Loomis isn’t reducing his duties with the Saints

Loomis

The Jets would like to interview Saints director of player personnel Ryan Pace for the vacant G.M. job in New York. Like others before him (Ravens assistant G.M. Eric DeCosta and Vikings assistant G.M. George Paton), Pace may pass.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media is “hearing it’s unlikely” that Pace will accept the interview, explaining it’s more likely Pace gets promoted as Saints G.M. Mickey Loomis takes on more duties with the New Orleans Pelicans, the NBA team owned by Saints owner Tom Benson.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the last part of that is not accurate. Loomis remains entrenched as the G.M. of the Saints, resulting in no need to move anyone up to handle any of his duties.

That doesn’t mean Pace will leave. The current thinking is he’ll stay put.

Some view Pace’s candidacy as being connected to former Bills coach Doug Marrone, who likely will lobby for a G.M. he knows if he gets the job.
