Randall Cobb, Sam Shields are Pro Bowl-bound

A pair of Packers are late additions to the Pro Bowl roster.

Wide receiver Randall Cobb and cornerback Sam Shields are set to make their first appearances in the game, the Packers announced Monday.

Cobb’s spot opened with Cowboys wideout Dez Bryant withdrawing because of an injury, while Shields replaces Patriots cornerback Darrelle Revis, who won’t play with New England making the Super Bowl.

Cobb, 24, had his best season to date, catching 91 passes for 1,287 yards and a dozen touchdowns, setting up him up for a major payday as an unrestricted free agent.

The 27-year-old Shields played and started 14 games this season, notching 40 tackles, defending nine passes and recording two interceptions. He signed a lucrative new contract with Green Bay in March.

Bryant has a groin injury, according to the Cowboys’ website. The 25-year-old wide receiver led the NFL in receiving touchdowns (16), hauling in 88 passes for 1,320 yards overall. Bryant can become a free agent in March.

While Bryant won’t play in the Pro Bowl, Dallas tight end Jason Witten has been added to the roster, the Cowboys said. He will fill in for the Broncos’ Julius Thomas, who has an injury. Thomas (12 TD catches this season) can test free agency this offseason.

Witten caught 64 passes for 703 yards and five touchdowns for Dallas in 2014. He’s making his 10th Pro Bowl appearance.

  1. so basically backed in because 2 guys were unavailable……for a game that no one cares about….hey, rodgers is available, he’s not doing anything for the next 6 months or so!!

  2. At what point does this farce of a game lose its right to call itself the “Pro Bowl?” About 1/3 of all starters in the league are a “pro bowler” every year. What a joke. Does the NFL really expect anybody to take this seriously?

  3. Codytha35-you really can’t be serious. These are two really good players. You should really think before you open your yap.

  4. They will be remembered for playing with the team who is the biggest choker ever in NFL history. Worse than the Vikings 98 and 09 Championship games.

  5. Sam Shields in the Pro Bowl? Seriously? He’s not even the best CB on his own team — the guy made 2 boneheaded plays for every outstanding one last year.

  6. Raymman49 says:

Does anyone watch this farce anymore?

This farce of a game gets better ratings than the World Series, so there’s that…..

  7. Are there any selected pro bowl players or is it going to be a collection of alternates. Mark Ingram with all his slightly more than 900 yards rushing is in the Pro Bowl, really!?

  8. Funny, the only thing GB fans can bring up in every thread is something about the Vikings. You’re window is closing very fast while the Vikings have a better coaching staff, and will soon have a better team for the next decade. Have fun while you can, and make sure you sign up for darts and the pool league at the local VFW, because it will be the only thing you have in that town when the Packers go back to their dreadful days.

  9. I wish no Packers were playing in the Joke Bowl. I hate that game and wish they would do away with it.
All it is is another place where players can get injured.

  10. I’m just wondering, maybe all of you Vikings fans that have crawled out of the woodwork can answer this question:

Is Adrian Peterson in the Pro Bowl this year? Or is he too busy beating up a 4 year old because he’s a pansy coward?

I haven’t seen any articles about his play this year. Thanks,

    -A humble Packers fan.
