Newton’s ankle sore after being stepped on

Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, who has battled plenty of injuries all year long, has another one.

Cardinals defensive end Calais Campbell stepped on Newton’s left ankle, the one that was surgically repaired in March.  (Unlike last Sunday’s notorious numb-footed leg step, this one was fully inadvertent.)

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Newton’s ankle was sore after the game, but he said he’ll be fine.

We’ll know more about how fine he is as the injury reports come out this week, as the Panthers prepare to face either the Seahawks or the Packers.
