Report: Teryl Austin expected to have second interview with Atlanta on Wednesday

AP

Lions defensive coordinator Teryl Austin’s second interview with the Falcons regarding their head coaching position is now expected to come a day earlier than planned.

According to Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com, the Falcons are “likely” to meet with Austin on Wednesday.

The Falcons were scheduled to meet Wednesday with Cardinals defensive coordinator Todd Bowles, but Bowles is reportedly taking the Jets’ head coaching job.

The 49-year-old Austin interviewed for Chicago’s head coaching vacancy on Tuesday. In his first season running Detroit’s defense in 2014, the Lions allowed the second-fewest yards in the NFL.

Oakland, San Francisco and Denver are also searching for head coaches.

  1. I’m surprised Chicago let him leave town. Moving the interview up one day is suggestive that Atlanta is chomping at the bit to make him an offer. Thanks for the great work this year in Detroit!

  2. Austin is a heck of a coach, if Atl goes with him, they’ll be getting one of the best candidates out there. That being said, I hope the go with Quinn so Austin can stay in Detroit.

  3. Rex Ryan -> Buffalo Bills
    Todd Bowles -> New York Jets
    John Fox -> Chicago Bears
    Adam Gase -> San Francisco 49ers
    Jack Del Rio -> Oakland Raiders
    Teryl Austin -> Atlanta Falcons
    Dan Quinn -> Denver Broncos

  4. Falcons let another good one “slip by”. Personally, I think they are doing everything they can to pass up the best candidates so that when McDaniels is the only one left, they can say “He was our best option at that time.”. Gonna suck to be a Falcons fan for a few more years….

    The Bears are led by buffoons, maybe they will look at the arena league for a coach this time.

  6. Teryl – during your HC interviews, please talk about UFOs, any conspiracy theories you have about 9-11 and the JFK assassination, and how animals have psychic powers.

    Sincerely,

    Lions Fans

  7. Blank is shooting blanks…..Falcons have problems with owners…….why fire Smith and then go get someone not as good????we all know the cap problems we had 3 years ago, gutted our program and really that was the big problem. Yet you keep the front office responsible for it……we needed a change…. A complete change with an experienced coach….not getting Ryan well….but not getting Fox is a mistake…but it does not matter teams generally have success with A good coach that has control of the program….Blank has set the Falcon’s up for failure, I predict Quinn, a DC with so much talent he has to look good…..3 years and out….Falcons and 49 ners have Ownersrotsurteemoff a very hard ailment to cure
