Lynch caps touchdown with dive that probably will provoke a fine

Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch iced Sunday night’s win over the Cardinals with a career-long 79-yard touchdown run.  He entered the end zone with a dive that included a crotch grab.

The maneuver was identical to the manner in which Lynch capped off the “Beastquake” touchdown run from the wild-card playoffs four years ago.  When he did it the last time, no one noticed — so he was neither flagged nor fined.

This time around, it was noticed.  (Even though it wasn’t flagged.)  Lynch will now be in line for a fine.

Last year, Patriots cornerback Logan Ryan was fined $10,000 for making the same gesture.

  1. So where are the cards fans who were complaining about the power rankings this week? Still wondering why you were behind seattle? I am not a fan of either team, but AZ has lost 3 of their last 5 (I believe) and they might lose to SF next week. They are backing into the playoffs.

  2. Honestly you gotta give the Card’s fans credit for comin’ out of the ground every 17 years like Cicada’s.

The ones who trash talked before this game….well it was cute. I ‘m glad u enjoyed your 15 minutes but its time to move over and let the big boys play.

The cute little Cardinal go swooped on by a Giant Hawk. The Hawk took the little Cardinal back to the nest and the chicks had a good meal.

  3. I was thinking as he was running down the field “I think I see a crotch grab in the immediate future”. You knew was going to do it, and it was still great.

I don’t like the Seahawks, but that was one of the greatest runs of all time and I think the CG was entirely appropriate.

  4. Beastquake 2.0

I hope all those Cards fans that were talking before the game come back for their crow. If Haushka could make a field goal, this one’s even more of a laugher.

  5. How is that not taunting? Im not for these stupid penalties for celebrations having fun or poking the quarterback, but jeez if you have stupid rules at least be consistent stupid rules

  6. Well how could they fine him when the NFL had Michael Jackson perform a Super Bowl halftime show where all he did was grab his crotch during the performance

  7. Lynch will be broke 2yrs after he retires & will have to sell his gold teeth to buy groceries.. nice W over an overrated AZ squad starting an absolutely awful 3rd string QB

  8. Congrats Seattle on the W. Realistically, it’s not like they beat Carson Palmer or even Stanton. They beat a dude that we picked up 3 weeks ago (again) and a bunch of second stringers with a gassed defense. No wonder Bruce cut his ass. That game was a perfect reminder of the kind of QB talent evaluator Whiz is. This team has done great in the face of adversity but the reality of it is when you don’t have your best players, you’re just not the best team. Bummer man. GO CARDINALS!!!

  9. Seattle fans when Seattle was losing: key players are injured.
In reality: Russell Wilson -healthy. Marshawn Lynch-healthy. Percy Harvin- healthy. Doug Baldwin-healthy. Richard Sherman-healthy. Earl Thomas-healthy. Michael Bennett-healthy.
Seattle fans after beating a suspect team to begin with now playing with a 3rd string QB: REPETE, greatest team in the league, they’re hot right now.
In reality: you beat a 3rd string QB on a team that was suspect to begin with and are diluisional if you think this means you’re going back to the Super Bowl.

  10. The owners are hypocrites! If they could run more than 0.25 miles they would do the same thing too!

Marshawn Lynch is the ultimate role model!

He’s radical, funny, and, most importantly, doesn’t care for the media.

    Neither do I.

  11. Forget talking about how the Cards had a 3rd string QB that was shut down.

The talk should be how a pedestrian Hawk offense laid almost a 600 burger on a very solid D.

Tired or not, that was a behind the woodshed beat down of extreme proportions. A terrible franchise hasn’t given up that many yds since 1958.

Give Seattle props. They deserve it.

  12. Brain damage from too many concussions. Will anyone be shocked if he ends up in prison after his playing days are over?

  13. “Possibly the best run of the year and the article is about how the player should get fined. Why even watch football? SHM”

    This.Right.Here!!!!

Is Seattle defense still ridiulously celebrating routine tackles after 3 yrd gains?

    ===================================

You mean the Seattle defense that has given up only 6.6 points per game over the past 5 games, and the fewest points of any team in the NFL, just like they did last year?

  15. I doubt Lynch cares about a fine!

That was an epic run! It tore the game open. No doubt at that point Seattle was going to win.

For what it’s worth, though, I didn’t notice the crotch grab..?

  16. No one noticed? EVERYBODY NOTICED! That was one of the main jokes following beast quake and the narration of it by the madden commentator.

  17. The Hawks did just beat a third string QB, and their first string QB and the other SB team from last year and the Packers and the Eagles… I would like to see a Cowboys rematch. That is a toss up.

  18. Weird. All the comments before the game were that it didn’t matter that Lindley was playing because Seattle wasn’t going to be able to score on that vaunted (14th ranked) Cards defense. Now everybody wants to discard this absolute thrashing because the Cards are injured? You can’t use those excuses when you said the injuries didn’t matter before the game.

  19. Hello Hawks Fans, new to the board. Just watched the Hawks destroy the Cards with 596 total yards. Does anyone know the records for total team yards for the Seahawks? I can’t find it anywhere.

    Seahawks WILL repeat.

  20. You hawks haters are just blowhards. Yeah we crushed a third string QB tonight but the defense has crushed every QB. Brees, Brady, Rodgers, mannings. Allowing 6 pts a game the last five games. Against a combined opponents record of 47-16. That’s right look it up. I’m glad you all hate them, it’s gonna make it more fun to watch you eat your words. This team is historic whether you like it or not.

  21. “The cardinals were the most overrated football team in nfl history”

Dude they were playing with a 3rd string QB…..I’m pretty sure that anyone with 1/2 a brain knew they were losing today.

Not sure where you got over-rated from in this equation.

I’d be interested to have known how different their last few games and the playoffs would have been with Carson Palmer playing though.

  22. For all you Seahawk haters, it didn’t matter who was the Cardinals QB…. the Seahawk offense destroyed the third best defense in the NFL. The Seahawks top ranked defense would have held Carson Palmer to less than 35 points easily. Don’t forget that we missed 9 more points on missed field goals.

  23. All of you Cardinal fans that stand by the whole, “Seahawks beat a 3rd string QB” excuse, remember this, your defense wasn’t a 3rd string defense and that Seahawks put up 597 total offensive yards. That’s the most since 1958 against a Cards team. Ya, your offense was terrible, but your defense got their asses handed to them tonight, GO HAWKS!!!

  24. So dumb!!!

A fine for having fun during a GAME is stupid. There was no taunting even….just a backwards dive.

Signed a bitter Niner fan who is not biased by what fan base I belong to.

  25. Guys, you have it all wrong. He was trying to reach for his stomach to show that he was feeling better. He inadvertently snagged his manhood. Blame the media for blowing this up.

  26. The excuse fest from the Cardinals “fans” ( the ones that left the stadium en masse in the 3rd quarter?! ) is laughable.

Ryan was not playing defense, for those who had already moved over to watching 60 Minutes.

Losing hurts. Losing at home hurts worse. Losing 35-6 at home, with the division championship on the line must hurt in a profound way.

Facts speak loudly. This was yet another statement game by the defending league champions.

  27. .
Never mind Seahawks were wearing white Uniforms and Marshawn had the ball in his left hand when he went into the endzone…

and as I watch the preview of his touchdown, I just see his hand on his thigh…
but then again, I am not out to GET Marshawn cuz I am angry he answered questions with YEAH and didnt get fined.
    croc tears flowing….

  28. This win cannot be dumbed down by Cards fans crying “Big deal, the Hawks beat a 3rd string QB blah blah…” No. This win has everything to do with the Hawks OFFENSE beating the mighty Cards DEFENSE! The Cards defense was punched in the mouth and embarrassed on National TV.

  29. Everyone’s talking about the Hawks beating a 3rd string QB. Last I knew, QBs don’t play defense. Seattle didn’t score a single point when the Cardinal offense was on the field. All the scoring was done against the, arguably, #2 or 3 defense in the league.

  30. I have to hand it to Darrell Bevell for an excellent game plan. Best I’ve seen all season. He found all the Cardinal weaknesses on defense, and the execution was almost pitch perfect. As for Marshawn, he is the man!

  31. Pong, Lindley was awful. If Arizona had a halfway decent QB last night they might have made this game close. As it was it was a debacle. The Cards should have brought Kurt Warner out of retirement.

  32. I’m not by any means a Cardinals fan, but you Patriots..I mean Cowboys..sheesh, I mean Seahawks fans (Sorry, you all sound the same to me, ceaselessly arrogant, whiny and hypocritical when it comes to injuries) are cracking me up. You beat a third string QB who could not keep the offense on the field long enough to let the defense rest. The funny thing is that AZ’s WR’s were running wide open all through the first quarter. Every time Lindley Threw the ball it was way off target. So please, stop trying to convince the world this was “further proof” of some imagined dominance. I team with a better QB, like Dallas or GB, torches that D in the first half.

And Dallas already proved it can win at Jerry Springer filed in Seattle.

  33. pretty sure while the justice department investigating Rodg for his other deeds they will be checking out the legality and MORALITY of these fines,t hey are getting OUT OF CONTROL

unless every red cent is being given to charity this should be ILLEGAL, its EXTORTION!!

  34. Even in the midst of a “statement” victory, one that was no doubt very convincing the Seahawks find a way to show how little class they have.

A large fine and a playoff game suspension for Lynch are in order considering this is the second time he has done this.

Shame on you Mr. Goodell if you don’t.

  35. The Lynch that stole Christmas!

Quit crying about 3rd string QBs. He got over 200 yds passing, better than Kaepernick. He even threaded a pass by Sherman. The guy did as well as many 1st stringers. What about the vaunted defense of the Lards? The “superior” Peterson couldn’t do crap. They couldn’t stop Wilson, or Willson, from running circles around them. Face it. The best team won, hands down.

will seattle fans be praising lynch so much next year, when he’s playing for another team?
    ****************

This and other comments implying that Beast Mode is moving on are simply uninformed. Lynch is still under contract with the Seahawks for another year. He’s not going anywhere unless HE decides to retire or can’t play due to injury. The very idea of the Seahawks letting him go is ridiculous.

  37. Ha ha – I remember Hasselbecks comment to the press after the original Beastquake run:

“Good run – not sure but I think he injured his groin”

  38. You people stating Seattle played against a 3rd string QB are completely missing the point and are misguided. It’s far less about what Seattle’s defense did to a mediocre offense than it is what Seattle’s offense did to one of the best defenses (top 3) in the league…. in their own building.

  39. Going into this game,

    Seahawk defense power ranking #5
    Card’s defense power ranking #6

The Cards defense played against a patch-quilt Seahawk O-line and couldn’t shut them down. But nether could the last 4 high caliber defense teams the Seahawks played.

The Seahawks keep proven they are the ruling “SB” Champs, all roads go through Seattle

    Go Seahawks !!!!!

You mean the GB team that lost to Seattle in week 1? The same GB team that was shut down by Buffalo? Yeah, they’re real scary.

Love to see what the Cowgirls can bring if they meet up again in Seattle in January though.

Suspension? For a touchdown celebration that isn’t even flagged? Sure, ok buddy. Good luck with that.

43-8. Want to try again in February?

  42. He was so far ahead of everyone during that run that not only could no one tackle him but the rest of us were so mesmerized by his run that this “crotch grab” was only identified by forensic examination of the tape. LOL

I don’t care who they faced during those games. This season has been the very apex of “Parity”. So far this season we have had weak teams feasting on so-called better teams (example Dallas in Seattle).
Any streak of 5 or so games where the opposing offense barely averages a TD in the final score (rounding up for the benefit of devil’s advocate). is a great performance by any defense.
I’d say that if it wasn’t the Seahawks as well. Over the last decade or so the rules have been tightened to ensure that no one team dominates, yet Seattle won last season and is challenging again.

  44. The Cardinals had 80 yards to stop it from happening, I don’t think they get to complain. It’s not like he does it every TD. There’s a time and a place and that was one of them.
    Go Seahawks!
