Lions strike first with Golden Tate 51-yard touchdown

Lions receiver Golden Tate started today’s game by taking a huge hit. But it didn’t rattle him.

After the Cowboys went three-and-out on today’s first possession, Tate took a huge shot when returning the Dallas punt. But Tate was just fine, popped back up and got on the field for the Lions’ first offensive possession.

It wasn’t a long possession. It took the Lions just four plays to go 62 yards, thanks to Tate catching a deep ball from Matthew Stafford and racing to the end zone for a 51-yard touchdown.

The Lions, who haven’t won a playoff game since 1991, now lead 7-0. That last playoff win came against the Cowboys, who will need to play a lot better than they have in the first few minutes.

  1. If the Lions can shut the run game of the Cowboys down, and they very well could, all of a sudden things are different for the Cowboys this year, the ball will be in Romo’s hands in a playoff game.

  2. This is why the Hawks should have kept this guy.

He gets creamed by Spillman returning a punt, somehow didn’t fumble it, shakes it off, and scores a big touchdown to set the tone.

By the way, no offensive line gets away with holding more than Dallas.

  3. Things aren’t looking good so far and they’re being too predictable on first down.

  4. Dallas had their super bowl week 6 @ Seattle. Congrats on your week 6 super bowl Dallas.

  5. Cowboys coming out FLAT, Murray seems to be dinged up. The Cowboys better stop the skid or their will be pitch forks and torches waiting for them as they leave the stadium tonight.

  6. Cowboys were playing a lot more disciplined and focused the past few weeks than what they’re playing now but Stafford still has plenty of time to be Stafford.

  7. The Cowboys defense looked improved as the season went on because their running game kept them off the field.

If the Lions continue to stop the run, that defense will look exactly like it really is, like crap.

  8. just love when these safeties or whoever try to deliver a knockout blow on a tackle to make the highlight reel but dont wrap up. do they even teach tackling anymore? or just how to make espn highlights?

  9. Dallas D looking bush-league thus far. Should soon start getting shots of Jerry in his booth with that “I think I just ate some bad clams” look on his face. Gotta love it.

  10. 14-0 so far! Looks like the Clownboys showed up today instead of the Cowboys. Love how they blew that opportunity to hold the Lions by the incredibly boneheaded roughing the punter penalty, and the D can’t tackle anybody – not even Stafford on a scramble! Looks like the end of the line for Jason Garrett. Can’t imagine the carnage in Shea from Irving’s house right now.

  11. 14-0 now. Man, at this point, I just feel sorry for Tony Romo. Granted, he hasn’t done anything on the first two drives, but even if he does turn it on, that Cowboys defense is going to make sure they lose.

Forever destined to be remembered as a choker.

Who is worse than the Packers in the playoffs, Romo or Dalton?

I think u mean Super Bowls. Your hapless Vikes and the Bills is the answer. Well played. Oh, and congrats for finally getting out of the cellar for once, dishrag.

  13. Tony Romo threw up in his helmet when the Lions made that play. Soon he’ll be choking on his own vomit.

  14. Ha ha ha! I love it! All the trash so many of you were talking about Tate this week makes it that much more satisfying.
Hey bentedges what did you think of that first quarter?

  15. If they can’t do anything on this drive then they’re going to have problems the rest of the game. So far this isn’t the same Cowboys team I saw playing in December.

  16. This o-line has 3 all-pro’s huh? They are sucking badly and are going to get their QB carted of the field if they keep it up.

  17. @ariani1985,

I would say your vikings are worse, but they rarely ever make the playoffs.

Can you for once in your life go a day without thinking about the Packers? Daydreaming about greatness will drive you insane.

  18. #choke

Oh but this oline is so great! Please. Maybe they should’ve pulled their starters in the 2nd half last week. #karma

  19. Now this is more like it! 2 teams that deserve to be in the Playoffs! Not like that trash we all had to indoor yesterday at 1. Don’t get me wrong, the Cardinals deserved to be there. But not a 7-9 team, no way! Put a 7-9 team in the Playoffs? And have a practice squad QB playing for the Cardinals. Sprinkle in some horrendous Officiating= The NFL you just can’t trust, So you get what we had here yesterday, which is the way the NFL wants it, well he gets it!

  20. So uh…. where are all the Cowgirl fans that were talking trash this week? I thought y’all were going to beat the Seahawks in the NFCCG.

LOL! Cowgirls are the laughing stock of the NFL. Even the Lions are better in the playoffs.

ONE AND DONE. Enjoy watching the Seahawks win another Superbowl.

Will anybody with information on the whereabouts of Dez Bryant please contact Dallas Police?

    Now that’s funny right there!!!!

Murray seems to be dinged up

Shut down by one of the top run defenses in the league. What did you expect?

Well people were trying to convince me that Dallas line was going to “bulldoze” the Lions, I wasn’t buying it at all, I did expect some push though.

I think the all the touches, Murray got this year are catching up with him. It has been a while since Dallas played past week 17… I don’t think they are playing today, they were just on the schedule today.

Games not over yet and if Dallas loses then don’t the Panthers go to Green Bay and Detroit go to Seattle? With how Detroit is playing right now you may not want them next week.

  24. Nice to see the Ref’s keeping their flags in their pockets for a change! I’m sure the NFL heard about the flag issue all weekend. Finally, some pro-football for a change! This how a game should be officiated, granted the games not over yet. But great non-calls on both sides. Makes for watching football actually enjoyable. 👍

  25. Cowboys fan here.
