Packers rout Eagles 53-20 at Lambeau Field

It’s tough to follow up a 55-14 win with a similar level of mastery of your opponent and the Packers fell short of doing so on Sunday.

Instead of winning by 41 points, they had to settle for winning by 33 points this time. The Packers throttled the Eagles 53-20 at Lambeau Field to keep up their scorching play at home and improve their record to 7-3. That’s the same record as the Lions, who beat the Packers in their first matchup of the season and will be on the other side of the field come Week 17. That game will take place at Lambeau, which was a house of horrors for the Eagles on Sunday in every phase of the game.

Aaron Rodgers completed 22-of-35 passes for 341 yards and three touchdowns, the Packers run defense never let LeSean McCoy get going, Julius Peppers and Casey Hayward had second half touchdown returns off turnovers and Micah Hyde returned a punt for a touchdown in the first half. The game was totally out of reach by the time the Eagles found any footing and the Mark Sanchez lovefest from last week will likely be replaced by concerns about what his three turnovers mean for future outings.

They have also now lost three games on the road to playoff contenders in the NFC — they beat the Colts in Indy in Week Two — and have fallen into a tie with the Cowboys for first place in the NFC East. They visit Dallas on Thanksgiving Day and will need to buck that road trend to keep a solid hold on a spot in a crowded playoff picture.

There are no such questions for the Packers, who have continued to make the early season worries about their chances this season look like one of the world’s great overreactions. It’s only the third time since the 1950’s (and the third time in the last three years) that a team has scored 50 points in back-to-back games. Both the Seahawks, who did it in 2012, and the Broncos, who did it last year, advanced to the playoffs and that’s increasingly looking like where the Packers are headed this season.

  1. The Packers won, convincingly, fair and square. That being said, it was really awful to watch the refs allow repeated helmet-to-helmet hits on Sanchez. If a Philly player had come within inches of Rogers’s halo, the refs would’ve rained down yellow flags like it was the end of days.

  2. Things turning out as predicted, Packers in first and the lowly queens in last. The purple clad trolls will now go into hiding.

  3. Before all the smack talking Eagles fans chime in with excuses (the refs, the QB, etc ….). You were worked over by a superior team in all facets of the game. Pretenders plain and simple.

  4. I wonder if the sanCHIIIIZZZZZZZZ is going to pats or genos tonight to share cheesefries with the peeps

  5. But don’t worry Vikings fans. Its just a fluke. We can’t beat anyone with a winning record. Not like Checkdown Teddy who led his team to a little over 100 yards passing in a loss to a Bears team you guys said couldn’t beat South Eastern high school’s JV team.

  6. They’ve had a cupcake schedule. Beat one single team with a winning record. Over rated by the east coast media. They’ve been exposed.

  7. Finding out that you are not as good as you think can be painful. Good to see buttocks fumble back in action. I don’t care how many yards he threw for. He was terrible. Did connor barwin play today? Good news is that you have tennesse coming to town and you can beat bad teams. The empty trophy case will continue in philly. The genius may have to dial up some more bubble screens to get the win next week. Just terrible football.

  8. Notice the telecast wasnt slobbering all over the eiggles sideline signal callers today hahahahahaaha

  9. And here starts the Chip Kelly back to the college game innuendoes, especially with the University of Florida job to be open, at the very least.

(And I am an Eagles fan)

Don’t duck when the Rush arrives…

Defenders aim for the mid section – if Sanchez wasn’t such a coward – he’d man up and take a hit to the ribs like a normal QB.

  11. These no life packers fans who can’t afford tickets sure got on here quick always cute hearing about 14 titles. 10 when there would like 6-8 teams in the league.

  12. Imagine the Packer’s defensive (and offensive) stats if they’d keep their foot on the gas pedal in the 2nd half of games…

The Panthers, Vikings, Bears, and Eagles were all held to less than 10 points in the first half….

We’d have at least a top 5 scoring defense and Rodgers would have at least 40 touchdowns by now.

  13. But I thought Peppers was old, slow, takes off plays, and would never do anything again. Allen was definitely the better signing…

  14. Best thing we can do is look forward to next week, make sure Fletcher hits the weight room, and focus on making the playoffs. We got our butt kicked today, hats off to GB.

  15. The road to the NFC North Championship may go through New England, as their next two games are :

    . . Detroit
    @ Green Bay
    .

  16. Sanchez’s turnovers were just icing. The Philly defense was poor. They’re still in 1st due to their 2-0 division record compared to Dallas’ 1-1. Also, the Pack are still in 2nd, due to their loss to the Lions.

  17. I CAN’T WAIT UNTIL NOVEMBER 30TH VS THE NE PATSIES . EVERY BODY IN BOSTON THINKS THEY ARE COMING TO LAMBEAU FIELD AND THEY WILL BEAT THE PACKERS ! THEY THINK BELICHEAT IS A BETTER COACH THAN VINCE LOMBARDI ! BOSTON MASSACRE THEY ARE IN FOR A RUDE AWKENING ! LMAO ! GO PACK GO !

  18. If only the packers could play at home against a 2nd string qb (and homer refs) every week. They will be exposed eventually…just like last year.

All that means is that on average, those 10 teams had more talent than the teams do today.

Only 10 teams to play for, there are about 12 teams today where not a single player on their team would make a roster if the NFL only had 10 teams.

  21. Julius Peppers = a-m-a-z-i-n-g.

So much for over the hill.

The geniuses of football around here got it wrong.

    Again.

  22. I hate to say I told you so my fellow Eagles fans.
But, you were naive to think Sanchez was better than Foles.
    STOP HATING ON FOLES!

  23. Awesome that the Packers have no major injuries right now. If Rodgers stays healthy, and the Packers don’t get any big injuries along the way, this team can go far.

  24. We saw what happens when Sanchez faces a good team with a pretty good defense. He looked good against an awful Carolina Panther team, but this Packer team is night and day from the Panthers. There will be a lot more picks, and fumbles on the way from Mark ” Butt Fumble ” Sanchez. Hopefully Foles will be back sooner than expected.

  25. Awesome that the Packers have no major injuries right now. If Rodgers stays healthy, and the Packers don’t get any big injuries along the way, this team can go far.”

Not on the road, without the refs letting them get away with blatant holds, personal fouls, and pass interference on every play.

  26. I don’t get the love affair with Sanchez. I’m not sure who will win the most overrated and overhyped backup QB of 2014 — Sanchez or Kirk Cousins.

  27. If the Eagles somehow do make it to the playoffs, they’d better hope that they don’t draw the Packers in Lambeau Field. How could they have any confidence at all going in there after this game today? They could say that it wasn’t as bad as it looked, but anyone who watched the game knows better.

  28. LOL- anyone who thinks Mark Sanchez is the reason they lost that game either didn’t watch it or knows nothing about football.

Hey, I don’t live in Green Bay, but I’ve visited for a game… have you ever actually been there or are you talking out of some oriface that you need to think about closing in polite company?

Green Bay’s a great town, I’ve taken my family there several times and always had a lot of fun. The small-ish town feel is part of the charm, but I’ll put some of the restaurants and bars against anything anywhere else in the country. They’ve even got a winery that’s surprisingly good.

    ————————-

I can afford tickets, but Lambeau Field only holds about 80,000 fans, so tickets are a little hard to come by.

Also, the Packers have won seven of their Championships while the Vikings have been in existence. And who cares how many teams were in the league anyway? The NFL still recognizes all thirteen as Championships, and that’s what really counts.

  33. As an eagles fan, we had no pressure, no defense, no nothing. at least its at a good point in the season for a wake up call. this packers team is the best in the league right now.

  34. How come the Eagles are considered an average team but then when the Packers manhandle us its a qualtiy win vs. a qualtiy team? At least the Packers won’t have home field advantage.

    Go Eagles!!!!

Sorry Charlie, the Patriots are in a stretch of : Denver, Indianapolis, Detroit and then Green Bay. There’s no disrespect, but everybody in Boston knows they can’t be focusing on the Packers until playing the Colts and Lions whom are both tough opponents.

  36. Vikings fans:
    1. The Packers are terrible without Rodgers but we have to call him girls names
    2. Teddy “10 yard max throw” is the real deal
    3. Greg Jennings is…well he’s… ok he’s washed up (1 catch 4yds) Nice choice to go to a loser franchise Greggy!
    4. Julius Peppers is washed up
    5. Ted Thompson can’t draft (Reminder, 1 Super Bowl Championship and consistent winner)
    6. Packers get all the calls (back to back games with >50 points)
    7. Jordy Nelsson is over paid with that contract
    8. Corderoy Patterson is the greatest receiver ever (nice stats this year 93rd highest receiving yds with 1 TD)

Poor, poor Vikings fans, suffer from Packer envy. Almost feel bad for you…skolol!

  37. The Pack have been scary these past few games. Not looking forward to week 17. Yeah we held you to 7 at home, but this team is playing much differently from then. Wish we could flip that switch on our offense. Hopefully we win the games we’re supposed to and somebody can knock you guys off before then.

  38. A dominating win and a bye week next Sunday to boot. True the Packers need to show up next Sunday at Edina East but check down Teddy and Craig Jennings don’t scare anyone.

The Steelers have been in existence since the early 30’s and you won absolutely nothing in your first 40 years so I can see why you want to try and discredit the titles and ignore the past. You played in the same league and played the same teams but your team was just bad. So with that being said bow to the 13 titles! By the way didn’t you get embarrassed by the Jets, yes the Jets?

  41. Speaking of Eagles QBs, on a FoxSports1 NFL show earlier THIS YEAR, I actually heard Donovan McNabb say that Aaron Rodgers was in the 2nd tier of QBs behind Manning, Brady, and Brees. Apparently Donnie thinks it’s still 2009.

2nd tier? Lol. But what do you expect from the guy who didn’t know they had ties in the NFL.

  43. Hey Packer Fans –

Aaron Rodgers threw precisely 11 NFL passes in his first 3 seasons. The fact the Teddy is still learning the game 1/2 way through his rookie season is to be expected.

If we beat you guys, it will be a HUGE upset, I’ll admit that. But as much as we all want our rookie QB to look like Cam Newton’s (yes, he was dominating back then) this is pretty normal progression.

  44. zerochampionshipsmustsuck says:

    ========================================

Well, yes. They have beat only one team with a winning record.

  45. Chip Kelly was foolishly arrogant.

    1) He observed his defense get repeatedly torched by the great Green Bay Packers and did nothing. He was pig headed and kept doing the same thing hoping for different results.

    2) He came into the game stupidly underestimating the great and wonderful Aaron Rodgers and underestimating his own far less talented group.

Chip Kelly cannot evaluate talent, he can’t adapt as a coach, he cannot recognize his weakness of arrogance, and is a stagnant guy that refuses to learn, grow, and improve himself. He needed to be humbled.

I liked the way the Packers handled the victory with class.

  46. Que the trolls. To most of the no nothing football fans on this site, the Packers are unbeatable and the Eagles are frauds. Both views are incorrect. Any knowledgeable football fan could see this coming. The Packers are hot and looked fresh with two straight home games and rested much of the 2nd half of last weeks game. The Eagles looked slow and tired after a short week having played Monday night and traveled. Everything went right for one team and everything went wrong for the other. At the end of the day, not much separates these two teams. That’s the straight dope.

  47. Headline should read “Aaron Rodgers routes Eagles.” He and Jordy Nelson carry that whole team by themselves. Anyone who thinks Ted Thompson has done a good job doesn’t know football. A-Rod should have multiple championships already.

  50. The Packer D is playing lights out. Throw the ridiculous yardage and point rankings right out the window. They’re completely dominating in the first 3 quarters. And then teams run up some yards and points in garbage time.

A top 5 NFL defense. A championship caliber defense.

  51. Philadelphia is a good football team. They just got taken to the woodshed on the road in a hostile environment. If it’s any consolation to Eagles fans, your wide receiver, Jordan Matthews, is going to be a playa’

  52. You always hear…

Wow, Lambeau Field, that’s a place that should be on your bucket list.

    You never hear….

Wow, whatever seedy deflated dome or cow pasture the Vikings are playing their home games in is a really nice place to visit.

  53. The Steelers have won exactly 2 Superbowls since the league expanded to 32 teams. Anything before there was the current amount of teams doesn’t count, right?

The Packers also have 2 since the league went to 32 teams. And the Packers are in much better shape to win one in the near future than the Steelers are.

    whats the 2nd word?

and so what eagles are a couple players away yet a good team can have bad losses its how they respond imho as an eagles fan they needed to get there butts kicked in this game for the upcoming stretch but i didnt want to see it happen this badly

  58. 1. What the heck is a deadskins fan doing on here talking smack? You have enough to worry about your bust of a savior who can’t even beat a 2-8 team. So get off this thread boyo.

    2. Eagles season ticket holder. To be honest I was real worried about this game today back when the schedule first came out and for good reason. Rodgers is prob the best qb in the game right now, an we have the two worst starting cornerbacks in the league. I knew he was gonna pick us apart.

    3. I am so happy that now people will realize that Sanchez will always be mr buttfumble. If nick foles is playing this game for the birds today I believe it would have been a more reasonable game. 35-31 something like that. All we have to do is just survive until he comes back for the playoffs and hope that we get home games in the playoffs. Undefeated at home this year. Terrible on the road

    4. If the Eagles first two draft picks this year aren’t two of the top 10 best cornerbacks in college football then howie roseman needs to be slapped.

    5. Eagles still better than any other team in the NFC east, which at end of the day is what really matters to me. RGknee- lol. Eli-5 picks?! Lol. Romo- time to lay that November and December egg. LOL!

  59. Green Bay Packers football – better football for better people.

That said, Packers still struggle with teams with a strong front 4 and teams with a power running game.

  60. An elite QB leading a team thats defense has given up 20 points or less int he last the 8 weeks, and flat out just playing great.

Say what you want about GB… because of the beginning or how they go at the end of the season…. At this moment they are a top 3 team in the NFL.

Because A-Rod is so amazing that he had two interceptions and a punt return for a TD in addition to his MVP passing day. He also held the vaunted Eagles offense to 20 points, or 13 if you count points scored during non-garbage time.

The Packers defense isn’t something to go to sleep on. I admit I was getting down on Capers. I was wrong. Capers has figured out how to use Matthews and the defense has improved dramatically as a result.

  62. Way to go Vikings fans, you squeaked out a win against the Redskins (who lost by 20 to Tampa Bay this weekend) and came out of a bye week to lose to the lowly Bears, who we beat 55-14 last week (it’s getting tough to keep these 50+ point blowouts straight). Go home and dream about your new stadium the taxpayers took care of for your crook owner.

Where do they keep football records in MN, at the bottom of Lake Minnetonka or something?

    He threw 59.

  64. Got to suck trying to be a sports fan in MN.

Packers own the vikings year after year after year. They have to look across the river and see the Packers trophy case bursting with trophies.

Then they get to look over to Madison and watch as the Badgers football wins 10 in a row v. the gophers and own them like the Packers own the vikings, Badgers B-Ball on a 15 year run, they even win more hockey championships than MN.

There are even more lakes in WI than MN.

    Wish you could!

  67. Aaron Roders has this way of exposing bad secondaries like no one else. His deep ball passes are insanely accurate, I think he might be the most accurate deep ball thrower in the NFL.

Great to see the defense hold up against a good offense. But I’m still worried about playing certain teams…the Packers always get beat by the 49ers, Seahawks and Saints. Although incredibly, there’s a chance NONE of those teams make it to the playoffs. If that happens, the Packers have a great chance at making another Super Bowl.

  68. The Sanchez fumble for a TD was hard to watch. He looked like a high school QB on that one, laying on his belly watching the ball go into the end zone.

  69. The Packers are ruthless at home. Tough to beat. The Eagles are a horrible road team this year. As a diehard Eagles fan, I surely didn’t expect to win this game. I did NOT expect the beatdown that we received (and that WAS what it was). Give credit to the Packers, they were nearly flawless; that being said, the Eagles certainly looked shellshocked as early as the end of the 1st quarter. They will bounce back, but I am really worried about our running game and the team’s hopes in the hands of Sanchez. All of you fans calling for Foles to be benched for Sanchez are surely reconsidering now. The only hope we have for any kind of playoff run is to play lights out with our front 7 on D and for the running game to get going. We aren’t going to get a return TD every game this year, Eagles fans…The team has a lot of work to do to put this thing together because our upcoming schedule is brutal. If we don’t pull it together expect to either have an early exit in the playoffs or miss them entirely.

  70. The Packers are not nearly as good as everyone thinks they are. So far this season they’ve had the easiest cupcake schedule you could possibly ask for. So far not one team they’ve played has had a winning record, except for Detriot and Philly. Just wait til they play a REAL team like the Pats. Don’t think they’ll be scoring 50+ points off of them.
