Steelers place Brett Keisel on injured reserve

Initial reports on Sunday were that Steelers defensive end Brett Keisel suffered a torn triceps during the team’s loss to the Saints and that the injury would bring his 2014 season to a close.

The Steelers made that official on Monday when they placed Keisel on injured reserve. They signed defensive end Clifton Geathers to take Keisel’s place on the roster.

Keisel, who had 17 tackles, a sack and the second interception of his career in 12 games this year, signed with the Steelers in August after spending the offseason waiting for an offer to return to the team that he has played for since 2002. It finally came after Keisel went to visit the Cardinals, but it’s fair to wonder if this now really does mark the end of the line for the 36-year-old Keisel.

If so, he’ll have little to look back at with regret after winning a pair of Super Bowls and three AFC titles during a long run that started when Keisel was the 242nd pick in the 2002 draft.

  1. Awesome hardworking player! Along with Smith and Hampton, they made a hellava DL. So glad he came back to the Steelers and will retire as one. Thanks Beard! You did great.

  2. Keisel is a warrior! I wish him a speedy recovery, and a big thanks for being a Steeler!

Maybe the best run stopping D in the last 20 years.

  4. Best beard in the business.

When Eric Weddle’s beard grows-up, it wants to be half the beard that Keisel’s beard is.

  5. So glad the Steelers brought him back, not only because Keisel is one reason we still have any shot at the playoffs, but because he’s always represented the team and the fans so well. Great team member on and off the field. Love Da Beard!!

  6. What a beast. Thank you, Beard, for all the years. Not only a great player but the only legitimate NFL cheerleader…he got the crowd riled uppppp!!!

  7. When your known around the league because of your facial hair instead of your play…..it really Dosen’t say much. Dude was an avg. DL that needed a razor

  8. Bengaygal- you’re just happy he is not available to unleash ‘el barba’ against the weak Cincy o-line.
Seriously tho, there isn’t one player in the history of the Bengals that can carry the jock of 99. BUNGLE ON

  9. Happy to have watched the Pats battle against a pro’s-pro like Keisel. Can head out with his head held high given those 2 rings on his fingers. Respect from Pats Nation.
