On Monday, Browns coach Mike Pettine offered updates on a couple of the team’s injured linebackers.
Pettine announced that Karlos Dansby is going to be out “upwards of a month” and that Jabaal Sheard could be done for the rest of the season after suffering a bone injury in his foot. Sheard was headed for further evaluation, though, and it looks like he got some good news.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Sheard learned he does not need to have immediate surgery to correct the injury to his foot. As a result, he “should” be back in the lineup in a week or so. That would be good news for a Cleveland defense that will need all the help it can get stopping the run with Dansby and defensive end Phil Taylor out of the lineup.
Barkevious Mingo will likely be tasked with a bigger role in that effort until Sheard returns to the lineup, while Craig Robertson and Chris Kirksey will carry the load on the inside.
