Ras-I Dowling, a safety known primarily as one of Bill Belichick’s bigger draft disappointments in New England, has managed to return to an active NFL roster.

The Raiders announced that Dowling has been elevated from their practice squad to their 53-player roster.

Dowling has spent the whole season on the Raiders’ practice squad. Belichick took him with the first pick in the second round of the 2011 NFL draft, but he lasted just two years in New England and has played only nine games in his NFL career.

The Raiders also brought up linebacker Bojay Filimoeatu from the practice squad to the active roster and placed safety Larry Asante on injured reserve.

  1. Ras promptly tripped over the line he was supposed to sign on and was immediately place on the Raiders injured reserve.

Showed a lot of promise when drafted by the Pats, but I don’t think he’s ever stayed healthy enough to contribute anything to a team.

  2. The media kills Bilichick but hes the first to tell you he doesnt aways get it right. He has short term memory , which is what you need in this league to be successful!!!!…..The media forgets to tell you he said that !!!!

  3. I’ll field this one, and thanks for bringing it up, Joe Sixpack. Ra’s al Ghul is the guy from Batman, Ras-I Dowling is his distant cousin. Still, Dowling has some ninja moves, so beware.

  4. Deck chairs on the Titanic! Another shining example of why the Raiders are the worst team in the NFL, 12 years running, cant get a new stadium, and will eventually be deported to Mexico. Merry Christmas Reg, looks like you’re still the man! Nice!

  5. Dowling had some good play on the field his first year when he was healthy (all 2 minutes of it…).

Hopefully he turns it around and has some success with the Raiders.

  6. Every club whiffs on draft picks at times, but it’s the good clubs/GM/coach who are able to set their ego aside and move on. There are a lot of teams who hang on to players way too long based on draft position or name recognition.

  7. Gearing up to get back and fight for that #1 overall pick._________________

Sir, what are the Raiders going to do with that number one pick? They are fantastically famous for BUSTS!! Russell ring a bell?

No team has had higher draft picks than the Raiders for the last 12 years. Yet what? Every year you get worse. Am i lying? 2-11, the ugly truth!

  8. Tom Brady (HOF), Gronkowski (All pro), Gostkowski (All pro), Seymour (All pro), McCourty (All pro), Mankins (All pro), Matt Light (pro bowl), Wilfork (pro bowl), Mayo (pro bowl), Matt Slater (pro bowl), Cassel (pro bowl), Asante Samuel (pro bowl), Dan Koppen (pro bowl), Deion Branch (SB MVP). While Dont’a Hightower, Chandler Jones, and Stork, look to be Pro Bowl players. How’s that drafting??

Jarvis Moss. Knowshon Moreno. Tim Tebow. Alphonso Smith. Just saying….
McKenzie has had two first round picks. Both are starting and playing well. His 7th round corner is playing better than Denver’s first pick. And his 4th round DT is playing better than Denver’s first pick last year.

  10. This kid had ability in college. Maybe he ends up like Darius Butler, who was drafted in a similar spot and became a servicable NFL player for the Colts. If he can ever stay healthy and wants to work hard enough.
