Jerick McKinnon ruled out for Sunday’s game vs. Jets

The Vikings will be without their leading rusher for Sunday’s game vs. the Jets.

The club has ruled out tailback Jerick McKinnon with a lower back injury, per the club’s injury report. McKinnon did not practice all week with the ailment, which also kept him out of last Sunday’s win vs. Carolina.

A third-round pick from Georgia Southern, McKinnon paces the Vikings in rushing yards (538) and carries (113). Matt Asiata, Joe Banyard and Ben Tate are other options in the Vikings’ backfield.

In other Vikings injury news, rookie outside linebacker Anthony Barr (knee) is doubtful for Sunday. Like McKinnon, he didn’t participate in any workouts this week.

The Vikings’ No. 1 pick, Barr has started all 12 games this season, notching 70 tackles and four sacks.

At 5-7, the Vikings are on the fringes of playoff contention in the NFC. However, they are favored against the 2-10 Jets in Minneapolis.

  1. How about the other 52 Viking players? Can they also be ruled out to play this Sunday? If so, then the New York Jets have a chance to win a game!

  2. Sdsmooth you must be a raiders houston jax cleveland (fluke year) bills miami rams giants skins bears detroit chargers (fluke year) Fan, but yeah, the jets do suck

  3. 5-7 qualifies a team as being on the fringes of a playoff spot? Maybe mathematically, but with so many other teams 3 games ahead with only 4 to go, impossibile is more like it. Which is essentially the same chance they had with they started their season.

  4. Vikings are up and coming, next year the NFC North is in trouble, my guess they finish 8-8 this year, not bad for team starting a rookie QB and lost their best player cause he was an idiot and the commissioner is a moron!

  5. Vikes are going to put a hurt on the Jets. Geno Smith passing attach is more like a biplane sputtering low on fuel in the fog flying through a snowstorm.

  6. sdunsmooth take your own advice why bother. Troll every story. I am surprised you weren’t lying again here about how the vikings finish in last place every year. Even though the facts state queen bay packers have finished in last place more often than the vikings have.

  7. “…the Vikings are on the fringes of playoff contention…”
Oh man – possible I cracked a rib or damaged my spleen after reading that!

Some pretty good-looking rookies on this Vikings team. I hope they’re all available again soon.
    ____________
    1. QB who can’t throw the ball 20 yard past the line of scrimmage? Check.
    2. Linebacker leading the league in missed tackles? Check.
    3. Converted running back unlikely to be able to withstand NFL pounding? Check.
    4. Raw athletic WR who can’t run routes….oops, at was last year’s promising rookie …

  9. All 8-8 will do is screw up next year’s draft for us!! We need a QB that can throw beyond the first down marker!!

  10. This viqueen team is going to win out.

    Playoffs here we come.

9-7 for a wildcard spot. Superbowl here we come.

    Book it.

I can see the purple confetti falling now.

    The dynasty continues.

Where have I heard that before? ….. Oh that’s right, from Vikings fans every single year. “Yeah, we stink this year, but watch out next year!!!!!”

Yes, we’re all really scared of what the Vikings will be next year…. bahahahaha.

    ……….
Mean while the GReen and Gold have all world #12 and……well…..thats about it.

  13. Come on Florio. I count on this place for breaking news. Peterson got picked up in my fantasy team based on Sports Illustrated Peter King… -_-

  14. Wow, 11 out of 17 comments on this thread are from Packer fans. I am impressed because I did not think you guys could put down your food long enough to comment this much.

I do find it entertaining however, you chubby guys crack me up with you take on football. Keep’em coming.

  15. I know it’s hard to believe … but how did the Vikings finish in last place for 7 consecutive seasons (2007-2013)?

    All with AP.

  16. Bridgewater is gonna be a stud! He can make all the throws just fine, once he gets acclaimed to the game, his accuracy will improve on the long ball! He made all the throws @ Louisville. Our line has done him no favors, he will be our franchise QB for years

  17. Two different sites that compute the odds say the vikings have a less than 1% chance of making the playoffs and the other is more precise stating the vikings have a 0.11%.

So a 1000 to one chance is on the fringes.

The Rams are 8 times more likely to make the playoffs with a 0.86% chance.

It all begins with the Buccaneers beating the Lions in Detroit.

    SKLOL!!

  18. Who cares about the Playoffs. Any true viking fan , not wearing purple glasses knew this year was a developmental year! New HC, and staff, rookie QB, no AP. I will say this, had AD been in the backfield, we are talking playoffs, or, we are far better off than, .008817% as ^^^^^ that dude explained with his Packerwacker logic!
Aaron Rodgers is the greatest QB to ever play the game…. Hands down, his throws are a thing of beauty, even on a scramble he places the ball 30yards downfield with 1inch precision! As a viking fan its painful having a rival team lead by such a stud, but as a fan of football, he is just that good!!!

sdsmooth your stupidity goes with out saying . least you forget the best year farve ever had in 09

Obviously you’re a Viking fan. Vikings fans don’t know what a truly good season looks like. A good year in your world is 8-8.

A good season in every other teams’ world ends with a Super Bowl victory.

Favre’s best season was 1996. The year he won the Super Bowl.

  21. Look at the current health state and quality of the RB on the team.

    Could they use AD.

    Ah YEAH!

Next year AD will have his best year EVER and if he is with the VIKINGS that will help them alot.

  22. Packerfans must have forgotten that the pack went 8-7-1 last year, and want to make snarky remarks about the vikes being 8-8 this season. its funny how all of the packer fans have short term memory.
