned with for sure. They have been pretty amazing, but they still have one game AT sf and two against the seahawks. Long way from winning the division!

  15. Ryan Tannehill look like a combination of Dan Marino and Larry Csonka… get use to it he’s only going to get better in this new offence as the year goes by.

  16. Using the excuse of “they haven’t beat anyone with a winning record” is irrelevant. It has been shown time and time again that any team can beat any other team on any given sunday. A win is a win. Only jealous haters use hollow excuses to justify putting down a good team. Must be 49er fans.

  17. As a boys fan I think we’re #2!!

If we were to play the broncos they would pull are secondary apart through the air

  18. @nflfollower

It’s not SD at #5 that is incorrect, it’s the chiefs ranking at #16. Besides a fluke week 1 loss to the titans, they have beaten Miami, New England, and San Diego while losing to the Broncos (in Denver by only 7 pts) and to the 49ers (in SF by only 5 pts). The chiefs are better than their .500 record would indicate..

  19. Solid ranking for the Hawks, I figured they’d be in the +/-12 range. They’re definitely at a crossroads and only time will tell if they’re able to turn it around. Offense showed it still has “it” in the 2nd half vs Rams, but if the Cards are legit (that’s a big IF) it’s looking like they’ll have to bust serious tail to contend for a Wild Card spot.

  20. I’m still not buying into the Cowboys, theres plenty of time left for they’re annual meltdown.

  21. “If you look at the standings right now…. Dallas has yet to beat a team with a winning record. Teams they beat are the 2-5 Titans, 2-4 Rams, 2-4 Saints, 3-4 Texans, 3-3 Seahawks, and 3-4 Giants….”

So what? The Chargers beat up teams such as the Jets, Bills, Raiders, and Jaguars. Four of the five Colts’ wins were against the Texans, Bengals, Titans, and Jaguars. Are you honestly trying to say that unless a team beats only “good” teams in the league, they’re frauds?

Based on that iron clad logic, neither the Chargers nor the Colts should be top five teams in the league right now either.

Have Pack beat a team with winning record ??

    =================================

MIA and CAR would have winning records if they beat the Pack. Nice try, NEXT!

Defense playing well and Aaron Rodgers playing QB = Best team in the NFC.

Looking at their schedule I could see them winning out and the road to the SB coming through Title Town!!! Next Sunday night @ NO looks to be the toughest game.

  23. “Cowboys fans beat the 1 team the Broncos beat by 7 but the Broncos slaughter the 1 team the Cowboys have lost to by 25 and they’re still behind them? Okay…..”

Cowboys dominated Seattle in Seattle. How’d Denver do up there?

  24. That the Dolphins took the Packers literally down to the wire two weeks ago should have been a good indication they are starting to put things together. That defense is legit.

  25. Cowboy’s @#1? They beat the Giants without Victor Cruz and only by 10 points when just last week philly blanked the Giants then they beat a seahawk team that is having some injury problems and was beaten by the rams the very next week. They shouldn’t even be top 5
    1) denver
    2) indy
    3) Arizona
    4)philadelphia
    5)san Diego

  26. Preseason the Vikings were 27th…. and then they started playing the games. Congrats! There is always next year! Wait until Teddy gets some experience, a new coaching staff, a new stadium, and the sunny temps of LA…he will be Joan Collins.

  27. The Packers have an amazing QB. The rest of their “good players” are just average or poor.

Once Packers get trucked by an angry Saints team and the Lions survive another CJ-less week with great team defense, PFT will be forced to drop GB and raise the Lions up.

  28. Gentlemen, we march for the sake of exercise. It is just for fun these days. For we churn out Lombardis like it’s butter; thus, we are cows. We would offer you milk, but it is clear you are lactose intolerant. You are all chickens for you lay eggs in big games. We paddle through the waters of your tears, and we build boats. Cowboys dominated Seattle in Seattle. How’d Denver do up there?”

Last time I checked losing in overtime at the toughest place to play in the NFL is no disgrace. I wouldn’t call 7 points “domination” either. Try not to fall behind the 49ers by double digits by halftime next time you play them please?

  30. Combined record of teams the Cowboys have beaten: 15-23 (0.395 win pct). Combined record of teams the Broncos have beaten: 18-15 (0.545 win pct). Broncos have beaten two teams that have won at least 5 games. Cowboys lost to the only team they played against who currently has a winning record.

  31. Cowgirls at the top. They can have the top power rankings while in January they’ll be sitting at home with the Ravens and Bungles while the rest of the real teams play for a superbowl title. Never count out Big Ben.

  32. As a fairly realistic Cowboys fan I also think the Cowboys should not be ranked higher than Denver.

If they were to play tomorrow, it would come down to DeMarco’s ability to keep Manning off the field, versus 5head’s ability to shred that secondary.

I give the edge to the crooked-neck’d substandard-pizza dealer.

  33. As a lifelong Cowboys fan, them being at no. 1 means as much as it did to me when they were ranked 27th at the beginning. It’s silly and stupid. Fodder for the trolls. BUT–I like our chances against anyone. And for that Steeler fan who says we are garbage–we would beat you down in a heartbeat. The Steelers have grit, and have found ways to win, but they have no D up front and no weapons that scare anyone on offense besides Big Ben. Please. And for the trolls crying about the win loss records, we all now that many of these 3-3, 2-5 teams will be in the fight at the end, and many more 4-2 teams will not. Troll away ladies. My team is a damn good one.

  34. I would also remind you all that the same logic you are applying in your arguments was fed to you by the same clowns who gave Dallas Ds and Fs in our last 4 drafts–you know, the ones where we drafted Tyron Smith, Travis Frederick, Terence Williams, Zach Martin, Gavin Escobar,Bruce Carter? The same clowns who taught you to laugh and cat-call when we traded for Rolando McClain. Learn to watch game tape (impossible for most of you) and tell me what you see…..

  35. 30. Jacksonville Jaguars (No. 31; 1-6): Could this be the best 1-6 team in NFL history?
    ______________________

I assume no since they’re ranked four spots behind the 1-6 Jets.

  36. So trading a 1st 3rd and 7th for Harvin
    =
    3 1st, 3 2nds, 3rd, 6th and 5 players for Walker

The two trades arent even close to one another, a closer approximation would be RG3 and the Redskins.

  37. @Pittsburgh Steelers (@Steelers)
Just wondering, you going to move to LA with your team?

  38. As a Dallas fan, I don’t agree with them being ranked number 1. I believe that Denver should be ahead of them, and dare I say until they play Philly and hopefully win, I think a 3-5 ranking is more practical.

  39. The packers defense allowed the lions offense a whole 3 points more than the lions defense gave up to he Packers.

Anyone who thinks the Packers will lose to the lions at Lambeau is either wearing Honolulu blue or lives in a basement in Minnesota.

The Packers took three games to gel and are playing better on both sides of the ball.

If you can’t see that, you’re blind.

Also, the lions defense is allowing how many points per game?

    Thanks.

  40. No qualms with the rankings, but just some food for thought:

Dallas is 0-1 against teams with a winning record (San Francisco).

Denver is 3-0 against teams with a winning record (San Francisco, Arizona, Indianapolis).

  41. I’m not sure the Cowboys should be ahead of Denver, but they are absolutely at top 5 team right now. 6 wins in a row, how can they not be? As for not having wins against teams with a winning record, I’m pretty sure Seattle was 3-1 when the Cowboys beat them. If Seattle had beaten Dallas, they would be 4-2, if the Giants had done it, they’d be 4-3. Part of the reason they don’t have winning records, is because the Cowboys beat them. You can’t discount that. Besides, you can only play the teams on your schedule.

The Cowboys are stacking wins right now. With home games against washington and Arizona, and then a London game with Jacksonville coming up, don’t be surprised if they’re 9-1 or 8-2 heading into their bye week. Their real test will come over the last 6 weeks of the season, but they may have a playoff berth all but wrapped up by then.

  42. OK the Jets got creamed by SD, fought hard against Denver, lost by a touchdown plus conversion to the Bears, Lions and Packers……

Then darn near take the Pats in NE…..

And the Pats are a top 10 team?

Not arguing that the Jets should be ranked higher, just saying the Pats aren’t a top 10 team. Not even by default.

  43. Colts are ranked too low…but that’s fine, we’d rather fly under the radar for a bit. We’ll be there in the end!

  44. As a Cowboy fan, I think they are a little too high. I’d put at least Denver above them. Teams with high scoring offenses will give them trouble. I like Romo, and I think he could win a shoot out, but he could also lose a shoot out. Just like the Denver game last year.

As a side note, it’s almost a catch-22. I like they are winning but the bandwagon comments are coming. This morning on NFL radio I heard Seahawks fan complain about the Cowboy bandwagon fans. Let that one sink in for a minute. A Seahawk fan! I almost crashed my truck.

    *********************************************
I’m with other people on this winning record crap, any given Sunday any team can beat any team but since u want to go there I’ll break this down to perspective for u. any team that has more wins than losses has a winning record. whether it be 1-0 or 6-1. Three teams we played this year had a winning record. Titans 1-0, Houston 3-1, Seattle 3-1 so what happens to their records after we play them is on those teams not Dallas. As for the 49ers their record was the same as ours 0-0 they have a winning record as of now but it really doesn’t matter at this point of the season so let’s move on. Good day sir.

  46. Steeler fans seem to think, the fan that makes the most outrageous comments and predictions , wins. It doesn’t work that way.

  47. Romo has had ample 4th qtr. chances to choke away games as he usually does but he’s held it together very well since the SF game. I won’t be a believer until he proves he can perform in the post season.

  48. i love that you hate the patriots. for the record, i actually think you have them in the right place for once. they should maybe even be lower than 9

  49. I think it is hysterical all of the posters that have their panties in a twister about where PFT ranks their teams. Do you also whine to Peter King about his fine fifteen every week?

  50. jnks10 says:

Ummm, if all those teams had beat Dallas, four would not have a losing record.

  51. 21. Chicago Bears (No. 18; 3-4): Apparently, Brandon Marshall going berserk in the locker room after a home loss to the Dolphins isn’t unacceptable to the head coach.

They have to treat Marshall with kid gloves. If this were any other team, Marshall would have been sent packing by now.

  52. @tokyosandblaster:

First of all, the Lions are second in the NFL at defensive PPG, at 15. Just wait until Megatron is back and all of their weapons are healthy again. Tons of offensive injuries so far. Wait until that offense gels.

They can definitely win at Lambeau this year and have a shot at the division. Tough 2nd half schedule though.

The Broncos lost to Seattle by 7. Cowboys beat Seattle by 7 (not a dominating score). Broncos beat up on the SF 49ers winning by 25 (dominating), the team the Cowboys lost to. Get it?

  54. “Also, the lions defense is allowing how many points per game?”
    ______________________________________

I’m so glad that you asked. The Lions D is #2 in pts/game allowed at 15.0. 1st place is Baltimore at 14.9

Seriously, if you thought they give up a lot of points than you have not watched any football beyond Green Bay this year. They ARE one of the (if not the) top Defense in the league as we near the halfway point.

You’ll have to make some other negative item next time you want to bust on the Lions because the same old “defense is weak” arguments don’t quite work this year.

  55. All the crazy posts trying to justify where their favorite team should be.
Power rankings are a picture of one person’s thoughts of team strengths at one specific point in the season and have no bearing on where a team will end up.

Sorry, no style points for power rankings.

  56. There’s no way Dallas is #1. I’ll take the Broncos over them any day. And Green Bay is playing at the very least like a Top 3 team.

  57. WHAAH, WHAAH…my team beat that team by 10 points that your team beat by only 7 points BLAH BLAH BLAH… Stop kiddies and go outside a play, NOW!

  58. Indianapolis completely shuts down the #9 team 27-0, moves up one spot. Patriots barely beat the Jets, move up 3 spots. Ok.

  59. Just who have the Packers beat?

A Pathetic Jets team, which they should have lost.
A Bears team who had third string Defensive backs in.
A Vikings team with a Rookie QB and No AP.
A Dolphins team that blew it on the last play!
A Panthers team that just choked.

Really??? Packers are a one man show. Arron “Chip-on-his-shoulders” Rodgers. It’s time he gets over it. Without Rodger the team is a JOKE! You have “Roid Boy” Mathews, and Jordy Token” Nelson on the team.

  60. The Cowboys are frauds and will prove to be just that the second half of the year. They are playing way above their heads and have gotten every possible break to achieve a 6-1 record. If power rankings are based on record alone they are #1. If power rankings are based on reality they are a middle of the road team, with a middle of the road coach, and a middle of the road front office. They are always a a matchstick away from an implosion.

  61. wow. A lot of folks are unhappy the Patriots were moved into the Top 10.

I see it this way. The Pats beat a bitter rival desperate for a win to save its season (2-5 and 2 back would have been doable for the Jets after getting through the tough part of their sked and then getting to host the Patriots later in the season). While both teams had only 4 days rest, the Pats lost their defensive signal caller and top tackler in Jerod Mayo. And yet after giving up 218 yards rushing, forcing no turnovers, and holding the ball for a measly 19 minutes and change, THEY STILL WON. In fact they were the first team with those stats to do so according to Elias.

And they were given no bump up from 12 for beating a Bills team in Buffalo with both Spiller and Jackson healthy.

So time to eat crow. Let’s see where the Pats go after winning a close one against a very desperate Bears team next Sunday.

  62. Denver’s OT loss in Seattle (at the time a huge improvement over their 43-8 neutral field loss) loses much of its luster after Seattl’s home loss to the Boys and road loss to the Rams.

  63. If you look at the standings right now…. Dallas has yet to beat a team with a winning record. Teams they beat are the 2-5 Titans, 2-4 Rams, 2-4 Saints, 3-4 Texans, 3-3 Seahawks, and 3-4 Giants.
    ========================================

Like Denver LAST YEAR (with the exception of the Chiefs, though this did begin a 2-6 run for the Chiefs so …)

AND like the 2011 PACK when it started 13-0, finished 15-,only to lose 37-20 to the Giants in their first playoff game.

I always look at the record of the team at the time of the game. By this measure, the 2013 Broncos and 2011 Packers were the most overrated teams in history (along with the 1972 Dolphins).

  64. at the halfway point of the season, there are still a lot of unknowns. Seems like just about any team can beat any team – which is great.

This niner fan is HAPPY that we have a bye week. The 49ers have a tall order in getting passed the Cards and Seahawks, but with 3/4 division games at home, with bouts against the Raiders, Skin’s, Giants, Saints and Bolt’s at home – there’s a lot of season left in order to make a run. This bye week could not have come at a better time; and with the return of Willis, Bowman (hopefully), Aldon, Doresy, Iupati, and Davis; there’s still some hope left.

Hope these guys can find a way to avoid law enforecement during their time off.

  65. How will the football gods pull this one off? Week 17 is when the Cowboys always play for (and lose) the NFC East title. Maybe McCoy WILL be the difference for Washington.

  66. Lol on the Tate running like Harvin was chasing comment. – From a Lion’s fan. But Tate seriously has some jets, pun intended. He is, without a doubt, the best free agent signing for any team of this off-season bar none.

  67. It’s true that Lions are a good kicker away from being 7-0 and number 1 in the rankings right now even with an offense that seems to barely be moving sometimes. And, without Calvin Johnson and a good run game lately. Still, I watch a really good QB play (and remember, we have beaten Rodgers and Brees), and I can’t help wish Stafford could be that good.

  68. Love the Boys but Broncos should be #1: Here are my Power Rankings:

    1. Broncos
    2. Cowboys
    3. Colts
    4. Packers
    5. Arizona

I know Colts and Packers have 2 losses but they have been playing great football. Hard to beat Rodgers or Luck the way they have been playing.

  69. The week before the Chiefs destroyed the Patriots, the Patriots limped past the Raiders. The week before the Chiefs upset the Chargers (and none of you were smart enough to predict it) the Chargers limped past the Raiders.

Why can’t the Chiefs get more love from y’all? The lost on their last possession, and be less than a touchdown to the 49ers and Broncos. Both of those are top notch teams. Putting the Chiefs at 16 in how they approach rankings in college football; they totally overreact to a loss, lack the ability to engage in any complex thinking, and focus only on the “loss” aspect of it.

But, that sort of thinking is why you guys couldn’t see the “upset” of the Chargers coming.

  70. If the Cowboys play the seahawks 10 times they lose 9 of them. Even tho peyton looks like a dong with ears, they are #1 now. The packers are starting to roll and look very dangerous. The bears still suck and that about covers it.

  71. I just looked up the schedules for the Pack and the Lions to see if that is biased towards one team having to play tougher opponents the rest of the way, or not. Result: it’s dead even.

If you eliminate the common opponents on the two schedules from the math, you get this:

Packs have to play the Saints, Eagles, Bills
Lions have to play the Dolphins, Cardinals, Bears (twice).

When you add up the Won/Loss records of those “not identical” opponents, you get 11 wins v. 8 losses for both the Pack’s schedule and the Lion’s schedule. Interesting.

Plenty of things don’t go according to script in the NFL ….. but right now, that December 28th game in the snow up in Green Bay looks to be C-R-U-C-I-A-L.

I’m thinking the Lambeau crowd is going to be fully into that contest. Who knows, maybe that new kicker the Lions recruit out of Australia will do well in the snow. Should be fun !!

  72. If the Seahawks were coming to Dallas this week, they would be underdogs. Bank it! There is no addition by subtraction…only the ghastly “reaction” to a return man’s trickeration…

  73. Sorry, I just don’t buy Dallas at #1. They are FAR better than I anticipated, but they have a lot of holes. They also have a track record of Romo being Romo at critical moments. Until they prove otherwise, they can’t be considered #1. For me, Denver is far and away the most complete team. Good defense, great offense, great coaching and Peyton Manning at QB.

I also think the Cards are going to implode or at least take a step back. If I had to guess, I see the Colts, Patriots and Eagles all possibly making a real run. My Eagles scare me though…just don’t think they have the passing D or the consistency on offense to take it all. One can hope, I guess.

  74. Best team cowboys have beaten is 3-3. Broncos beat a 5-2, 5-1, 4-3, and a 3-3 team. Common opponent (san fran) proved very different challenge for the two while the seattle game for each team could have gone either way. Whats your angle florio? Are you just trying to be different? You certainly aren’t going off accomplishments. At least you took SD off the top, but you’re still crazy to think rodgers, brady, and even stafford, flacco couldnt take them.

  75. I like how everyone is trashing on Big D saying they haven’t beaten a team with a winning record. Umm coulda sworn seattle was 3-1 when Dallas played them. Texans had a winning record as well, so not sure you can call those games irrelevant at the time they were played. Hindsight, yes Seattle isn’t as good as everyone thought they would be, and it’s clear the Texans are a lost cause with no QB solution, but don’t think that Dallas is a flash in the pan. So long as they stay healthy, they are in great shape. The schedule plays out in our favor, not many multiple big games in a row, look at Arizona, and we are still sitting on a bye.

Also the “Romo is still Romo” is equally applicable to Peyton as well. Until Peyton can prove he won’t fold like a lawn chair during big games, don’t bet on Denver.

    1. As an Eagles fan, I’m not trashing Dallas—fun as that would be. I’m just saying I don’t think they are #1. The defense has been playing better, and the offense is really clicking. But Murray has proven durability issues, the D is still outplaying their talent (which likely won’t last), and Romo has shown time and time again he’s an epic choker.

    2. You’re comparing Romo to Peyton Manning? Bwahahahaha. Peyton not only has amazing numbers, he also has WON A SUPER BOWL. The last one was a team loss from top to bottom, not Manning folding. He actually set a record of 34 completions in that game. I’m not saying Romo can’t do it, but history says he’ll find a way to choke…whether by injury or by just Pulling a Romo.

Everyone is gonna hate on the cowboys, but we all know it is out of jealousy. You are what your record says you are.

Just wanted to highlight this so we can come back and repeat it when they’re 8-7 heading into week 17…

  78. It’s not a surprise that Florio has the 3-3 Seahawks coming off two straight losses, the last of them to a 2-4 Rams team that he has ranked very low, ahead of multiple teams with winning records. Why not just rank the Hawks no. 1 Mike ? We know they are no. 1 in your heart, plus you clearly aren’t even maintaining the illusion of objectivity so why not take it all the way ?
