Chiefs back into an easy TD, Jets add another chapter to lore

AP

For all the laughs we’ve had over the years for the Butt Fumble, the Jets were at least nearly competitive then.

Their latest masterpiece, the Butt Touchdown, may be an even better metaphor for what’s happening to them as their season swirls down the drain.

The Jets trailed 7-0 when a Chiefs pass at the goal line intended for Dwayne Bowe was batted away by Jets outside linebacker Calvin Pace. The problem was, it fell right into the lap of Chiefs tight end Anthony Fasano, who rolled untouched into the end zone for the most ridiculous touchdown of the day.

It just popped into my hands,” Fasano said, by Brendan Kuty of NJ.com. He laughed when asked if he had ever had such a catch, saying: “Never, nope and I’ll probably never get one again.”

The Jets didn’t see the same humor in what Pace referred to as a “lucky play.”

“I thought that was typical of how the season has gone for us,” coach Rex Ryan said.

“The ball hasn’t really been bouncing our way,” running back Chris Johnson said, in the sad truth/pun of the day. “The ball gets batted up and falls right in his lap.”

In a season of ridiculous moments, the Jets continue to manage to top themselves. It just makes you wonder what they have in store next.

  1. Yep, it was all Sanchez’es fault. Rex Ryan is such a genius.

All the Jets need now are Joe “Knuckles” Banner and Mike Dumbardi in their Front Office. That would really fix things.

    Hey, Tebow is still available.

  2. The Buttfumble still wins by a landslide

Especially when you consider that the Jets would LOVE to have Sanchez right now… that says a LOT!

Who would have thought that a fake QB competition during training camp wouldn’t have brought the best out in your QBs? Another lesson learned by Wrecks.

But do you guys like my gold teef?

  4. The more the Jets lose, the closer they get to a franchise QB like Mariota or Winston.

Add in the free agents they can buy with their 25 million in cap space. Now things look less grim.
    .

  5. You guys, I am getting worried that Rex might really be gone after this season. We need to do all we can to ensure that the Jets end up at 7-9, or at least 6-10 with a few game win streak to end the season. Think of all the things we’ll miss if the Jets get a decent head coach, this stuff never happens to anyone else. Also, bring back Sanchez, you know it’s right.

  6. Nice try, but the “Butt Touchdown” meme isn’t going anywhere.

    I applaud the effort though..

  7. The Jets are a joke! 40 years of misery continues as they are the worst team in football. Please use your number 1 pick to sign Winston so the circus can continue!

  8. The NFL really messed this up. The Raiders vs. Jets game should have been the last game of the season, not the first. With both teams trying to capture the number one pick, they would have both looked so graceful and fluent in their natural state of trying not to win a football game. It would be a grabbing performance with sensational juggling fumbles and high flying feat over head stumbles. Browning Nagle and JeMarcus Russell could be ceremonial captians. It would be fantastic.

Yeah, because they are guaranteed winners. Over the past few years, the hot can’t-miss names have included Jake Locker, Landry Jones, Matt Barkley, and yes, even Geno Smith.

  10. When is Rex going to be fired, or do we have to watch this until the end of the season. They are so tragic it’s laughable.

  11. Chiefs fans don’t feel sorry for anyone… remember that fumble bouncing right to Luck in the playoff game?

  12. How is it the Jets fault that a ball took such a lucky bounce? They made a great play and deflected a pass. It’s not as if there aren’t plenty of legitimate reasons to make fun of them. This just isn’t one of them.

You really have no idea what is going on with this team do you…none. John Idzik calls the shots here. Take more time and study the situation…geez!

  14. Poor Jets Fans… we would have some sympathy for you if you were not so obnoxious all the time. Clearly, you should be looking at the new Bills and new Dolphins. Both teams still have plenty of holes, but a solid core of young DRAFTED guys and a few big FA’s with new Coaching is the success. It takes a while, but it works. The Jets are trying to do the same thing with the same people and way too many big name / poor performance FA’s. Oh, Decker is the answer- NOT!, Chris Johnson is the fastest WHO CARES, now Harvin and his 120yds… all that and a dime and you still got crushed. Throw it all away and start over. I’m sure Rex will make a great DC for the Giants anyway. Mark it down.

  15. Next week the Steelers might become the first nfl team to score 100 points in a game.

I totally agree with hoping the Jets do a second half turnaround to save Rex’s job – I think we’ll ALL miss the comedy gold that is The Circus, if they fire Rex and become a serious football team. Is been so much fun over the years!

  17. It’s Ok, no team collapses like the Kansas City Chiefs.

And how is your season going, O-fer?
