Broncos early 3.5-point favorites at New England

With a victory next Sunday at home against Broncos, the Patriots (6-2) will secure the conference’s best record through nine weeks, not to mention a potentially valuable tiebreaker.

However, multiple Nevada sports books have made the Patriots 3.5-point underdogs to 6-1 Denver on Sunday, according to VegasInsider.com. (The William Hill-run sports books, though, have installed Denver as just a three-point favorite.)

According to the Spreadapedia line database, the Patriots have not been a home underdog of more than a field goal since November 18, 2001, when the Rams (-8.5) defeated New England 24-17.

The Patriots, of course, would have their revenge on St. Louis less than four months later in Super Bowl XXXVI.

  1. Even as bad as the Bears are, I don’t think the Pats are getting their due. You’re gonna bet against Brady at home with a healthy Gronk? Really?

  2. The Broncos fronts are more stable on both sides of the ball. The Patriots defense is especially vulnerable without Jerod Mayo and Chandler Jones.

The games in which the Patriots defense has played well, they were given a sizable lead by the offense.
    .

  3. So, when did Brady play defense? Historically, Pats have played great defense against Peyton and forced him to a couple of turnovers in every meeting. I am not sure if Pats’ D this year is that great. Brady will do his thing and damage the vaunted Denver D but Peyton will cause more damage than Brady. Denver wins by at least a TD.

  4. I just hope everyone appreciates a game like this, no matter the outcome. The Broncos benefit from the extra time to prepare and the Patriot benefit from being at home. Both teams come in hot despite the injuries to a number of Patriots’ starters. Given the tough upcoming schedule the Patriots need this win but there is a lot of pressure on the Broncos to win a big game. Both teams need to finish drives and score touchdowns.

  5. Cold windy November game in Foxborough? 43 degree high with a 30 degree low next week? Manning isn’t himself in those conditions.

  6. I think they thought so too last year when the Pats were decimated with injuries and had rookie receivers. Brady was playing with scraps while Peyton was well-stocked with really good players. We all know what happened. Brady orchestrated a miraculous comeback and beat the Broncos. Now the Pats defense are still hobbled with injuries but Gronk is back, they have Revis, and the receivers seem to be getting better. Pats has a better chance of beating the Broncos now than last year. I say Pats beat the Broncos because it’s almost a tradition that Brady beats Peyton.

  7. The good news for Denver is that NE won’t be getting their revenge (if they lose) in the Super Bowl, because Denver isn’t going to the Super Bowl.

    Go Patriots!

  8. Initial forecast is 50 degrees and windy. Windy conditions with Peyton Manning throwing ducks and a kicker that the team has no confidence = comfortable Pats victory. Vegas better turn that line pretty quick.

This is coming from a Bronco fan.

  9. It seems to me in the Manning-Brady duos, the home team always wins. Big game in terms of home field advantage tiebreakers (like the Cardinals against Philly last week, Dallas this up-coming week).

  10. You heard it here FIRST 3:30 am — Marshawn Lynch to the PATS!

Goodnight Broncos, Goodnight ESPN, Goodnight Florio, Goodnight Spygate fans, Goodnight Moon.

  11. Idk the Broncos signed some nice free agents this off season….weird that they don’t wear typical Bronco’s uni’s but black and white stripes are cool too. Should be easy win for Denver Ref…err…Broncos

  12. Ever notice how the cheaters get to play the best teams at home?
It’s like the NFL is going out of their way to help the cheaters get home field advantage in the playoffs

  13. Yeah, like last year’s Championship game where Manning threw for 400 yards.

Peyton always chokes against Brady, especially in Foxboro.

  14. It wouldn’t surprise me if the Pats win.

Say what you want about Belichick, but the man has a talent for getting his teams ready for games like this.

  15. That’s probably a fair spread if you look at it objectively. But I wouldn’t bet against the Pats at home the way they’ve been playing since that Kansas City debacle. Broncos will have a game on their hands, make no mistake.

  16. This should be the highest rated game of the season. With a close second Dallas eagles.

Two of theach best QB’s to ever play facing each other in their prime.

Life is good. Unless you’re a jets fan.

  17. I have no idea who wins this. Just like none of you do, although many will claim they did after it’s over.

  18. Since ’09 they’ve played twice in Denver and twice in New England. What are you people complaining about…

  19. Wow, if you’re gonna say that the pats are gonna win, at least come up with something better than the nonsense above. You pats fans sound like immature teens who know generally nothing about football. Not saying we don’t have knucklehead broncos fans either but come on, have you actually watched the games between these two teams or do you just look at the stats. Yes the pats beat us last year but let’s not ignore the fact that denver was up 24-0 in fox boro in a much colder climates. John fox forgot to remind them that they still had two quarters left to play, no excuse for any team to give up a 24 point lead. Let’s take home field out of play, the patriots still has to show up and play, no bye week here. I throw everything out the window when it comes to these 2 teams because you just know it’s gonna come down to the wire no matter how much talent one has over the other. I’m not gonna sit here and say the broncos are gonna come into NE and embarrass them like what niners and chargers fans did with us. I know that in order for us to win, we have to play a complete game and not underestimate Brady.

Still but hurt that the chargers lose to the better team? Maybe you should go re watch the week 17 matchup last year between the chiefs and chargers. It’s a shame the refs had to blow a huge call for the bolts to beat 3rd stringers, they wanted the hot team in the playoffs otherwise it would’ve been the steelers getting in. Have you watched yesterday’s games, a lot of tough calls and some fans feel like their teams ewe screwed. Just off the back, it sucks to be a falcons and ravens fan right about now. Prater missed the FG but there was a delay of game? Not bashing the refs but I’ve seen some delay of games that weren’t flagged in the past. How about smiths long TD in the last minute being called back for offensive PI, I guess they wanted the bengals to sweep the ravens. How about the packs and saints game, that was a flag fest. The broncos had 42 points taken off the board this season due to penalties, I could think of 3 occasions where manning was hit after the pass and no flags thrown. How many reviews that were overturn not in the broncos favor? A lot but idiots like you take one game and came up with the conclusion that the refs cost the chargers the win. You bolts fans are only mad because the broncos over came the tough calls and chargers couldn’t

  21. To all you broncos haters, if you feel that the refs are helping the broncos out, why are you still watching football? If this is your belief then there’s no reason to continue on watching nfl games when it’s rigged for one team to win it all.

  22. Wrong. In 2012, 2013 and 2014 it was Denver at New England.

  23. Since 2002, the NFL schedule has been done by formula, not by league favoritism. Why people don’t get this, I don’t know. Since the formula was in place, 5 gms have been in Foxboro, 4 in Denver. In PManning’ s career 6 in Foxboro, 4 in Denver. Playoff sites are earned by merit. Nice to see Bronco’s fans already starting with the excuses on Monday morning.

Both these teams are gonna win their div, even the team that loses, IMO. So, the gm is important for home field, should they meet in the playoffs, and I bet they will. Denver deserves to be favored, they’ve looked great this yr. I’m not much for predictions, but I sure feel better about the Pats chances than I did a few wks ago. Looking forward to it .

  24. People do understand that it’s the “formula” that has Denver playing AT New England for the 3rd consecutive regular season. People just don’t like that “formula” I guess.

    2009: @ Denver
    2011: @ Denver

    2013: @ NE

And this year theyre in NE again. I believe my original statement is correct.

  26. If you were being objective you would have included this week’s game instead of worrying about games played before Manning even went to the Broncos.

    ====

All the formula does is tell you which teams will play, but it says nothing about which team will be the home team. The NFL makes that decision, and the last three years straight they have “decided” on Foxboro.

    ————-

Not sure you understand the meaning of the word objective…ha.

Why does Manning matter in this argument at all? Leaving him out would be objective.

  29. All the formula does is tell you which teams will play, but it says nothing about which team will be the home team.
    ————-
You are mistaken. The last time the AFC East played the AFC West was 2011. Pats played @Oak, @Denver, home against the Chiefs and Chargers. This year, it’s the opposite venue in all 4 gms. It rotates. The other times they played was because both came in 1rst place in their divisions. Site is also determined by formula. Nothing is optional. I could tell you each team’s sched and venue for the next 10 yrs, except for 2 gms played against teams who came in the same place in their divisions.

  30. You idiots complaining about the Broncos playing in Foxboro obviously don’t know that the NFL schedule is predetermined and not a conspiracy theory. Assuming that both teams win their divisions New England will play in Denver next year. But just in case you forgot, Brady was “forced” to play in Indy in 07,08,09.
