Bucs trade Jonathan Casillas to Patriots

Mark Barron isn’t the only player traded away by the Buccaneers just before the NFL trade deadline.

Tampa Bay also traded linebacker Jonathan Casillas to New England, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

The 27-year-old Casillas has been a backup for most of his NFL career and has played in five games with the Bucs this year. There’s no immediate word on what the Patriots gave up to acquire Casillas, but it’s likely a late-round pick conditioned on Casillas reaching a certain level of playing time.

This is the third straight year that the Patriots have added a player to their defense at the trade deadline. Last year they acquired defensive tackle Isaac Sopoaga in a trade with the Eagles, and two years ago they acquired cornerback Aqib Talib in a trade with the Buccaneers.

  1. Interesting, the Pats were very thin at LB. What is going on with Alan Branch? He was in the Pats locker room last Thursday.

If all go thru, Belichick made 3 trades to strengthen the defense at the trade deadline. Belichick always looks to improve his roster week to week.

Ayers had a good game on Sunday including 5 tackles and a sack.

I don’t think Peyton is going to like the weather this Sunday as currently forecasted.

The Bills were thumping you at the half a few weeks back and would have beaten you had their OC not gone hyper conservative. Lets not go all high and mighty. The Pats are good, but they arent exactly the 07 model.

  3. When Casillas played for Saints he was one of the fastest guys on special teams. Seriously this dude is fast.
And If memory serves me correct, hes best blitzing out 4-3 olb.
Dude is definitely a Gregg Williams player

  4. Interesting plan Lovie has going – get rid of all the Schiano defenders and load up on late draft picks so that Kiper and Mayock are talking about you the entire 3rd day. Good luck with it, man.

  5. “With Mayo out, they could sure use Spikes.”

Nope. Spikes is a stupid penalty machine. He’s another Meriweather type headhunter who won’t learn.

Tough to be a Bills fan. Losing by 13-7 at the half is considered “thumping” the other team…

  7. When you can’t win a game against the vikings, its time for a fire sale.

At least the Bucs have won a Super Bowl.
Good luck on that building program.

The 07 model has shown up in a few games this year, and I think they’ll be back again before the season is over.

  9. Yup alllll you haters,,,you just can’t stand when BB keeps pulling rabbits out of the hat can you? It makes you feel so damn small and worthless. YEAR after year he takes people on the trash heap..goes 12-4 and either goes to the SB or threatens for it…for like 13 yrs now…
