Arizona could be the landing spot for Dick LeBeau, who announced his resignation as the defensive coordinator of the Steelers last week.
The Cardinals’ website is noting that if the team’s current defensive coordinator, Todd Bowles, gets a head-coaching job, LeBeau would be a candidate to replace him. And Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that LeBeau has talked with Arians about possibly joining the Cardinals’ staff.
LeBeau and Arians spent eight seasons together on the Steelers’ staff, so their familiarity with each other would make LeBeau a natural choice to replace Bowles.
The Cardinals’ website suggests that LeBeau is only an option if Bowles leaves, but even if Bowles stays in Arizona, bringing LeBeau on board as a defensive assistant could make sense. LeBeau’s wealth of experience in the NFL could make him a trusted advisor to Bowles and Arians, even if he has to take a title like “senior assistant” instead of defensive coordinator. LeBeau could help the Cardinals’ defense even if he’s not running the Cardinals’ defense.
