Cardinals may put Andre Ellington on IR

For the Cardinals and their “next man up” vibe, it’s probably easier to list the starters whom they haven’t had to replace due to injury.  The latest could be running back Andre Ellington.

According to Mike Jurecki of FOX Sports 910, the Cardinals are considering shelving Ellington, who has both a hip pointer and a sports hernia.

Ellington has 660 yards rushing in 12 games, with an average of 3.3 yards per carry.  Last year, he averaged 5.5 per attempt.

Marion Grice is expected to get the bulk of the reps with Ellington out.  Grice has 29 yards rushing.  All season.

  1. As a Cardinals fan for four-plus decades, this season has been difficult to fathom. Love the direction of the team, but no team can withstand the number of injuries to key players without finally caving.

I can seen 9-1 turning into 9-7. But, contrary to most of the typical NFL fan’s belief, that wouldn’t constitute a choke. More like a real-world adjustment.

Still, no one cries for them. BA probably has them believing they can still win. I guarantee they won’t just roll over.

  2. Re: Ray Rice… No. He is coming off a career-low in yards per carry. Couple that with the PR nightmare his signing would carry and there is no way a team – even one desperately in need of a body at RB – considers adding him at this time of the year.

Considering the Cardinals bailed on Jonathan Dwyer in the preseason when domestic battery charges came up, they simply cannot alienate half of the their fans (and become the target of the rest of the league’s fans) by signing Rice. Too little. Too late. Too risky.

  3. My goodness…every week critical players down. This really was a top team, Super Bowl contender. I really wouldn’t blame them if they gave Rice a call and still tried to make a run.

  4. dywer was cut because he said he wanted to kill himself acording to ba. we still don’t have a resoulation on the domestic against d wash and that was last feb. whats up with that nfl?

  5. Losing Ellington for the rest of the year would be a serious blow. If Marion Grice is next man up, he’ll need to be productive. It’s a mystery why hey don’t play Stepfan Taylor more. With Jonathan Cooper expected to play more at guard, there should be an opportunity for someone to gain rushing yards against KC today.
