Former NFL special teams coach Pete Rodriguez has died due to complications following surgery.

According to the Associated Press, Rodriguez, 75, died on Sunday following “a rare complication” after surgery.

Rodriguez, one of the first Hispanic coaches in the league, worked for the Los Angeles Raiders, Phoenix Cardinals, Washington Redskins, Seattle Seahawks and Jacksonville Jaguars in his 19-year NFL coaching career.

He served only as a special teams coach in the NFL, though he was also the assistant head coach to Dennis Erickson in 1998 with the Seahawks.

While primarily an assistant only throughout his career, Rodriguez did spend four years as the head coach at Western Illinois from 1979-1982.

Rodriguez was a two-time special teams coach of the year.
