Dolphins aren’t counting on Broncos offense continuing to struggle

Peyton Manning’s torrid start to the season has cooled off a bit in the last three weeks.

Manning’s thrown six interceptions while struggling to find the same level of success with the receiving corps and running backs depleted by injuries. Throw in a leaky offensive line and things are shaky all over the Broncos offense right now.

The Dolphins aren’t counting on things staying that way. Wide receiver Mike Wallace said the defense “will need a little more help” this weekend and cornerback Cortland Finnegan is expecting to see the same Manning that he’s been seeing for years.

“Peyton Manning is Peyton Manning,” Finnegan said, via ESPN.com. “He’s going to move the football. The biggest thing for us is points. He could have 500 yards passing. As long as we limit the points, that’s big for us.”

The Dolphins have a defense capable of doing that. They rank second in the league against the pass and they have a defensive line capable of creating the same kind of havoc up front that the Rams did last Sunday.

  1. It honestly looks to me like Peyton Manning is injured. I’m not saying that he can’t have bad games, but he looks like he’s struggling to get zip on the ball.

  2. Dolphins need to keep playing like they have been, and we will see what happens. Peyton was horrible last week, and I doubt he will be the same again.

  3. It’s beginning to become winter. Is Denver’s blustery weather gonna be even more of an issue for those wounded ducks he throws? Age catching up? No running game. No bye available late this season so injuries just get worse. We’ll see.

  4. Peyton always lives or dies by the quality of his WRs and running game. This to me is the biggest reason Brady is the better QB, you can throw Brady out there with two rookies and one of those fan powered arm waving displays from a car dealership and he’ll still make the other team sweat it out.

  5. Philbin DO NOT underestimate this team!!! Here in Denver they ALWAYS COME BACK!!! Lets please try to find some aggressiveness & STAY ON THE GAS when you get a lead!!! PULL ALL THE STOPS… GO FINS!!!

Maybe, but your discounting the better defenses Brady always has. The money has to be spent somewhere, Brady’s teams have it on Defense, Peyton on offense.

Peyton will win a game 34-27, while Brady will win it 17-10.

  7. I think the Broncos will win only because the game is in Denver. The Rams laid the blueprint though…attack with multiple blitz packages and force Manning to throw short intermediate passes or high lob ones.

  8. I’ve heard of exotic defenses sending extra rushers on certain snaps. I think it’s called a “blitz”. The Broncos should try experimenting with that a little.

And maybe put the offense line back the way it was. While it wasn’t a team strength, it was playing much better than the current arrangement. 4 or 5 fewer penalties per game.

  9. Teams with strong pass defenses have shown that Manning can be beat, even though he’s a great player. The Bronco’s are missing some key players, not generating much of a rushing attack, but have a good defense against the run. Plus they are at home.

That said, the 7 point line seems like a bit of an insult to the Fins defense, unless bookmakers are trolling for suckers. I expect it to be a much closer game that could go either way.

  10. the fact that the phins are even in the conversation about winning this game is amazing. years past it would be how bad will they lose. if the offense can gel like the D has we might be dangerous.

he has to really step into the throw these days. I expect he retires in the off-season

  12. It should be a good game that can go either way, this Dolphins team is is pretty damn tough. It won’t be an easy game for Denver to win, even at home.
