Wild-card weekend lineup is set

The first four games of the 2014 postseason are set.  Sort of.

The final schedule hinges on the outcome of tonight’s game.  For now, here’s the format.

The postseason begins with the Panthers hosting the Cardinals at 4:30 p.m. ET, Saturday on ESPN.  On Saturday night, NBC will have the Steelers against someone; it’ll either be at home against the Ravens (if Pittsburgh beats the Bengals) or at Indy (if Cincinnati wins).

Sunday begins with a 1:05 p.m. ET game on CBS.  It’ll be Baltimore at Cincinnati or Cincinnati at Indianapolis.  Then, the weekend ends with the Lions visiting the Cowboys at 4:30 p.m. ET on FOX.

This incomplete (for now) schedule allows the Bengals to avoid a second straight short week, since they played on Monday night in Week 16.

  1. Lord Favre final pass was epic……right to Corey Webster.
Giants own Packers @ Lambeau in playoffs.

  2. If you have watched the games today, you will notice the refs are making more and more of an impact on the outcome In a few years once Roger is out, we’ll find out why refs keep getting more and more control of the game. It’s all about greed, ego, and money.

That would never happen, just ask the NBA. #NLF=WWE #THEFIXISIN

OH and the Bears are who we thought they were. Buh bye Trestman.

  3. Glad Lindley and the guys played very competitively today. Carolina’s no joke; they’re red hot right now. But…..we blew out the Panthers in the playoffs during our 2008-2009 playoff run, and we’re 2-0 against Cam Newton! Last time, we picked him off 3x and sacked him 7x. We’ll see if Stanton comes back: Go Cardinals!

    Cardinals 23 Panthers 16

  4. “why don’t the cardinals have next week off? nvm, they are who we thought they were”

they’re on their 14th string QB. do you watch the games?

  5. Seahawk fan…. the most pasty lame fans in all of sports… Nobody even knew Seattle had an NFL team until three years ago. Pathetic and now they are showing up on the road with their painting faces and beads. No wonder why they like the Sounders too.

Seahawks troll for sure. A team barely producing on offense WITH Russell Wilson healthy. No one else would hate on a team playing with a 3rd string qb and practice squad running backs. Most NFL fans of all teams have more class than Seahawks Bandwagoners. Follow Russell Wilson’s lead and act with some class every now and then Hawks trolls.

  7. Sucks that a team with a losing record gets in. How about pushing back wildcard weekend 1 week and have a playin game with the lowest seeded team playoff, regardless of division championship and highest ranked team, that missed out, for a shot to move on.

  8. I am not a fan of any of these teams. I wouldn’t want to play the Panthers right now. Talk about getting healthy and hot at the right time.

I couldn’t agree more. Seriously, the Seahawks fans have absolutely no professionalism, respect for the game, no respect for other teams, they don’t know what humble is and absolutely no winning with class. I can’t wait to see them lose so that all of you will disappear again. It’s like you’re all idiots and Sherman is your Royal leader.

  10. I just can’t stand how Seattle fans have a dozen excuses when they lose but when they beat up on a bad team or a banged up team wanna act like they’re the best team in the league and have a dozen reasons for why wins in those situations make the Seahawks great none of which make any sense and in fact contradict their excuses for why other teams beat them. I wouldn’t say classless so much as it is that none of em have been watching football very long and as soon Seattles “reign” is over they’ll change their screen name and troll for another team.

Im not a cowboys fan, but if they have the same record as the Seahawks and they beat them in the head-to-head matchup, why are they not seeded ahead of them?

Because Seattle, Green Bay and Dallas are in a three way tie so head to head goes out the window. It’s only conference record. I’m with you though – and I hate Dallas. But Dallas beat Seattle and Seattle beet Green Bay and somehow Dallas is seeded behind both of them.

  12. God Bless us and all our players.

And at that time God, please screw all our opponents and their coaches and trainers.

Thank you God. You area true sportsman!

    cowboys 8-4 in the conference

    Packers are 9-3

    seattle 10-2…..

  14. It seems silly to play all these games given that the Hawks are even better than last year and that team was the best team in the history of the NFL. Seahawks win 2 play-off games by 3 TD’s each and then annihilate the JV conference champs again– except this time with a shut-out to cement their place as the greatest dynasty in NFL history! Fait accompli.

  15. Nobody should take what fans write on sites seriously anyway. A lot of frauds just attempting to stir up trash.

Hawk fans are excited and we’ve sold out and had a nice home field advantage since the Kingdome days (80;s). For the newbies that act like our squad has only been relevant for a few years has already forgotten or just started watching the NFL because our squad was in SB40 and had a nice run from 2003 – 2007, so in the past decade we’ve been a contender.

Just enjoy the playoffs and try not to take what other Hawk fans say so personally. The city was starved for a dominant team (when we get a real WR, we’ll be unstoppable) and now that we waxed Denver in SB48 and have home field needing 2 W’s to get to SB49, fans suddenly come out in droves.

Have fun watching the NFL and everyone just chill. It’s entertainment so don’t let it raise your blood pressure.

Go Hawks…. Back to Back here we come.. Happy New Year…

  16. I’m sure the NFL and College Football playoff officials are breathing a HUGE sigh of relief right about now:

Had the Seahawks lost OR the Lions-Packers game ended in a five-quarter tie, the Cowboys would have had a first-round bye (and if the Lions-Packers game ended in a tie, the Cowboys would have actually been the #1 seed regardless of the outcome of Rams-Seahawks since the Cardinals lost) and it would have created a potential scheduling NIGHTMARE for the NFL due to A T & T stadium (Jerry World) hosting the College Football National Championship game on Monday, January 12. If the Cowboys had gotten a bye, you likely would have seen BOTH NFC Wild Card games on Saturday 1/3 and both AFC Wild Card games on Sunday 1/4 to avoid a scenario where whoever played the Cowboys in the Divisional Playoff doing so on four days rest. You likely would have had a rare FRIDAY NFL playoff game on January 9 if the Cowboys were hosting a Divisional Playoff game due to CFB Playoff Officials needing to get Jerry World ready for the national championship game, including switching the field to the one used for college football and removing all Cowboys-related items from inside the stadium in order not to offend those who are anti-pro sports on religious grounds (there are those who associate pro sports with gambling to where they won’t watch pro sports at all). Also, you likely will have people arriving at the Jerry World parking lot on Friday 1/9 for the game in RV’s (unique to college football that you don’t see in the NFL) and expecting to be park there as early as then.

The NFL may normally trump college football, but this would have been a rare case where a stadium conflict could have caused a huge playoff scheduling NIGHTMARE for the NFL had the Lions-Packers game ended in a five-quarter tie or the Seahawks lost because the CFB Champiosnhip had been long scheduled and Disney (televising that game on ESPN Monday 1/12) would never have allowed that game to be delayed even by an NFL playoff game.

  17. There is solid reasoning for not using Head to Head to break three way ties as happened with Seattle seeded above Dallas despite losing to them in the season. A round robin, circular paradox is created where Green Bay is above Dallas, Dallas above Seattle, and Seattle above Green Bay. This simply cannot be broken using the Head to Head tiebreaker, so they throw it out in favor of best conference record, then common opponents, etc. Personally, I think the most fair way to be reseeding after each game. That way if Dallas beats both Detroit and Green Bay, they would get the benefit of the Head to Head victory if they meet Seattle again in the NFC championship game.

  18. Pantherpro, I recall beating you guys back in 2005 on our way to our super bowl appearance….. maybe you’re more green than the colors that line our uniforms,or maybe the last 3 years of losses we’ve handed you at home are still making your head. Either way, shut up. Go cards. And do the rest of you, best of luck in the wildcard round.

  19. Kudos for the Ravens making the playoffs with all the injuries. I think more than 15 players went on the IR for them this year.
It is going to be a tough road going through Pittsburgh, but after watching last nights game I have “some” hope. The Steelers aren’t playing their best ball either.

    Go Ravens.

  20. COY???

Arians should be fired for not picking up a QB when Palmer went down. Did he really think this crew of QBs would win a SB?

Pryor, Mccown, Batch – there are many out there better than this group.

Instead he was too worried about his tough act and the whole “don’t let them change at your locker” BS.

Well guess what Arians, I know who WON’T be changing at your lockers.

  21. Too bad, I had hoped to see the wavers of the weenie washcloths dry their tears in Foxboro, but it looks like we’ll have to beat the Ravens again.
