Broncos will consider Adam Gase for head-coaching job

After the stunning (but not surprising) news that the Broncos and coach John Fox have mutually parted ways, conflicting reports emerged regarding the status of the coaching staff.  Still under contract (for now), they’re free to look elsewhere for work.

And all that that implies.

For offensive coordinator Adam Gase, it implies nothing.  Per a league source with knowledge of the situation, Gase will be considered for the now-vacant head-coaching job.

The Broncos ultimately may not get that chance.  According to multiple reports, Gase will interview with the 49ers for a second time on Monday night.  If the 49ers move quickly, the Broncos may not be able to get him.

Of course, there’s a chance the Broncos don’t really want Gase to become the head coach, but that the Broncos in turn don’t want to alienate quarterback Peyton Manning by failing to give Gase consideration for the job.

Meanwhile, if Gase becomes the head coach in San Francisco, maybe the 49ers can “evaluate” Peyton Manning again.

  1. I don’t know what Elway is getting at with this stuff here…but if he wants to remake the team I can speak for Jerry that the 27th overall pick and a 4th rounder in 2016 can be had for Von Miller. I’m sure he’d like to have his family attend every game at the Death Star.

  2. I think Peyton wrote John Fox’s name of a piece of paper and gave it to Elway. Watch the “retirement” talk go away all of a sudden.

  3. Gase would be nuts to not take the 49’er job. At least he’d have a young QB that has some potential versus an ailing Peyton or a rookie he may already has decided can’t cut the mustard.

And while I’m at it, Rexy should have waited for Atlanta instead of jumpin’ off into another situation with no quality QB to work with.

It’s a QB driven league so why go where the options at the position are so poor and are always tied to your success or failure…..

  4. I hope this guy burns Elway and agrees to become the 49ers head coach tonight, which would also mean Peyton’s done. New HC and offense for a 39 year old don’t think so.

  5. Elway is a baby going all the way back to when he was drafted and again when he was pouting with Dan Reeves as his HC crying until he got his way with Shanahan.

I hope Peyton isn’t pulling the same thing here with Gase over Fox.

  6. Kaepernick has a way better playoff winning percentage than Peyton Manning. Look it up

  7. I think that Elway firing Fox has to do more with the inability of Fox, a defensive mind coach, to put a decent defense for the Broncos. The offense bailed the defense many times last year, this year was supposed to be the opposite, yet the defense was a no show during big games.

Don’t see a Super Bowl win in there…

  9. Elway did the right thing. Fox is too conservative and this team was getting worse. They may drop to 10-6 next year but they were going in that direction anyway, which reflects back on Fox considering he had 9 players is the Pro Bowl. If you can’t win with that much talent, you should be replaced.

  10. can someone honestly tell me what adam gase has done to deserve the constant head coach attention?

  11. Kubiak? Yeah, he’ll win another one. In Baltimore, where he’s already knocking on the door.

A baby? If you were talented enough to have a choice to play pro baseball or pro football and got drafted by a city you didn’t want to live in what would you do? Huh? If you played for a coach that took all control every night before the SB and got you blown out what would you do? Huh? Elway would end up pressing for a coach that would draft a 7th round beast at RB, take a pay cut to pay said RB, and retire with back to back rings. Yeah, but YOU would’ve played your hand better right? Huh?

  13. Gase doesn’t deserve the job.

34 million under the cap with Manning on the roster, 54 million without….Broncos will be just fine.

If you want Von for the 27th pick and a 4th rounder please throw in Hitchens and you got a deal.

  14. If Gase is gone and John Elway brings Mike Shanahan back, don’t be surprised if he trades for Jay Cutler & Brandon Marshall for a reunion.

Hell, did anyone see all the previous crap coming???

People didn’t even see the QB with 2 lopsided TD/INT games out of his last 4 regular season games losing. Why do you think I picked the Colts to win??

Btw, is it me would any of this house cleaning not happened had they won the game yesterday???

What a disgrace! Elway could be turning into Matt Millen in no time.

  15. I really wish Rex Ryan would have waited to make a decision…I think the broncos job would have been a perfect fit for him. Similar defense. Doesn’t have to worry about the offense. Could have been fun.

  16. How can Elway sleep at night, he purposely fired Fox to get his buddy Case in as HC. It would serve Elway, Gase and Manning right if Fox came back to beat them somewhere down the line.

  17. Gase called that entire game versus the Colts where the offense looked horrible. Nobody was stopping him or Manning from making any changes this season. Hard to see what would change for the positive with Gase in charge.

And what league were people watching who thought Fox didn’t improve their defense? They were third in the league this year and still only gave up 24 to the Colts despite Von Miller and Ware being invisible for most of the game. Their offense cost them that game far more than their D.

  18. Gase would be a foot not to take the 49ers job. Young qb that will in all likelihood play next season, with average to better than average recent success. The Broncos have way too many questions to even THINK playoffs next season without Peyton coming back (and in his best form).

  19. Funny ‘how the world turns’. Just before the end of the regular season I thought there might only be 2-3 HC vacancies based on team performance, e.g., Jets, Oakland, Chicago.

Then, Marrone resigned, and the floodgates opened up, including Harbaugh, Smith and Fox. Interesting that more vacancies have now opened up than have been filled, in the meantime.

NFL is now the NDL (National Drama League)! Love the off-season…

  20. In certain respects I find Fox’s firing even more inexplicable than Jim Harbaugh’s.

If they were going to fire Fox they should have done it at the end of last season – right after that Super Bowl embarrassment – and then they would have already had a season with their new HC in place by now.

  21. From Harbaugh to Gase? All because of his accomplishment with Tebow?… Manning ran his offense… Silly move; then Fangio leaves and perhaps all or most of his defensive assistants… There’s a lot of quality coaches available. Baby Jed and Baalke finally get their “Yes Man” and save a buck (cheap owners).

  22. It seems to me that Gase was primarily responsible for shuffling player substitutions onto the field for Peyton and sometimes Peyton would send them back to the sidelines. Manning did the play calling at the line. How does that translate as Gase being a hot commodity for HC jobs?

You mean not wanting to play for the team that would move in the middle of the night with the Mayflower Moving company?

Nah…… Irsay was a standup owner with no distractions at all.

As for Fox, he got his ass kicked twice. What defensive coach couldn’t get those players to play? John Fox, that’s who!

  24. Gase would be another figure head cashing checks and just letting things happen on the field.

If in doubt… see the Bronco’s offense.

When Peyton was healthy, Gase rode on Peyton’s work. When they NEEDED coaching during the last half of the season… they just kept doing the same things and became impotent and sputtering.

  25. One has to wonder how this front office dysfunction and Manning’s uncertainty to return, will affect the upcoming free agents decisions (Both Thomases, Franklin, Knighton, etc.).
