Patriots come back, beat Ravens

AP

Shaking off a sluggish start, the New England Patriots came back to beat the Baltimore Ravens in a great NFL playoff game and advance to the AFC Championship.

The Patriots fell behind 14-0 in the first quarter and trailed 28-14 in the third quarter, but three second-half touchdown passes gave New England a 35-31 win, a dramatic victory in front of a frigid but faithful New England fan base.

Tom Brady shook off some early struggles and finished the game 33-for-50 for 367 yards, with three touchdowns and one interception. Joe Flacco, who has received so much praise for the way he plays in the postseason, threw four touchdown passes but threw the second of his two interceptions of the game late in the fourth quarter, sealing Baltimore’s fate.

The game ended on a Hail Mary attempt by the Ravens after Bill Belichick mismanaged the clock and had Tom Brady kneel on the ball even though the Patriots couldn’t run out the clock, but the Hail Mary fell incomplete.

For the Patriots, Rob Gronkowski had a big game, with 108 receiving yards, and Danny Amendola scored two touchdowns, including one on a well-designed trick play that had receiver Julian Edelman throwing the pass. The win gave Bill Belichick his 20th postseason victory, tying Tom Landry for the most in NFL history.

It was a back-and-forth battle and a great game, but a game in which the Patriots showed themselves to be the superior team. The AFC Championship Game will be in New England in eight days. The Patriots will be a tough team to beat. Even if they fall behind early.

I’m starting to believe this “January Joe,” “Playoff Joe” stuff. Wow.
    ——————————————————————

I’m no Pats fan by any means, but umm interception 1:39 left in the 4th. You forgot there’s four quarters, not two. Chalk it up to a lesson learned haha

  2. Joe just went FLACCID on that potential GW drive. Now just 2 of 6 in those situations.

  3. I dont know what game you were watching. I was just thinking the Ravens get away with so much that its comical. Goodbye Ravens. Payback for last week. Congrats Pats!

  4. I am anticipating the sweet nectar of another week of Pats haters tears and cries of horror.

Great game a Ravens fans! That was a hell of an effort and hey, at least you got to knock the Steelers out as a consultation prize!

  5. The Ravens are an embarrassment to Maryland. That’s why the Redskins are the only King in this region in terms of winning and coverage. The Ravens might as well be an MLS Club. LOL Ravens. #ThankGodImaREDSKINSfan

  6. “I’m no Pats fan by any means, but umm interception 1:39 left in the 4th. You forgot there’s four quarters, not two. Chalk it up to a lesson learned haha”

I saw Torrey Smith give up on the play.

but- Tom Brady is simply the greatest ever…..over came a bad int in first half…

great game…Patriots gonna win the Super Bowl…
    haters- grow up, appreciate greatness……

The Patriots are just amazing…always in it. 2 fluke plays from going for their 6th title this year

  9. Great Game! That is what makes football the best game in America. All great respect to the Ravens’ players and their coaches! Awesome job by the Patriots! Way to go guys!!

As for the haters I don’t want to hear about spygate and cheating. Enough is enough! Great game again by both teams! Enjoy the win tonight Patriots and let’s get ready for the AFC Championship Game!!!

Report comment. You must have been watching a different game…oh wait I forgot who you were….a troll.

  11. Would have liked to see Le’Veon Bell against the Ravens might have been a different game. Brady will not be able to win Super Bowl without a run game.

Patriots against Seahawks in Super bowl.

  12. Hey, no crying from this Raven fan. Pats played a little better and holding the Ravens to a FG instead of giving up the TD was huge. Well deserved, but certainly disappointing. Best of luck, Pats/fans.

  13. What a sweet CLASSIC. Great, classic game for Patriots. Congrats to the 2014 Baltimore Ravens for a great AFC wild card season. Patriots WILL host AFC Championship Game. Join them for Championship Wednesday, where you’ll hear Patriots players talk about the AFC title game at 12pm-5pm on NFL Network.

  14. I now believe that these games are fixed. The Pats got away with so much that it’s comical.

    ********

Funny you say that. I hate both teams and I think the Ravens are the ones who got away with a lot!

  15. What a game!

Say what you want but the Ravens, with a ton of injuries and a far less talented roster (in my opinion), came into Foxboro and pushed New England to the brink. Great effort by a well coached tough team.

Tip of the hat to Baltimore and their fans.

    See what you started, PFT?

  17. Fun game to watch. Now for “Sleeping in Seattle-How the Panthers 2014 Season Ended”. Please prove me wrong Carolina.

  18. Would’ve liked the hold on Revis on 3rd and goal, that Field Goal was the difference in the game. But overall it was an evenly officiated game.

Tom Brady in the end came through like Tom Brady does, and Flacco became his mortal self in the 4th.

  19. I love that Harbaugh got an un-sportsman like penalty for running on the field during a play to help New England get a TD. He and his brother do that all the time and the flag was the right thing to do.

Great game and the “best QB in the NFL” threw two costly picks just as I had hoped he would.

The Ravens are a tough, good team and they played a whale of a game today, but you can’t take anything away from Tom Brady. He is a great QB and that TD he threw to win the game was a great pass.

I am not a Pats fan, but anytime either of the Harbaugh brothers lose I’m happy.

Woo woo! No more Harbaughs in the playoffs! Now if the Packers can get rid of Jerruh Jones, it’ll have been a great weekend!

  20. @crawdaddy you worm. Joe was the sole leader on this team tonight. If he had any support from the run game or defense, this would have been a blow out. BTW, how’d the steelers divisional game go?

  21. The Ravens load the box to stop the run, act real tough, and then concede 6 to 8 yard passes all game long? I guess if you want to claim your tougher that makes sense, but it seems like losing football to me.

  22. @tokyosandblaster , then you won’t be watching any more football games or commenting here any more. Bye!

  23. And this is why Tom Brady is elite and Joe Flacco is not. Flacco has had some good runs in the past but Brady is in it every damn year. He’s had more postseason wins and TDs then any other quarterback. Brady is also the most selfless quarterback in the league as he let Julian Edelman get his shot at quarterbacking.

  24. I know everyone will put this game on flacco, and he deserves some blame, but Torrey Smith did NOTHING to earn a new deal. I’m not saying that last throw definately wouldn’t have been picked, but if he fights for it, there is a very good shot it will be broken up. I’m not trying to berate Torrey because he is a great person and a class act, he just doesn’t have that warrior mentality like Anquan or Steve Smith have.

The secondary did as expected, which was poorly and was the main reason the Ravens lost. Even before Jimmy Smith got hurt this year, the depth was very thin. Ozzie who is normally great with these things, didn’t go out and get any decent Dbs who can be serviceable other than Will Hill. You can’t win the AFC going up against Brady Manning Luck without a good secondary and the Ravens didn’t have that. There really isn’t anything to say about that.

  26. Joe Flacco is great. But Tom Brady is Tom Brady. This was the best game well see this whole postseason.

  27. Man, do the Ravens ever play the Pats tough.

Its 1:10 in the morning here in England but there’s no way I can sleep yet. My heart is still pounding.

That was an epic game!! Well played Ravens you gave the Pats serious fits tonight.

  28. I’ve said this game will decide on who makes the biggest mistakes and Ravens sure made a crucial mistake to lose the game. Flacco, I don’t understand why he attempted that throw in the end. Even if they didn’t convert that play they have two more shots to get another 1st down. Big mental error by Flacco.

  29. I can’t blame Joe flacco on his 2 hail marries. One was slightly over thrown and the other out of the receivers grasp. Good fight Baltimore. Now to a bigger question:
WHAT THE HELL WAS GOODELL DOING THERE ??????
Could the ravens have losghe game as revenge for ruining goodells public image??????

  30. Tokyosandblaster….are u kidding me? You’re a Packers fan, your team gets more calls than anyone. What a crock!

  31. If the fix was in, it was in for the Ravens to win. Every call went the Raven way. No holding calls against the, that was a Lacco fumble, not an incomplete pass, two calls on Revis, etc. The Pats had to defeat the Ravens AND the refs.

  32. Bad play-calling by Gary Kubiak. Why are you chucking it deep when the running game has pretty consistently worked all night? Seemed like the Ravens were looking to the refs for another bailout.

  33. As a Ravens fan, congrats to the Pats for the come-from-behind victory. I thought the officiating was great and both teams came with their “A” games tonight.

It was a fun game to watch, even though my favorite team lost.

  34. Interesting that Harbaugh get a penalty for coming into the field when Bryant gets a pass last week. Further proof the NFL/refs have their favorites/marching orders?

  35. Oooooftah. I’m watching the pre game for the Seattle game. They just did the sideline report with Pam Oliver…I just don’t understand how somebody can ask the same question and get the same answer over, and over, and over, and over…and not get sick of it. Did you know the Seahawks just want to win this game and had a great week of practice? Well now you do. Am I cranky? You shut up.

  36. Baltimore is a very good team

    Glad Pats won

Let’s hope for another cold day next week

As an aside NFL is turning into women’s lacrosse Replays Replays Replays and too many Damm flags Just let them play for goodness sake. This is what happens when a lawyer runs the league

  37. BTW — anyone who blames the refs for the Ravens losing is just wrong. The Ravens blew two 14 point leads and they have no one to blame but themselves.
It’s why the Pats are who they are. They can get pushed around for 99% of the game, but they still find a way to win.
Hats off to both teams for one of the greatest playoff games in years. Both teams should be very proud of how they played today.
I’m a Packer fan and I enjoyed the heck out of that game. It was a very physical game by two very tough teams.
I thought before the game which ever team won would represent the AFC in the Super Bowl. I just don’t think much of the Colts and I think Peyton Manning has been showing his age.
Congratulations to the Pats and Ravens for playing a great game.

That loss is not on Flacco. He was very good. I’m a Pats fan and have respect for Flacco, Harbaugh, and Baltimore. They gave the Pats all they could handle. Great game and all Pats fans should let out a breath of relief. I knew this was coming.

  39. Low Joe Flacco AKA Jump Ball Joe AKA Joey Underthrown…HA! Yeah, he might have a great postseason record, but he only has one ring to show for it. As I have stated on this site before, Rahim Moore, Anquan Boldin, Jacoby Jones (the ‘real’ SB XLVII MVP) and every defensive player he’s ever played with deserve Xmas cards from him every year. Tainted win again for NE Revis held the WR jersey and that call was made all year but not today WHY??
    ================================
There were bad calls both ways just like in any game. To open the second half, Gronk was being held, interfered, you name it and nothing was called. The difference was the two interceptions and the gimmick play. Great game.

  43. That was a hell of a game Baltimore both teams played well today and I’m proud to say the Patriots are moving on to the next round. Go Pats!!!

  44. Congrats Pats! You survive in a subpar division, get a bye week and got the AFC championship or Super Bowl where you can no longer win cus you can’t cheat anymore! Good luck!

  45. @rhemish

“Tainted win again for NE Revis held the WR jersey and that call was made all year but not today WHY??”

    Um, it WAS called.

  46. That was a great game. But I don’t see why Joe Flacco had to go for the deep throw with still 2 minutes left to go in the game. What was the rush?

A lot better start to the games this weekend than last weekend though.

  47. Hey, did ya hear????

    Tom Brady is washed up!!!!!!

    A game for the ages!!!!

I knew the Ravens would be tough, but this game was INCREDIBLE!!!!!

Joe Flacco throws FOUR touchdowns, and LOSES!!!!!!!

And the Pats came from 14 back, TWICE, with the refs trying their hardest to steal this for the Ravens!!!!!

    New England is simply AWESOME!!!!!

    SUCK IT, haters!!!!!!

  48. That was just brutal.

Feeling a bit lucky as a Pats fan.
Game started like 2009, felt like a loss. momentum must have shifted five times. Normally i get a feel for a game, win/loss?
Not this one, to the last second.
So many plays, moments that turned it, so many more that came just this close to opening it up.
Great game, classic as folks have said.
Then brady, calmly in the postgame talking like “we meant to do that”
    Heh.
Now i need to stop to breathe again.
    Unreal.

See what you did there? Time for a new screen name.

  50. Harbaugh is a great coach, and his team is tough and built for the playoffs.

To me the game turned when tied 28-28 the Ravens ran it down NE’s throat all drive, then inexplicably started throwing into the end zone instead of sticking with what was working.

As for the Patriots, their halftime adjustments seemed to mitigate the Raven’s pass rush and allowed them to throw easy passes for almost the entire second half.

  51. To the people getting on Flacco… are you kidding? He just went on the best run in postseason history (17 TDs 0 INTS). Torrey gave up on that deep interception. Their defense lost the game.

  52. Props to the Ravens. I didn’t think they could hang with New England for four quarters. Should have known better. That said, good freakin’ riddance. And Denver? You’re toast.

The “best defense NE has had in 10 years” didn’t look very good today.

Yet good enough to take care of your team and that noodle arm QB

  54. Fantastic game, one of the best I’ve ever seen. It will be on ‘NFL’s Greatest Games’ for years to come. I would say that win or lose. In fact I was wrong. I thought the Pats were a much better team. Not so. That’s a tough Raven FB team. Well coached, although I don’t know if was rust or if the Pats scheme doesn’t bother covering wheel routes to FBs. Still, Brady and Belichick once again solidified their legacies as among the GOAT.

Ref whiners and cheater refs need not apply. Not remotely interested.

  55. Collinsworth said the difference between a field goal and a TD could be the difference in the game.

    It was.

Good job Ravens on scaring the stuff out of Patriots fans. You’re the best AFC team they’ll play all playoffs.

  56. I’m starting to believe this “January Joe,” “Playoff Joe” stuff. Wow.

well, you have to hand it to him, he is pretty good. unfortunately(for him) his ‘jump ball joe’ personal also reared his head. he’s complicated…

    —————–#—–

Lol ok, we didn’t have our #1 corner this year and the secondary overall was decimated, so Brady hasn’t beat a good Baltimore team either I guess. . .

Seriously though, trolls aside, great game NE your QB was clutch as always and the Ravens just fell a tiny bit short.

The playoff series is now 2-2 with 2 classic games.

  58. Flacco has absolutely beaten several good patriots teams. Unless you’re calling afc championship game teams bad. He was a dropped pass away from being 3-0 against pats teams at their absolute best. Fact!

  59. As a Broncos fan I really wanted the Ravens to win today. But this will just make it sweeter when the Broncos beat the Patriots at Foxboro Stadium next weekend.

  60. Great game won by the offense of the Pats and list by the secondary of my Ravens. Because of the pedestrian DB’s and even the coaches by allowing the dink and dunk by the Pats to get them into position to score time and time again. Great game plan by the Pats by exposing the 10 yard cushion on 3rd and 3 that the secondary plays. Great season by a shirt handed Ravens team.

  61. Notice how Brady shook hands with Flacco and others at the end of game. When they lose he runs off the field and Flacco would have been by himself. I’ve never seen an NFL hall of fame QB that is such a baby and sore loser. You would think as he ages he would get some respect for the game….he has no class.

  62. Well played game for both teams Flacco played well loss shouldn’t be blamed on him. Wish the Bengals had him over Dalton he actually shows up come playoff time.

  63. As a Ravens fan, this is a heartbreaker. Really entertaining game to watch. Congrats to the Pats and their fans, definitely a great team. Best of luck the rest of the way.

Really looking forward to next year. Hopefully we can have another strong draft, and get Jimmy Smith, Ricky Wagner, Dennis Pitta, Asa Jackson, and find a WR. Let Torrey Smith walk if he wants more than WR3 money, he just isnt worth it.

Hoping, very badly, that Amari Cooper, Gordon, Kevin Whiet, DeVante Parker can somehow find a way on the Ravens. Trading up to get Cooper would be a dream.

But again, congrats to the Pats. Unreal how good Brady is.

  64. It seems like New England vs Seattle in Arizona for the Super Bowl.

Prediction: Low scoring game- Seattle over New England 27-20

Super Bowl MVP – Marshawn Lynch

  65. I see Spygate was out in full force today. It’s absolutely revolting what the Patriots are able to get away with at home. I AM OUTRAGED.

If the NFL is not going to do anything about the Patriots cheating, I think it’s time we intelligent fans start writing the league;s sponsors and tell them we will not be buying any of their products as long as they’re associated with a league that supports spygate and a team that cheats.

Maybe that will make them listen. Who’s with me?

  66. Wow Al Michaels has lost a step! Had game over without looking at how much time was left. And the genius Belichick…I mean why not have Brady take a couple steps back on 1st through 3rd downs then have punter run around end zone and take safety? Even if there’s one second left on clock you just punt out of bounds from 20. Dumb and dumber!

  67. tokyosandblaster says: Jan 10, 2015 8:05 PM

    ——————————-
This ur typical Packer fan wanting the lombardi handed to them and wanting all the heavyweights in nfl eliminated. Did the samething last week w cowboys. Sorry GB uve got ur work cut out for you.

  68. Wow.

I don’t know what Flacco changes come the playoffs. Does he change his brand of breakfast Wheaties or something? Holy crap is he a different player in the playoffs.

His last interception, though, was prime “Jump Ball Joe” style. It wasn’t really his fault though, since Smith kind of just stopped playing.

Either way, that was an edge of the couch game right to the last second. Both times Baltimore was up by 14, I was crying the whole “Again, guys? Seriously?”. Only with a lot more swearing involved, lol.

The Pats D was so weird. They were weak and effortless until 14 down, then all of the sudden they stiffened up and let the O catch up. Then they went flat again… Until 14 down again, then held them until the O caught up again. I was screaming at the tv to just keep playing, not slack off just because the Offense was able to keep coming back. It was ridiculous. I really hope the coaches hammer at it over the next week.

Finally, go Edelman! What a throw!

  69. Steeler trolls wait a week to come out. Typical.

Congrats Pats. If we had a secondary, we would have moved on. Oh, well.

  70. bucrightoff says: Jan 10, 2015 8:07 PM

Perfect throw by Brady on the TD. Underthrow by Flacco on the pick. One is elite and one is not.

    ————————————————————–
Brady underthrew Gronkowski, was it, by about 5 yards.

Also, regardless of HOW an interception is thrown, one doesn’t count against you any more than the other one.

The Ravens pass rush fell off after the half and that allowed Brady to sit back and dissect our secondary.

They still held their own with the other team who was the #1 seed, while we barely snuck into the playoffs.

Next year, guys. We’ll get it.

  71. It’s clear that the Ravens were outcoached. Don’t worry, Ravens, you’ll be in the playoffs next year. With the Bengals likely to stink up the joint in the playoffs, the Ravens and Steelers are the class of the AFC North.

  72. Congrats Pats! You survive in a subpar division, get a bye week and got the AFC championship or Super Bowl where you can no longer win cus you can’t cheat anymore! Good luck!

Awesome post from the flower of Ravens fandom. Nice to see the Ravens fanbase giving the Pats so much credit, especially coming back from two 14 pt deficits. That’s why you guys are the best fanbase in FB, like everyone says. Are golf courses open in Balti in January?

  73. Flacco has absolutely beaten several good patriots teams. Unless you’re calling afc championship game teams bad. He was a dropped pass away from being 3-0 against pats teams at their absolute best. Fact!

    He’s 2-2 now.

  74. Ravens are Pat’s boogeyman. So grateful they managed to exorcise that one….I see them not having that issue with whomever they play next.
On paper, this game shouldn’t have been that close. Hats off to Ravens. This was one game where the Pats did not get a home town ref. Gronk was blatantly interfered on one play…that was a killer as it allowed the Ravens to punch one in before half. Really liked how the Pats responded being down 14…many teams choke or press too hard when down that much.

    Let’s cry some more…..

  77. Harbaugh abandoned what had kept them in the game. They were doing well mixing up the runs with the passes and then he put it in Flacco’s hands and there went the game.

  78. Can’t say the refs were helping NE when they don’t call PI on that Gronk 3rd down play and over-rule what looked like an Amendola catch early in the game.

That was football as it is meant to be played and coached.

  79. Just an absolute epic, classic NFL Playoff game. Team allegiances aside, let’s just salute both teams for 3.5 hours of awesome entertainment. Ravens fans have nothing to be ashamed of. Great rival. But too much Tom Terrific. Back to the AFC Championship Game for the 9th time in 13 years Brady has started. Unreal.

  80. Tough to see New England win, but it’s always good to see Baltimore lose.

Bah! It was a great game, actually. Glad for no injuries. Best of luck going forward, you maniacs!

  81. Kudos to both teams, what a show. Tom Brady was marvelous in the face of adversity all day long.

  82. Shula. Eat Crow.
Great game. I have a lot more respect for the Ravens and especially Flacco after this game. Harbaugh too.

That said, to all the trolls and spy haters
Brady- Most playoff passes by any QB in history.
Brady- Most playoff wins by any QB in history.
Belichick- Tied for Most playoff wins by any coach in history.

Talk about spy gate and you are just jealous. Pure and simple.

    Pure and simple.

  83. easternshoresfinest, the Ravens had almost 140 rushing yards, Patriots had 14. I think Joe had enough run support.

The defense had a secondary in shambles and got shredded. They couldn’t contain Gronk, and they really wasn’t tested thru the regular season.

This game was closer then it should’ve been but the result is what just about everyone thought.

  84. Those were 2 best teams in AFC.

Thought Patriots were flat for good portion of 1st half. Seems like clinching early and resting people causes teams to lose their edge.

  85. Worst defensive coaching job EVER, EVER by Belichick. Harbaugh and the Ravens deserve a lot of credit.

  86. This Ravens loss probably hurts badly than the 2011 AFC Championship game meltdown. The Lee Evans-Billy Cundiff plays on that cold, January day was heartbreaking and it was probably the end to the Ravens’ window. (at that time). But, the Ravens won Super Bowl XLVII in 2012. Stay positive, Ravens. You’ll represent the AFC soon.

  87. Can’t run the ball, can’t win the Super Bowl. Predictable as next days forecast. Don’t know how the Ravens lost this one. This one is on the coaches.

  88. That was probably the best NFL game I have seen this season…and I’m so glad the Pats pulled it out but it took everything they had to do it. I would hate to watch a game reffed by all of the people talking about “missed calls” and the patriots “getting away with so much”, that game would take forever because they obviously don’t know the game. And PFT proves to me everyday that 90% of fans don’t know what spygate was because if they did they wouldn’t bring it up because their team did the same thing.

  89. Baltimore’s defensive line and offensive line did a great job tonight. Pat’s offensive line did well enough, Stork loss created problems, but Brady got the ball out quickly. Pat’s D line, linebackers, and secondary was not good enough to win the super bowl, will have to do better. Great game, all time classic. Congrats to Baltimore for always being tough in the playoffs.

  90. a game for the ages ? this game was FIXED ! The NFL wants NE in THE SB . They make these games look good for the ratings and entertainment . Kraft has lots of power in the League office . he fixed the ” Tuck Game ” because no one wanted the Raiders in the SB after 9/11. The NFL is becoming like the WWE . They got what they wanted a Brady Manning AFC title game . tell the truth Florio .

  91. Hats off to the Ravens, they played a great game. If I didn’t have a shaved head, I’d have been pulling my hair out. As far as the Refs, they blew calls both ways, and didn’t really affect the outcome of the game. Really great game to watch, and happy that the Pats won. Hold your heads up Ravens, you always play the Pats tough.

  92. The Ravens deserved to lose for playing that soft zone the entire 2nd half. If they were my team, I would rather lose by getting beat in coverage rather than not even trying to cover. Was Leslie Frazier their defensive coordinator today?

  93. Seatt defense will dominate Brady just like Peyton last year I can’t wait to see NE. Lose for the third time in a row since they got caugh CHEATING belicheat I love it. Call a spade a spade good for you Don Sula truth hurts NE Waaaaaaaa. Even Brady said he fumbled in the tuck tule game everything you do is TAINTED

  94. Spy gate was so BAD the NFL BURNED the evidence and wouldn’t let the fans even see it that pretty tells everybody how bad it was why hide the truth

  95. Hey you trolls (logicalvoice, vancouver, realitycheck coltsreign, ravensdominate et al) the only thing greater than the game is your pettiness, everybody sees you, it’s so sad

  96. What an amazing game. I don’t know how you say the refs gave this to the Patriots, they actually took away two Flacco fumbles (including a 2-handed drop/”incomplete pass” with no passing motion involved whatsoever).

The Patriots and the Ravens should play 6 times a year.

  97. Classic QB duel. 119 and 130 QB ratings. Very little defense. Kinda pathetic at times. Ravens were playing these guys off the street in the secondary. Thought the Pats were a little tougher than that defensively. They might be in trouble next week.

  98. Lets be real. The ratbirds lucked out last week by not to have Le’veon Bell play and Big Ben and the oline performed awful because of it. He is that big of a part for the steelers o. The ravens needs to thank their lucky stars they even advanced a game. The ratbirds for whatever reason always match well against the pats so because of it you had a game. The ravens were never a threat to win it all lol.

  99. “a game for the ages ? this game was FIXED ! The NFL wants NE in THE SB . They make these games look good for the ratings and entertainment.”

No tears please, it’s a waste of good suffering.

  100. Hats off to the Ravens. Really took it to my Pats. Hats off to all the well behaved fans…

And on a lesser note: haters heads everywhere explode…

  101. I think I jinxed the Ravens – I said NE looked beatable when it was 28-14. Oh my! Sorry Ratbird fans.

And just when Flacco was looking elite, he starts looking like early career Flacco. Two picks and don’t forget the fumble that was wiped out by the penalty and the trip and forward pass that was oh so close to being a classic Flacco miscue.

A great game though – both teams should be pleased with how they played. That was a classic tilt. Fun to watch!

  102. I’m no Pats fan but you got to hand it to Brady. The Ravens knew he was going to throw every time but still couldn’t stop him. Well at least my wife is happy.

Suggs didn’t make the Pro Bowl. Did him and Dumervil even play?

    ——————————————

Yeah, he took a page out of Suh’s playbook and kneed Brady in the helmet when Tom was down. After all Suggs’ pre-game trash talk, he showed himself to be a big fat zero come game time.

This has become one of the league’s best rivalries.
    ——————————————————————–
It is. The Patriots-Ravens are one of the greatest rivalries next to the Steelers-Ravens, Patriots-Colts, Seahawks-49ers, Packers-Bears, Broncos-Texans, and Patriots-Broncos.

  105. I HATE! Flacco and Ravens but gotta hand it to them and especially flacco. He is really incredible in the playoffs an absolute beast. That one pass really ended it but to me that’s more play calling than anything. The run game was working not sure why they didn’t stick with mixing it up

  106. Helluva game! Never expected my Ravens to get this far w 19 guys on IR & both OT out. Disappointed w the loss, but DAMN what a game!!!! Proud of their effort. Congrats Pats fans. Your team deserved the W today. Classic battle.

  109. My Ravens played a great game but in the end wasn’t enough.

Tom Brady is the greatest of all time.

I would have liked to see Torrey Smith try a little harder to defend those two picks though.

Rooting for NE the rest of the way, not because they beat us, because Brady and Belicheck are the smartest football people of our time.

I see Spygate was out in full force today. It’s absolutely revolting what the Patriots are able to get away with at home. I AM OUTRAGED.

Know what’s funny? This guys actually a Patriots fan pretending to be a troll for kicks. I think he’s looking for the dislike record or something.

  111. No tougher out than the Ravens. Still having trouble figuring out how they lost six games. Great team.

Denver sitting in Colorado knowing they have to deal with the Colts and if all goes well, travel to Foxboro.

Meanwhile, the Patriots watch film and scheme.

  112. Man what a game!!
Ravens played one heck of a game for sure… Congrats on a great season!!!
    Go pats!!!!!

  113. NE áll I can say is how bout them New York Giants 2 huge CHOKES by Brady if you can’t CHEAT you don’t win FACT….. Undefeated season and LOSE SB no bigger choke in the history of the NFL

  114. MDS:
“The game ended on a Hail Mary attempt by the Ravens after Bill Belichick mismanaged the clock and had Tom Brady kneel on the ball even though the Patriots couldn’t run out the clock, but the Hail Mary fell incomplete”

Assuming Belichick mismanaged clock? you can run three plays into the line or take 3 kneel downs, same net effect but the kneel down is by far lower risk of turnover. The Patriots had a 4 point lead even even with a fair catch the Ravens would have had 10 seconds to score a TD.

You owe Belicheck an apology (and perhaps edit your posts), as he knew exactly what he was doing and made the best decision to win the game

  115. Don’t really like either team, but glad that the Pats won. Sick of these teams that barely sneak into the playoff going on these incredible runs (Ravens, Giants). It cheapens the regular season and home field advantage. The Ravens beat 1 team with a winning record in the regular season (Steelers). They looked horrible down the stretch and were lucky to be in the playoffs.

  116. Yes a sponsor boycott may be in order to force Bud Selig to order the cheating in Foxboro to stop. We intelligent fans will stop the boycott and the campaign once Bud Selig does his job and STOPS THE CHEATING.

After Peyton manning (a REAL MAN’S QB) puts up 100 on the Patriots next week, commissioner Selig should fold the Patriots team immediately. The NFL would be better off for it. All of us intelligent fans would applaud that move.

Spygate is the worst thing that ever happened in the history of sports. HANDS DOWN. They can’t be allowed to get away with it. Do the right thing Mr. Selig.

  117. That was a stressfull game to watch as a Pats fan, so glad they pulled it out so I can exhale.

Much respect to the classy, gracious Ravens fans in here, your team played great and will definitely be a factor in the league for the forseeable future.

  118. Mmmmm all you haters, your tears are delicious and sustain us. Keep them coming.

As for everyone else, Ravens played a great game and a tip of the hat to them. They get their corners back healthy next year and they’re going to be a great defense. Look forward to playing them again next year

  119. Good game by both teams. Good luck pat’s the rest of the way.
Ravens hold your heads up had a good season.see ya next year.

  120. IMO the burden of proof was on the patriots to show that they can reach those levels of mental resilience, the ravens were already there, congrats to their fans. Now i think this generation of patriots players can finish the job, they can overcome adversity.

  121. That was a fun game to watch. I guess Suggs and Dumerville played their Super Bowl last week against the Steelers, since they were invisible today.

Anything can happen in the NFL. Frankly the Ravens lucked out to get in the playoffs by barely beating the Browns with a third string QB and KC upsetting SD with a backup QB. Then the Steelers lose their MVP that was responsible for over 22 football fields of yards, which clearly helped the Ravens win last week.

In the end, only one team wins the Super Bowl, the rest lost. Trolls can criticize the Steelers all they want, most of them are also watching other teams play now too. The Steelers won the AFC North when most predicted them to finish third or fourth in the division, and get a higher draft pick than the Ravens. See you next season.

And at the half Carolina is only down by 4. Seattle isn’t who we thought that they were.
    ——————————————————
Sir, they play two halves and the better team usually asserts itself after adjustments are made.

This is why coaching staffs are so critical.

  123. So sick of hearing how Brady is the best QB ever. Outside the 1 nice TD throw late he missed a ton of passes, horrid INT that was game changing at the time, is not mobile at all, and becomes very average when under pressure. Not to mention he could be the biggest baby in the NFL. He acts like he should be playing Euro Futbol with all his complaining, its embarrassing.

Forget Spygate, how many rings does Brady have without the Pats elite Defense of 10 years ago….Zero.

————————————————————How many rings did Bradshaw win without that elite Steel Curtain defense? How many did Montana win without the genius coach Bill Walsh? How many titles did Elway win without the Broncos cheating on the salary cap to assemble their all star roster? See? I can do that too.

  125. That was one heck of a game! By the end of it, I didn’t want either team to lose – they both deserved to win! I doubt either team we’ll see in Denver tomorrow will be able to match that intensity.

Cheers to both teams for a real never-say-die game.

  126. Kudos to the Ravens who in my humble opinion, was in control of this game from beginning to even the end. I thought they got a lot of big calls to either get them some big yardage or negate negative plays. The calls were even between the teams, but something didn’t quite sit right. Putting those aside, I thought the Ravens looked like a team who had a better game plan going in.

here’s my Good and Bad for my Pats –
    Good:
Danny Amendola – a good number of stellar effort plays resulting in bigger yardage, first downs, or even TDs. His best game since his first game last year.

Edelman/Lafell & Gronk/Hooman – both sets on their respective units did their jobs very well. They made important plays and really didn’t cause any negative ones. Special mention to Lafell on the one handed TD catch FTW. Should have been DPI but strangely wasn’t even called.

Brady – Made some critical throws at big times. Pass to Lafell was beautiful.

    The Bad:
Offensive Line – pass protection and running game was awful… Brady was getting beat up after Stork went out.

Defensive Line – Was getting manhandled all game long…getting blown off the ball something awful.

Pass Rush – Didn’t get much of a sniff of Flacco unless they were getting called on penalties on the backend.

Darrell Revis – tough game. refs called EVERYTHING against him because well…they couldn’t call it on Browner anymore cuz he was out.

Coaching in the first half – The Pats came out flat footed and were just steamrolled. Again, really poor execution at the end of the half and beginning of the second.

1st Quarter/End of 1st Half Brady – TB12 has had so many end of first half brain cramps this year to essentially give the other team points. Then he comes out in second half and goes 3 and out. What the heck?!?

  127. Congrats steelers. Higher draft pick than the ravens. But u forgot. That afc north win got you and home playoff game (loss) AND a tougher schedule next year.

  128. Best part of the post game presser “maybe those guys should study the rule book more” Brady reacting to the Ravens crying about the Pats only using 4 OL

  129. Pats fan here, I gotta tell the Ravens fans that Flacco is worth whatever you’re paying him. It wasn’t his fault the team lost, they put up 31 points against a superb defense. Anyone who puts the blame on him wasn’t paying attention.

  130. The pats are next to lose. They barely escaped to an average Baltimore team. Manning will take care of them next. If they luck out and survive they’ll crumble against the seahawks or gb in the big game. NFC takes it again this year.

  131. Tom Brady is a Hall of Fame QB. Joe Flacco will be one too. I’m dumbstruck though at that interception. Why in hell did Kubiak call that play when the Ravens had plenty of time left on the clock to get a first down and then go in for the winning TD?

Just like when the Pats play the Jets, I know they’re in for a hard time when they play the Ravens. It’s turned into a really great rivalry. Being a pessimist from Boston, I went into this game thinking the Ravens would do it to the Pats again. But Tom Brady had something to say about that today.

It was a fantastic game between two of the elite teams in the NFL. I feel kind of bad for Ravens fans because I know how I feel after the Pats lose in the playoffs. Now it’s time to see if old one and done Manning can get back to the AFC Championship game.

  132. Had a Raven came down with the ball on the last play Harbaugh & Flacco would have been great and Belichek & Brady would have been goats, even though nothing else in the game would have been different

  133. Tom Brady one of the best yes but will never be the GOAT there is only one and thats #16 with that said Go Pats only team I want to see win it all!

  134. Let me keep this simple -Baltimore blew two 14 point leads, Ravens allowed Brady to rush for a TD, the Birds O-Line got away with holding Jones multiple times AND Harbaugh and his staff do not know the substitution rules-NO EXCUSES!!!! Baltimore is not the same team it used to be!!

  135. As a Pats fan, I like the Ravens. This is the matchup and outcome I wanted. Beating Indianapolis for the upteenth time or beating Cincinnati is not the best way to kick off a Super Bowl run.

Now one thing I’ve learned about the Ravens over the years is, they don’t care very much for losing. They’re always hot-headed after a loss to the Patriots. Usually it’s complaints about Brady getting protected by the refs. This time it’s some unorthodox use of the rulebook. But regardless of what comes out of that locker room or press room post-game, nothing can tarnish a great game.

Second straight year the Patriots knocked the Ravens out of the playoffs — this time in the post-season.

Can’t say the refs were helping NE when they don’t call PI on that Gronk 3rd down play and over-rule what looked like an Amendola catch early in the game.

That was football as it is meant to be played and coached.

Both of those plays fired me up. Then, to call Revis for PI when he barely grabbed Steve Smith was ridiculous.

Although, my “favorite” complaint about the refs was how Mcphee had the ability to knee Brady in the head right in front of the refs and they didn’t call anything.

This game was fixed? Bull. They missed calls on both sides of the field.

  138. Congrats to the Patriots. The Ravens defense simply didn’t show up, especially with what has to be patented by now for Dean Pees: the play 10 yards off of every receiver coverage 75% of the game (Ravens fans know what I’m talking about). Can’t blame Flacco for continuing to be agressive on the late INT, his aggressive throws and the o-line protecting him were what kept the Ravens in position to win the game for 58 minutes.

My only criticism towards the Patriots is having to resort to trick plays to win the game since they couldn’t win offensively straight up in the trenches. But that’s well within the rules obviously and props to them for executing those plays for the win, they were the difference in the game.

    Your anger is very funny!

  143. After seeing such an amazing game, where the better team came out on top, I’m always blown away by the intelligent dialogue created by the trolls. Spygate. Billacheat. Pats only win because they cheat. How about maybe they win because they have a great system, great coach, great QB, and position players that by into the system and do their job. There hasn’t been a better team this century. Move on from the juvenile “cheater” claims. The Pats are just a great football team. Period.

  144. Ok I admit I do show troll behavior at times but come on everyone does it to some extant. Besides there was a user on here who said that patriots fans outnber other fans on this site. Guess that’s where my blood boils as they can easily create a massive perception by thumbs up or down. So I apologizd for any troll like behavior.

So what’s the excuse for the other 50+ plays that weren’t “trick plays”? Pats dropped 35 on the Top 10 Ravens defense and I think Suggs, Ngata, and Dumervil must have been partying with Ray Lewis and Ed Reed somewhere. Didn’t notice them yesterday…in the trenches.

  146. They barely escaped to an average Baltimore team

Looked to me like that average Baltimore team was on their way to another trophy until the Pats pulled one of the greatest playoff comebacks of all time.

  147. Now that was a great playoff game.

Why are Steeler fans even on this site now. Geez!

Go eat a sandwich or something. While you are at it throw some coleslaw on it.

  148. As a Ravens fan, excellent game Patriots. Well played.

For us, blame of the game goes to the secondary. Patriots had only 14 rushing yards (!!) and still won. Also, if you have 2 14-point leads and give both of them up, you don’t deserve to win.

Flacco played great, save for that late pick. I think this game solidified him as a top-tier QB – 4 TDs against the “best Pats defense in 10 years?” Damn.

It seemed like we didn’t gameplan for Gronk at all. One cornerback on Gronk on the 5 yard line? Who do you think they’re going to throw to?

On that last pick, Torrey NEEDS to fight for that ball. He gave up before it even got there. It still might’ve been a pick, but damn Torrey, at least try.

Gotta give it to the Pats. Pains me to say it, but Tom Brady is probably the best QB of all time. Even when it looked like it was game over the Pats would not give up.

Overall, great game. Instant classic. Best one I’ve seen since Ravens @ Broncos in the 2012 playoffs.
