Drew Brees replaces Ben Roethlisberger on Pro Bowl roster

Saints quarterback Drew Brees is headed back to the Pro Bowl.

Brees will replace Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger on the Pro Bowl roster, the NFL announced Friday. It’s unclear why Roethlisberger will not play in the league’s all-star game, but he did suffer a neck injury in Saturday’s wild card round loss to Baltimore.

This is the seventh consecutive season Brees has made the Pro Bowl and his ninth Pro Bowl nod overall. He completed 456-of-659 passes for 4,952 yards with 33 touchdowns and 17 interceptions in 2014.

The Pro Bowl will be played January 25 at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

  1. Just get rid of the pro bowl and turn it into a skills competition already. So many QBs pulls out (or are in playoffs), that eventually, EJ Manuel will be in the pro bowl. It is getting kinda silly quite honestly.

  2. Why do they allow the stars to lessen the prestige of being honored by dropping out? Players just use it to help each other get bonuses. How many would say no if their contract clause voids when they don’t show? I get that it is a meaningless sideshow of a “game” but if the players use it to gain more money via contract incentives they should have to play. I don’t see how taking away the bonus is any different than the guy that doesn’t get 100 catches because he got hurt in week 15.

  3. He can’t pass the concussion tests that he passed 3 plays after he had to leave the playoff game with the Ravens.

  4. Pats 1998 first rounder Robert Edwards rushed for 1,115 yards as a rookie. Blew out his knee at rookie flag football game during Pro Bowl week.
    Boom, done.
Convinced me the Pro Bowl has got to go.
    Have not changed my mind.

  5. WHO CARES the Pro Bowl has been a joke since Goodell put it between the last playoff game & super bowl!!! At least when it was after the Super Bowl everyone that played could get a vacation & the season lasted 1 more week!!! Boycott that too!!!

  6. Reports immediately after the playoff game indicated Ben needed his knee “cleaned up,” which is minor surgery but surgery nonetheless.

@deepbacksidedig: I remember Robert messing up his knee in that sandpit and he got some kind of settlement. Still, what a bad break for him Wonder what he is doing now.

Be shocked if Bell plays with his knee. What’s the point?

  7. He didn’t make it through talent, he was awful this year. I guess he’s the next best thing behind big Ben.

  8. Post it right. Saints were 7-9. And Brees actually didn’t suck this year. He tied Ben for most yards in NFL, broke two records and made NFL history. He finished in Top 5 of all QBs this year.

If that sucks, I’ll take it!!

The saints were 6 and 10.
It doesn’t take a whole lot of effort to use google.

    The Saints were 7-9 Einstein.

  10. You mean a 70% passer with only almost 5,000 yards? They must let anybody in the pro bowl.

  11. Not his best year, still threw almost 5,000 yards and 33 TD’s. I know a lot of you people wish he was on your team so shut your mouth, you can’t touch Drew Brees son.

  12. Is it just me or didn’t drew get this same injury invite to the pro bowl last year. I wonder if he will use this in negotiations when the saints try to get him to reduce his salary. Drew you are in every other commercial on Sunday’s I know you can afford to cut your team some slack so they can rebuild your O line and give you one last shot at making a playoff run. Or you can continue to take all that money and have the leaky o line result in constant pressure which every one knows leads to you leading the league in picks. That sounds a lot crappier of an option to me but what do I know.

  13. This would be good……

  14. Replacement players don’t get pro bowl bonuses from their contract if not named on first squad

  15. How sad for all of the other more deserving QBs in the league. Are you kidding me? Brees had one of worst years. More interceptions than I could count, missed the playoffs. Wow.

  16. Joke Bowl and All Joke nominations mean diddly all.

You have inept voters like Lofton voting James Carpenter All Pro and then people like Boomer who crave attention and drop that they are one of the All Pro voters on television so that people will retroactively make him more relevant.

Have the HC, OC, and DC vote for All Pros. They do this for a living and are the ones best suited to make the calls.

  17. They should play the Pro-Bowl 2 weeks after the Super Bowl & pay the NFC/AFC winners & not pay the losers. That would then bring national interest to the game, the best players could all play & everyone involved would be trying to actually WIN.

  18. What a waste of fan time! I have never watched more than a few plays if that. Having award ceremony for best in position should be enough. I am tired of Manning, Breeze, even Rodgers commercials. They are all annoying. Brady should be all over the place, but he doesn’t need the cash. Concentrate on the game. That’s. Why pats will win Sb.
