Eagles cruise past Titans to move to 8-3

AP

When people talk about trap games, games like the Eagles’ date with the Titans on Sunday come to mind.

A two-win team coming to town a few days before a Thanksgiving trip to play the Cowboys, who are tied with the Eagles for the lead in the NFC East, certainly has the potential to be overlooked. The Eagles weren’t looking ahead, though.

Things stayed close into the third quarter, but a pair of fumbles by the Titans and bushels of pressure from the Eagles defense helped them pull away for a 43-24 win that felt like it was headed Philly’s way from the opening kickoff. That’s when Josh Huff went 107 yards for a touchdown and the Eagles never really looked back.

There were a pair of bad Mark Sanchez interceptions, but Titans running back Bishop Sankey fumbled on the next play to hand the ball right back and Sanchez had plenty of good throws over the course of the day on his way to a line of 30-of-43 and 307 yards. LeSean McCoy chipped in with 130 yards and the Eagles might have reached 50 if their red zone work was a bit sharper. That will have to change, as will the turnovers and the habit of giving up big passing plays, once the caliber of competition rises again.

The Eagles sacked Zach Mettenberger five times, but the Titans got back into the game in the second quarter on the back of two long gains on passes to Justin Hunter and Delanie Walker. The Titans had no running game to speak of, however, and the pass rush was clearly too much for the Titans line to handle all afternoon.

Even with the flaws in mind, it was a big step in the right direction after last week’s debacle against the Packers. Beating the Cowboys and grabbing control of the division next week would be an even bigger one.

  1. 8-0 against the JV, 0-3 against the Varsity. Chip is headed to another first round loss at home-boring.

  2. I’m so glad we have Arians over Whisenpunt. By far, the most overrated coach in football, next to Lovie Smith. Garbage play-calling, conservative “play not to lose” prevent D, double speak, playing his buddies and playing all his hand picked QB stiffs. Fire that clown Tennessee; you all deserve better!

  3. Bad team at home. Eagle win. Shocker. Good team in that game eagles lose by ten . Complete fraud in Philly. Just not that good.

  4. I never thought I’d see the Titans this bad. I’ve seen high school teams that played better. It’s almost like the players want to get cut…and maybe they do.

  5. Haters keep hating. I’m more than happy with the eagles 3 losses being on the road against top teams in the NFC. 2 of which were decided in the final minute, and 2 of which in the hardest places to play in the NFC.

youknowimright, shouldn’t you be whining on redskins posts about RG3 getting pulled?

  6. Eagles win at Home, big shocker. They have only done that the last 10 times in regular season. Only the Pats can say more. Keep talking though, it is funny.

  7. LMAO. How many teams are actually good in the NFL? Teams say we are a good team, but are we not a good team because we beat teams that we should beat? Are people jealous that we put up 43 points even when we had to kick 5 fgs? Are other teams scared about what we can become (especially next season when we get rid of Bradley fletcher and cary Williams)?

  8. Eagles fan here. Happy with the win but they do need to tighten things up. Notably, they should’ve kept TEN under 20 pts. Need a killer instinct, especially on defense. Orbit may well be one and dine in the playoffs.

Realistically, they are not a Super Bowl team this year. Defense needs to play better and probably need at least one more very good receiver.

  9. Not a skins or vikings fan geniuses. I cheer for good football and not joke college offenses. I said they beat a bad team at home other genius. The last ten times huh. I guess you don’t count the playoffs. Good knowledge of your team. Just Not that good. Red zone struggles and 130 by lesean is inflated by one 53 yard run. Bell put up 206. Fraudulent.

  10. I’m pretty sure the Comboys lost to two of those same teams in their own house, and a terrible Washington team with a 3rd string QB, again in their own house…

  11. Chip Kelly’s Eagles have a 2-9 record in two seasons against teams with winning records. Not expecting that to change on Thursday.

Funny how you didn’t factor in the Colts win in Indy on MNF. But that’s to be expected from a troll, I suppose. ::waits for the “but but the refs gave you the game!!!” response::

Anyway, you’ll find very few Eagles fans bragging about this victory. But you’ll find a lot not being satisfied by it, including myself.

    Troll on.

  14. @steelers are superior

They beat 8 of 11 teams on their schedule so far. They also haven’t lost to the Bucs and Jets.

  15. Is it our fault that we play who’s on our schedule ? Lions are a good team and lost to a better team today, Bears beat Tampa, Denver lost to STL last week I believe, CHIEFS lost to Oakland on Thursday ! It’s the NFL you fools ! Teams don’t make their own schedule ! We 8-3, are you mad bro ?

  16. Here we go again

    Eagles win
    Trolls: well chip is fat

    Eagles win
Trolls: well they haven’t played anyone good

    Eagles win
Trolls: well they have no rings

    Eagles win
    Trolls: well they booed Santa

    Eagles win
    Trolls: it’s a gimmick offense

    Yawn.

  17. I feel very smart when I read my writing. Thanks for asking. I still think your team is s fraud by the way.

  18. 8-3. I will happily take it. Beat a team today that they should have, and after last weeks beat down by the Packers, they needed to. Simple fact remains though, this is still a team in a rebuilding phase. Defense has some solid players, and some obvious weak links that won’t be here 2 years from now. Secondary, linebacker, aging offensive line, need to be addressed, and I believe the quarterback situation is far from settled. Good players at the skill positions on offense and an excellent coaching staff have them in a good position to make the playoffs and maybe win a few while they’re there. Superbowl team ? No. Great team ? No. Good team that will continue to get better ? Yes. 8-3, again, I’ll take it.

None of us feel like you’re very smart when we read your writing.

Anyone still talking about “joke college offenses” should have posting privileges revoked. How long does this team have to keep putting up points and yards? Do they not count unless you deem them properly old school? Because they all count the same on the scoreboard.

I’m not sure the “trap game” theory applies when you lost by 150,000 points on Monday Night Football 6 days ago.

    ————–

Steelers beat the Titans 6 days ago on MNF. Or maybe you’re thinking of the Monday night game 2 weeks ago when the Eagles beat the snot out of the Panthers. Talkin trash usually only works when you know what you’re talking about though smh

  21. The offense is a joke because you don’t have to be good to put up ridiculous numbers . It takes the skill out of the game. I did not see one second of todays game but i would imagine sanchez threw ten to fifteen bubble screens today. Horrible football. I really dont care if the birds win or lose i just like harrassing you people. You morons cannot ruin my day. I bought new underwear and socks today that are phenomenal. they fit perfectly.

  22. Im a cowboy fan, going to the Thanksgiving day game on Thursday against the Eagles.. We will see who is who

LOL. What a life you have. You didn’t watch the game, but you spend your day being a troll. A troll on some football website. You really can’t get any lower than that. Time to reevaluate your life, princess.

  24. Ah yes. Spending a whole day being productive instead of watching a meaningless game. I will have to evaluate my life there sweetheart. I just like entertaining myself while I dump by trolling you losers. Do you get game checks because the eagles won. Will your life change if they win a super bowl? Pretty sad the way you guys view sports. Sad. Or maybe I did watch the whole game or maybe not….cliffhanger. I cannot wait to see how you turds write that story ending.

I’m sorry, are bubble screens not allowed? By the way, you’re wrong. Only a few screens. Unlike you, some of us actually watched the game. Birds did basically what they should have done…beat up a bad team at home. Now go back and admire yourself in your Tommy Coppers. #WeKnowYour’reNot.

  26. Hanes. Not tommy copper but thx for caring. I was beginning to think no one in here liked me.

  27. Youknowimright – What happened to the Chip Kelly back to school talk? 8-3 right now…. For being a coach that doesn’t teach real football he’s not doing so bad.

  28. I’m honored that you remember what I post. I have no idea what you post or who you are. I think that sums it up.and it is mickey mouse football. Giants cowboys was refreshing to watch hard nosed real fooball on both sides of the ball and not spread crap.

  29. Oh to write something and completely expose yourself. Gb runs a base three wr set same thing the giants run. Ne and broncos run spread formations which have been around for decades but not a true spread read option because there is no threat of either one of those qbs running with the football. They don’t have a coach reading def for them and predeterminig reads on the field. They are capable of reading a progression and shreading def. Read option qbs have one read and then usually tuck and run or chuck it out of bounds. poor skill levels. Miami runs that college crap as well because lazor is there now.Now if there is anything else you need me to explain to you please post again. Son I have forgotten more about this game then you will ever know.

    ***************************************************

Didn’t the Eagles play those refreshing hard nosed football Giants a few weeks back and smack them to the tune of 27-0?

  31. no beckham, no jennings, different o line. but yes they won a game at home against another bad team. that’s what they do. just not that good against playoff caliber teams.

  32. actually i think that might have been beckham’s start to the season. anyway way different player now than you saw the first time around.

  33. actually i think that might have been beckham’s start to the season. anyway way different player now than you saw the first time around.

So a rookie player is now a different player? lol.. yeah he changed so much within a few games…..

  34. Are matthews and huff better players after playing a few games? Yup. It is called experience. Wow this is not a smart group at all. Then you make it worse by typing it into this blog for everyone to read. It is just too easy abusing eagles fans because it is a below average intellgence group. It is like fishing with dynamite. They really need to fix the public school system in philly fast.
