Giants claim Chykie Brown off waivers

AP

Giants coach Tom Coughlin said the team was in the market for help at cornerback in the wake of Prince Amukamara’s season-ending torn biceps and they added that help on Wednesday in the form of former Raven Chykie Brown.

Brown was waived by the Ravens on Tuesday and the needy Giants announced Wednesday that their waiver claim for him was successful.

Brown didn’t play very well for Baltimore in a limited amount of playing time this season, which explains why the Ravens were willing to get rid of him in an effort to improve the play in the back end of their defense. The Giants don’t have a ton of options available to them at the moment, however, and likely hope that Brown’s experience enables him to contribute in sub packages soon.

With Amukamara, Walter Thurmond and Trumaine McBride all out for the season, the Giants have Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Zack Bowman and Jayron Hosley at the top of the depth chart at corner.

Amukamara was officially placed on injured reserve to make space for Brown on the roster.

  1. The Ravens cut him because he couldn’t cover a $5 check after many opportunities. He fancied himself a ball hawk, so he either completely missed the ball being thrown or drew a flag most of the time.

  2. I’m sorry NY.

I wouldn’t wish this guy on my worst enemy. I take that back, I would wish this guy upon the Steelers, but nobody else.

  3. There’s a plague on our CBs. Chykie should have been like, “no thanks”. It won’t surprise me if he’s on IR with the rest of our IR CB all stars.

  4. A little sore after 6 tds?

  5. Ugh. “we” are toast without the prince. Rough year so far for my g-men. Hope Seahawks are sleepy in Seattle and think we won’t show. Doubtful but you never know these days.

  6. Good lord, at this point Coughlin playing DB would be a better option. At least we’d be able to stash him and his ‘3rd down HB draw’ plays away on IR too.

  7. Brown has all of the physical tools to be a solid corner but for whatever reason he never got there mentally as a Raven. Can’t tell you how many times over the last 3 years he has been in position to break up a pass but just isn’t looking for it. Good luck to him, maybe he can finally step it up for thr Giants.

  8. This guy is NOT an NFL caliber player. He failed miserably every time he had a chance. Well, maybe I’m being harsh, there were a few games he was adequate at best. He won’t last long.
