Rex adds Aaron Kromer, David Lee to Bills’ staff

There’s little doubt that new Bills coach Rex Ryan will have a good defense this year. The question is whether he can get anything done on offense. So Ryan’s hirings on that side of the ball will be particularly important.

Now Ryan has added a couple more veteran coaches to go with offensive coordinator Greg Roman: Aaron Kromer and David Lee.

Kromer will become the Bills’ offensive line coach after spending the last two seasons as the offensive coordinator of the Bears. Kromer’s tenure in Chicago was most notable for his admission that he had been the source of anonymous quotes criticizing Bears quarterback Jay Cutler. Kromer has previously been an offensive line assistant on the Raiders, Buccaneers and Saints.

Lee will become the Bills’ quarterbacks coach, a job he also had in Buffalo in 2012. He spent the last two seasons coaching the quarterbacks under Ryan with the Jets. The Jets’ quarterbacks didn’t play particularly well the last two years, but apparently Ryan thinks Lee can get more out of EJ Manuel, or whatever other quarterback the Jets bring in. The quarterback position is by far the Bills’ biggest question mark, which means Lee has a big job ahead of him.

  1. Lee can get more out of EJ Manuel, or whatever other quarterback the Jets bring in.\

Manuel getting traded to the Jets?

  2. Cutler had really good protection in 2013 when everyone was healthy, and Kroner had a lot to do with that. Last season they weren’t so good, but that had to do with injuries more than anything else.

Rex either has to make sure he learned his lesson or keep him away from the media

  3. So lets review shall we. The new HC and offensive coaching staff come from teams of records of 8-8, 5-11, 4-12. Their offenses ranked 20, 21, 22, in total yards. Their quarterbacks ranked in the lower half of starting QB’s in QBR in the league. Even with Cutler and Kaepernick as QB’s. Moreover, all their teams and QB’s regressed under their leadership. Sounds like a huge upgrade (sarcasm). It would appear that continued futility will be the future.

  4. Wow, so Rex brings in the OC who trashed his starting QB to the press anonymously and the QB Coach whose been grooming Geno Smith these last two years?

Things are looking UP, UP, UP!

  5. Maybe he could bring in Rush Limbaugh to play QB for the Bills. Ryan and Limbaugh look like twin brothers…..no offense to Rob.

  6. There’s little doubt that new Bills coach Rex Ryan will have a good defense this year.

They had a good defense last year. Will Rex get credit if it is good this year?

  7. Every good coach ever has been good from day one, right? No coaches were bad, or made mistakes, the first time around?

Give me a break…the Jets talent blew, it’s nothing even close to Buffalo’s.

  8. “Ryan thinks Lee can get more out of EJ Manuel, or whatever other quarterback the Jets bring in. ”

Maybe Ryan thinks trading Manuel to the Jets would help since it would be a huge setback for a division rival.

I was excited ’till I found out it wasn’t David Lee Roth.

    Much ado about nothing…

It’s not the singer from Van Halen, it’s not the Golden State Warrior, and it’s not the USA Indoor Volleyball Olympian. Who else is there, really?

  10. I’m sorry Bills fans, but the hiring of Rex Ryan was a huge mistake. You needed a younger coach who is a good facilitator and strong team manager. There’s a reason Rex Ryan didn’t get the Ravens job after Billick left. He had a brief period of success with the Jets, but he’s not a long term answer. He’ll probably get the Bills to the playoffs sometime in next few years, but his act will be tuned out by players eventually and Buffalo will be looking for another coach in 3-5 years.
