Ahmad Brooks doesn’t play after missing a meeting during the week

Earlier this season, the 49ers benched linebacker Ahmad Brooks during a game because he took issue with the team’s plan for him to split time with other players.

On Sunday against the Raiders, Brooks found himself lashed to the bench again. Coach Jim Harbaugh said after the game that Brooks missed a defensive meeting on Tuesday and that “other guys had a better week.” Brooks said he was unaware of the meeting and attended another meeting on domestic violence later in the day. He was also under the impression that he was going to see some time in what turned out to be a crushing loss to Oakland.

“It’s frustrating, very frustrating,” Brooks said, via the Associated Press. “They have their plan of what they want to do and all I can do as a player is just abide by the rules. No, I do not agree. I’m just a player, I’m just a number, you know what I mean?”

With rookie Aaron Lynch showing well at outside linebacker and Aldon Smith back in the fold, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Brooks’s playing time cut without any disciplinary reasons. It also wouldn’t be surprising to see the 49ers part ways with the veteran in the offseason rather than pay him $6 million.
