Last week the Saints waived linebacker Todd Davis, and the Broncos claimed him on waivers. When the Broncos attempted to contact Davis, they learned that he was still at the Saints’ facility, in violation of NFL rules.
That’s the word from Adam Schefter of ESPN, who reports that the NFL is looking into whether the Saints illegally “stashed” Davis, keeping him around after he was no longer on the roster.
The Saints were hoping Davis would clear waivers so they could sign him to their practice squad, and as a result they reportedly kept treating him as if he were on the team. Even after he was officially a member of the Broncos.
According to Schefter, the Saints are in line for a “stiff fine” from the NFL if the leagues investigation confirms that they violated the rules.
