Dolphins fall behind early, storm back to win a wild one

AP

It wasn’t easy for the Dolphins. But they took care of business in the end.

After the Vikings took a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter, the Dolphins finally settled down on both sides of the ball and stormed back to tie the game 35-35 late in the fourth quarter. When the Vikings lined up to punt with less than a minute left, the snap was bad, the Dolphins blocked the punt out of the end zone, and the resulting safety gave the Dolphins a 37-35 win.

It was an exciting ending that improved the Dolphins’ record to 8-7, although their playoff hopes ended when the Steelers won today. The Vikings drop to 6-9.

Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill had a big day, passing for 396 yards and throwing four touchdown passes. Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater continues to show promise and completed 19 of 26 passes for 259 yards, with two touchdowns and one interception.

It was a weird game that saw, among other things, the Dolphins jumping offside twice as the Vikings lined up for a two-point conversion, moving the conversion from the 2-yard line to the 1-yard line to the half-yard line, where Matt Asiata plunged in for the score. That and the game-winning blocked punt were two of the stranger sequences of this NFL season. This was a fun game, even if it was ultimately a meaningless game between two teams going nowhere.

  1. Pssst…pft poet….

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

  2. Schismville!
Pathetic state, pathetic team, and most of all… an extremely pathetic fan base!
(I won’t even mention little bitty bongwater)

  3. If the replay officials give ultimate deference to the call as made on the field, then what is the point of replay at all? Vikings got hosed by the replay officials in NY.

  4. Don’t worry. This is pftpoets plan. Play just enough to almost win. Remember it’s not about the wins it’s about draft positions. Drafting high rd busts is the cornerstone of the Vikings franchise.

  5. The Vikings got robbed early by the refs, that Teddy/Ford should’ve been a TD.

As a neutral I’m very impressed with Bridgewater. The kid has played some tough defenses the past few weeks and he’s kept the Vikings in the game all the way until the end.

Well Vikings fans this wasn’t a winning season but I think you guys might’ve found your QB finally.

  6. As a Packer fan, I momentarily had mixed feelings about this. If the Queens win, they slide down another couple of spots on the ol’ draft board.

    But on second thought…

    Ahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!

  7. Another 4th quarter collapse by the D. We need to scrap every player we have in our secondary as they are all worthless. We can’t defence passes and get PI’s every time the ball is tossed up 50/50. Only good thing with loss is we keep a higher draft position. Sure hope they pick a cornerback! What started out to look so promising this year has really turned into another miserable season .

  8. Don’t fret my little queenies, one more week and you’ll be in the off season. We know you always win that!

  9. Now that Ron Winter retired, Tony Corrente has taken over as worst official in the NFL. It’s a shame that he stole this win away from Teddy Bridgewater. He couldn’t have played any better.

  10. That ladies and gentlemen is classic Minnesota Vikings football. Winners find a way to win and the Vikings once again find a way to lose.

  11. Theodore has shown promise, but he loses his ability to be effective, as that offensive line is just awful allowing immediately.

As someone that mostly watches mostly NFC ball, does Cameron Wake get the credit he deserves, he is always causing trouble when I catch a Phins game.

  12. No way you should lose after scoring 35 points. This loss falls squarely on the defense. Stupid penalties, lousy tackling (again), letting receivers roam free, no pressure on receivers. It goes on and on.

Weirdest game I’ve watched in some time.

Will wait for the NFL apology letter for taking a TD off the board at the end of 2nd half.

Of course that’s the reason you lost…!!

    I know math is hard for Packer fans, but a 4-point swing in a 2 point game . . . .

Forget it. Might as well teach astrophysics to my dog.

  14. Same old trolls making themselves entertained by posting multiple comments we’ve heard time and time again.

It is a bit funny though knowing PFTpoet has you all riled up like he intends to, while he’s not even a vikings fan…

  15. With Spelman as GM and Zimmy and Norv running this team we are a Superbowl lock. Next Year.

With check down teddy we will go 16-0 next year.

AP will rush for 2500 yards next year. If he can keep from beating his kid again. Anger issues never go away.

CP will have 130 receptions and 2500 yards receiving next year.

Michael Sam is going to lead this team in tackles once Kluwe starts coaching him.

    Book it.

This all ending with the confetti falling on the Vikings after the Superbowl. Next year that is.

The no Superbowl win Viking dynasty continues again this year.

It must really suck to be a fan of that pathetic team and franchise.

    Skol

  16. The Dolphins didn’t beat the Vikings, the referees beat the Vikings.

Whoever made that call on Rhodes at the end of the game should be canned.

    Oh well…

  17. Somebody said Teddy played a tough defence this last three weeks. Sorry but our defence is not the defence you think it is. I teams have racked up a thousand yard and a thousand points against us this month.

  18. That was a disgusting display by the defense, giving up a touchdown on every second-half drive. They’ve shown great improvement this season but that was ridiculous.

The beauty of it is, Teddy would have still given us a victory if the touchdown at the end of the first half wouldn’t have been stolen. Next year is looking good!

  19. That was a TD at the end of the first half, announcers and Perriara saw green next to Fords right foot. The pass INT call at the end was horrible, Robinson was looking back at the ball. Pathetic officiating crew should not be paid today, least not by the NFL.

  20. Theodore has shown promise, but he loses his ability to be effective, as that offensive line is just awful allowing immediately.

Another shaggydooleism. How entertaining. Is there any other Packer fan that could interpret this for everyone?

Another post where a Vikings fans would rather point out typos, than how bad their team blew it today.

I guess I can’t blame you for not being able to connect the dots on my post. as you probably didn’t bother watching the end of the game, in anticipation of the horrific meltdown coming.

Besides my typos appear the only thing you have to look forward to on Sundays.

  23. “meaningless game , two teams going nowhere.”well thats the Vikings in a nutshell folks. little teddy played well enough to lose, when he grows up and can see over his O line he is gonna be good.

  24. @stevent92:
“Forget it. Might as well teach astrophysics to my dog.”

That’s funny as hell, man! Considering you’re a queen fan, I’d shoot for a more attainable (but unrealistic) goal of teaching your dog to sit.
    Skoal!

  25. While I think the ref’s screwed up on the Ford touchdown in the second half, not gonna use that as an excuse. The fault lies directly on the second half play of the defense. Even with a number of starters out, they GOTTA play better than they did PERIOD!

Teddy continues to improve every week. He is still making some fundimental errors, but most rookie QB’s playing in their first season always do. The ONLY ones calling him a bust are the GB fans/trolls. He is ABSOLUTELY the franchise QB the Vikings have been needing for many years.

Off season more offensive needs will be addressed such as left tackle, a number 2-3 WR and maybe a better back than Asiata is.

Watch out world, the Vikings are about to be in play for the division championship (and further) for at least the next decade plus!

  26. Why did all of these Packer fans think the Vikings were going to go somewhere this year? Really we are playing with 2nd and 3rd stringers and rookies. We shouldn’t even win 6 games with Adrian Peterson on the team. So the hate that the Packers keep talking is showing that they are scared of what the Vikings have brewing. Greengay, why are you guys celebrating when you might not even have a home playoff game. Your road record is horrible and your going to be ONE and DONE.

Lol, shaggydoodle calls his incoherent posts “typos”
    _______

When your favorite team, is out of the playoff race before you can have leftover Thanksgiving bird in consecutive seasons. I guess its time to start talking about other things.

I didn’t expect Grammar to be most popular. I would have sworn, the fair weather fans, would be talking about Detroit. I guess not though.

If you guys want to obsess about it you should start the site ProGrammarPosts. I promise not to be an issue their.

  28. Could be worse folks….we could look like every packer fan, smell like every packer fan, live with our moms like every packer fan and think that wearing a cheesehat is cool….lol, lol.
At the end of the day, we graciously take a frusterating year and yet enjoy our families with more than one tooth, unlike yet another packer fan staple.
And fear not…we will see the Pack watching the superbowl from their trailers just like the rest of us. 🙂

Skol!!….btw …..u cheeseheads have yet to figure out the spelling of that.

  29. Viking fans, keep your chin up.

One week away from the off season and there you will be champions again if only on paper. Then to the draft where every pick is sure to improve the Viking team if not nominated for the Hall of Fame. And don’t forget your predictions of winning the Superbowl. Forget the fact the team hasn’t sniffed a berth in the Superbowl for decades and focus on how big you should build your trophy case for the dynasty that is sure to follow.

  30. Diabetes, heart disease, emphysema.

    Title town for a reason.

No? It’s about all those championships you won when players wore leather helmets and everybody was white and unathletic?

    Oh, ok then.

  31. It’ll be a big game for the Vikings next week when they attempt to finish in last place in the division with double digit losses for the 4th time in the last 5 years.

MN is the mother of all incompetence.

I’m not going to speak for all Packers fans, but I will say this: I didn’t think the Vikings were going anywhere this year. I fully felt that they would finish in last place in the division. The only reason I make comments on Vikings stories is because Vikings fans told me they would win the Super Bowl this year. And not only that, but it was the beginning of a dynasty, and multiple championships, in Minnesota.

If Vikings fans wouldn’t have made those bold predictions, I’d steer clear of Vikings stories. But as things stand, it’s too fun to point out how wrong these Vikings fans are.

  33. I agree with beerbratscheese. Here is an example of the thepftpoet stupidity.

    2014-2015 Minnesota Vikings Season:
Adrian Peterson – 1,900 Rushing Yards, 12 Tds.
Cordarrelle Patterson – 1,400 Receiving Yards, 11 Tds.
Teddy Bridgewater – 4,100 Passing Yards, 33 Tds, 7 Ints.
All Ending with a Superbowl Victory & 13-3 Record.

    Here is another one.

    1. thepftpoet says: Apr 24, 2014 3:30 PM
    The Vikings Position needs:
A franchise QB- Teddy Bridgewater at 8.
A stud MLB – Another great late first round trade up when CJ Mosley falls.
More depth at CB and Safety in the later rounds.
We then will officially the most stacked team offensively with the firepower offensively of the 15-1 Vikings 1998 team.
Also we will have a revamped defense with Mike Zimmer coaching who has never not had a top 5 Defense.
All this will ultimately lead us to a division title and a Super Bowl berth.
I can already see the purple and gold confetti falling

    Eat it.

The no superbowl win Viking dynasty continues.

    Soon to be 0-50

  34. The off season is coming and no more blame the officiating posts.

I know that after the draft the vikings types will claim their 7th round pick will be the 7th best player in the entire draft.

Every free agent signing will be an example of the GM’s genius and worth another win.

Wining a division where they haven’t won a game in years? They tell you to “Book it” every off season and hate when you do.

They are far more annoying than Jet types.

  35. I believe that the NFL should go to a lottery system like the NBA for the bottom 8 teams.

I’m tired of the same teams (Vikings, Jags, Browns, Bucs, Raiders, Redskins, Texans, Titans, etc.) getting all of the top picks and just ruining them. Meanwhile, the same teams (Patriots, Broncos, Colts, Packers, Seahawks, etc.) keep developing HoF players from the bottom of the draft or even with UDFA’s.

And, if you’re in the top 10 draft picks for more than 4-5 consecutive years, you should lose your draft picks and be forced to work only with the undrafted kids. Too many good players are having their livelyhood screwed by entitled billionaires and their incompetent FO’s.

  36. Teddy Bridgewater will soon be a top 5 QB leading the Vikings to many victories. It just takes time….

  37. Bring back the replacement officials!… They didn’t have any more terrible calls than these (union) Clowns.

They ripped-off the Vikings of a TD–
Bogus pass interference call on Rhoades–

With the current state of rules against defensive backs, they’ve given these officials a “Golden Ticket” to call whatever is necessary to get a desired outcome… Why not just put the DB’s in a straight jacket?

  38. “total fluke saves Tanny from another blown lead in the 4th Q”

Um, wasnt the second half just 4 long td drives by tannehill? Vikings had a 14 point lead.
