Zach Mettenberger expected to miss the rest of the season

With the Titans closing in on the top pick in next year’s NFL Draft, quarterback will be near the top of their wish list.

Which is convenient, since they’re probably going to need another one this week.

According to Jim Wyatt of the Tenneseean, rookie Zach Mettenberger is expected to miss the rest of the season after aggravating his right shoulder injury in yesterday’s 36-7 loss to the Giants.

X-rays taken at the stadium yesterday were negative, and he’s getting an MRI today to confirm the degree of the injury. But it’s worse than the grade one sprain he suffered last week and played through.

It doesn’t feel good right now, but honestly, I can’t tell you,” Mettenberger said last night. “We’ll see tomorrow with the MRI.”

Now the Titans are forced to turn back to Jake Locker, the former first-rounder who was benched earlier this year after his own injury issues made him unreliable, and forced them to turn to the sixth-round pick.

The Titans are tied with the Raiders, Jaguars, Jets and Buccaneers at 2-11, but the Bucs would pick first and the Titans second based on current standings, since ties are broken by strength of schedule.

  1. Ken Whisenhunt is 100% responsible for this. His playcalling is getting his QB killed, and he has made no effort to make any adjustments. It’s Mike Martz all over again.

Anyone who watched the past couple games could see that the Titans’ decimated O-line is no longer capable of protecting the QB….yet Whisenhunt continues to rely on slow-developing passes that require 5- and 7-step drops, while sending 4 and 5 receivers out on routes and offering no additional protection for the QB.

The result has been predictably awful. The combination of OL injuries and Whisenhunt’s playcalling has turned the QB into a piñata.

  2. Hopefully Mett only misses a game or two. It would be nice if he could start the season finale. The Titans are not taking a QB high in this draft. They already have their QB of the future in Mett. Whiz on the other hand needs to start to pull his own weight, it’s far overdue!

  3. This is the worst thing that could have happened to the franchise. Not only does the injury keep the organization from evaluating him for the future, but now locker is coming in and with the luck this team has will win us two out of three games to finish the season and give us another crappy pick.
