Washington dumps Clifton Geathers

Geathers

As Washington prepares to head to Minnesota for Sunday’s game against the Vikings, one veteran player won’t be making the trip. Because he’s no longer a member of the team.

Washington has announced that defensive end Clifton Geathers has been released. Inactive the past two weeks after better players at his position got healthy, Geathers became expendable.

His roster spot has been filled by safety Phillip Thomas, who was promoted from the practice squad.

A sixth-round pick of the Browns in the 2010 draft, Geathers has bounced around the league. He has played for the Dolphins, Seahawks, Cowboys, and Colts, who traded him to the Eagles. He signed with Washington in March.
