Rams guard Rodger Saffold injures problematic shoulder

AP

If the Rams ever think about breaking ground on a new stadium, they might want to make sure it’s not built on top of an Indian burial ground.

Their hard-luck season of injuries keeps adding layers, with yet another offensive lineman hurt.

According to Adam Caplan of ESPN, right guard Rodger Saffold suffered a shoulder injury Sunday against the Chiefs. The injury is apparently to the same shoulder the Raiders had issues with when they failed him on his physical, scuttling a free agent deal and sending him back to the Rams.

Center Scott Wells is also getting his elbow looked at.

They lost left tackle Jake Long to another torn ACL, and will put him on IR along with quarterback Sam Bradford and defensive end Chris Long.

Both linemen are getting more tests done, so it’s too early to know if or how many games they’ll miss.

But the Rams clearly can’t get a break.

  1. Man… these last couple of weeks have just been brutal as far as linemen (O and D) going down. Not really sure what to make of it other than that the teams with great GMs and coaching who have been able to develop depth in the trenches are going to emerge, and the teams who haven’t are probably S.O.L.

  2. It seems like so many were ripping McKenzie and especially Davis when they voided that contract earlier this year. How many of you internet GM’s are going to issue an apology? Bottom line: you don’t give huge $’s to someone with medical issues….

  3. The Rams are just a pre-season team now with all the injuries. They are just going to be feasted on even worse from here on out. Should get yet another high draft pick out of it.

  4. The media and pundits were all over the Raiders on failing him on the physical…

They were awful quick to raise the “same old raiders” flag, when, in fact, it is not the the same old raiders.

Al is not the GM, and Al is not the owner. The cap is in order, and there are no scholarship players, and no speed merchant reaches in round 1.

With that said, in terms of changing perceptions, the Raiders need to win. Losing teams don’t get the benefit of the doubt, winners do.

  5. Almost every team has loads of injuries at this point in the season.

The players are reaping what they sow. They got much shortened off season activities and workouts. Great, they get a significantly higher injury rate in return.

Half of them will be out of the league 1-3 years sooner than they would be if they were able to go into the stadium most of the offseason and train/condition properly.

  6. The Raiders got ripped on for signing a guy with a known shoulder issue and then failing him for having a shoulder issue. It wasn’t just the fact that they pulled their offer, it’s that their management is clueless and has no class.

  7. Bottom Line: With all the high draft picks Fisher has had, this team doesn’t have much to show……

Bradford needs to go bye bye in the off season to save a ton of money because QB Austin Davis can handle it from here.

  8. I agree with Mr. Fumblenuts. Bradford does need to go. . . straight to the Bears in an even-up swap for Jay Cutler.

We’ll take your bum for our bum and we will each hope we got the better bum.

  9. What good is another high draft pick if our draft picks are wasted on laughable busts anyway? Let’s look at Les Snead’s first-round legacy of his Rams tenure: [2012] Michael Brockers, (possible bust); [2013] Tavon Austin (bust), Alec Ogletree (possible bust); [2014] Greg Robinson (bust already!).

It doesn’t matter who we draft, if they suck to begin with, and then they’re poorly coached from that point on. Throw the bums (Fisher, Snead) out.

  10. “If the Rams ever think about breaking ground on a new stadium, they might want to make sure it’s not built on top of an Indian burial ground.”

So, they definitely shouldn’t try to build a new stadium over on the East Side, then…

I’m pretty sure it was all McKenzie who wanted to sign him to that mega contract and Mark Davis pulled the plug on that ridiculous idea.
