Kubiak doesn’t have much to say about Peyton’s future

New Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak doesn’t have much to say about whether he expects Peyton Manning to be his quarterback.

Kubiak said at his introductory press conference today that he has talked to Manning, but he doesn’t know whether Manning will retire. Kubiak also didn’t say whether the Broncos want to pay $19 million to a 39-year-old Manning in 2015.

“We have talked, talked a couple days ago at length, talked a little bit last night via text and those type of things, talked a lot about a lot of stuff,” he said. “I want to be the best support system I can be for Peyton.”

Kubiak did say that he thinks he and Manning could have success together.

“It’s easy to build a playbook for him. He’s been the master at it for many, many years. He’s a Hall of Fame player, Hall of Fame person. But we really didn’t get that far,” Kubiak said.

There will be plenty of time for Kubiak and Manning to figure out whether they’re going to work together in 2015. No decision has been made yet.

  1. I think if Manning stays, next year will be THE year it could happen for the Broncos. Kubiak is like rocket fuel for Manning and the offense.

  2. Kubiak wouldn’t be the one making the decision on whether or not to pay Manning. That would be Elway’s decision.

  3. Kubiak’s offense doesn’t fit Manning at all. Not remotely. He gets the QB on the move and shifts the pocket. Manning literally can’t move.

  4. Gary txt: “Peyton, wanna back up Matt Schaub? haha jk lol”

    Peyton txt: “OMG SMH retiring.”

  5. Manning is finished.. 39 years old with no arm strength… Denver has cap issues and has a demanding guy as a GM. Fox only won 40 games in 3 years.. Manning is the reason Broncos didn’t beat the Colts, not Fox…They changed the whole offense to hide Manning’s deficiencies the last 6 or 7 weeks of the season and it still showed up in the playoffs.

Not the best situation for Kubes to take on…

  6. Kubiak rarely has anything to say about anything other than “he’s a good kid” or “he plays hard” or his favorite”That’s on me” for when he loses.

  7. Can you see Manning doing the rollout Kubiak loves to call? It’s an integral part of his play action. Would be funny to watch but probably gonna have to go to plan b……

  8. Peyton’s future is still bright. He’s on track to pick up another franchise next year, and with pizza sales only headed upwards in Colorado the sky’s the limit.

  9. Manning wouldn’t want to go out the way he did. Plus I’m sure he wants to do another seasons worth of commercials for all of his advertising clients.

  10. In a couple of weeks, after only 3 years, Russell Wilson will have 2 Super Bowl rings, while Manning is still chasing a 2nd after almost 2 DECADES.
Next season Tom Brady will still be chasing his first legit title.
Manning is done. Time to ride off into the sunset with Nationwide by his side.
The AfC West is the Chiefs for the next decade, the Broncos are cap challenged and that window has slammed shut, is nailed down and painted over

  11. I hope that after watching the embarrassment performance by the Colts on Sunday people finally realize why Manning never succeeded in Indy. Yes, as a Colts fan, I know that some of the one and done are on him, but the team surrounded him was always like the team that showed in New England last Sunday, lack of passion, lack of personality, and ultimately lack of skills in al three faces of the ball, and also poor management and coaching. I also hope for his own good that Peyton retires. I honestly think that he is just waiting for the SB, if Brady wins his fourth SB, most likely Peyton will retire.

  12. John Elway, think about your sins against the cross… D. Thomas running across the field that is, to be hit by Tebow for a game winner in the playoff against the vaunted Steeler defense. Reflect and ask for forgiveness. You have zero rings to show for your actions.

  13. He’s not going to say anything until he’s told what to say. “Yes sir, Mr. Manning sir!”

  14. Not a fan of this hiring decision. Still……the chances of Manning playing next year increased with the hiring of a sharp offensive mind who has a history of developing and encorporating a strong running game.

  15. If you ask me and my professional opinion (chuckles) its time to call it a career. Dude, you’ve got your health (kind of), you’ll always be known as awesome (but the guy who couldn’t get it done) and you’ll be great in the new naked gun movies!

  16. Manning came to Denver for one reason and one reason only: to win a Superbowl. Elway put together a top-notch team for him, probably the best Manning’s ever had, and now he’s upgraded at coach. Manning is coming back. Whether he’ll get that second Superbowl ring, I have serious doubts, but he’ll give at least one more try.

  17. L0L, Broncos are screwed, no way Kubiak recovers from that embarrassing 2-14 season in 2013. John Elway is probably the second most annoying GM in the league next to that g00fball in Dallas. Kubiak over Fox is a huge downgrade. Elway has been hit in the head to many times….

  18. Kubiak was brought back to Denver because Elway is still confident in his old back-ups ability to carry his pads with a “sir yes sir”!

  19. Well, whatever Kubiak says MUST be the truth. Just like when he said he wasn’t leaving Baltimore, then less than a week later left Baltimore. Yeah. He’s got integrity.

Explain the cap issues that they have, you can not because there isn’t any, this is wishful thinking from raiders fans. They are 32+ mil under the cap right now for 2015 and if Manning retires before 3/9 add another 19 mil.

  21. I wouldn’t call megahead a “stat’s buff.” I’d call him a “stats something else” but buff wouldn’t be the word I use.

  22. I love all the experts commenting here on the cap and how Denver is in huge trouble. Well actually they aren’t. We have some amazingly cap friendly contracts because Elway and team have been extremely shrewd in their contract negotiations. So go ahead and keep on hating. With or without Manning, the Broncos will be loaded and will continue to own the AFC West.

  23. It’s truly astounding the amount of ignorance being displayed by the posters on here.

What a juvenile display of ignorance.

  24. Bad news for the AFC if Manning comes back. He still tossed 39 td’s/15picks/4,727 yds/Qbr was 101.5, with a bum leg and he doesn’t have to worry about a coach who has deflated balls. Manning does need to restructure his contract though, so the Broncos can resign “Pot Roast”, and get some quality Off. lineman.

  25. Well, whatever Kubiak says MUST be the truth. Just like when he said he wasn’t leaving Baltimore, then less than a week later left Baltimore. Yeah. He’s got integrity.

You should know better! You can’t use integrity and Baltimore in the same sentence ……unless it’s to say there is NO integrity in Baltimore.

Kubiak is no fool he saw a chance to climb out of a cesspool and took it…can you blame him?

  26. Regardless of whether Peyton comes back or not, the Broncos will have some serious losses thanks to the fact they went “all in” this year to win it and have salary cap/signing problems next year. One of the Thomases will be gone. Likely one or more defensive starters too. A big contract for Harris, Ward’s cap hit, Talib’s, and others start to count as well.

This was supposed to be the year. I’ll accept Manning was hurt and is a better QB than he showed in the last 5 games, but the supporting cast won’t be as good. That’s the story that matters.

  27. All that talent and couldn’t even make the AFC Championship game. SMH.

Of course Kubiak doesn’t have anything to say about Pey-Pey. He is smart to wait until Pey-Pey decides to retire…or not.

  28. You play Manning, you lose a year, Kubiak.

We know how this story ends. Playoff/SB failure.

Not worth the egregiously large contract. Money could be used for the team.

  29. To all of the chefs fans commenting on Denvers cap space the Broncos have 32+ mil next year, the chefs have 400,000. Ha you cant even sign your own free agents.

J Elway “I would like to introduce the newest member of the Broncos Defense Justin Houston”

  30. Where do you morons get your information? The Broncos do not have any salary cap issues.. that is what Mike Sullivan is for and he has done an outstanding job. The Broncos are just fine with the cap but thanks for trying.

  31. It really seemed like Manning’s arm was gone the 2nd half of last season. I saw it in the New England game and my uninformed and unvalidated belief was that it was some kind of shoulder/arm injury. I know he has a quad injury, and they say a QB’s feet/legs are as important as his arm is. It will be interesting to see how he heals, and if he’ll even be back. Something tells me that there’s a little more to this injury than they’re letting on. In any case, backup QB Brock Osweiler’s rookie contract expires after the 2015 season, so the Broncos have some interesting decisions to make

Peyton pretty much calls his own plays… Sure there is a game plan but Peyton, for years, has had the freedom to change the play call at the line based on what he sees from the defense.

  33. Still no mention of the upcoming 19 million dollar physical I see, just a matter of time I guess.

  34. Oh yea, patsy fans you can stop talking about how Denver went “all in” to win it this year and have cap problems going forward, your team is already 2 million OVER the high 2015 projected cap. So unless Mevis will sign for 8-9 mil a year instead of the 25 mil he is contracted for (not likely) start waving goodbye.

If he fails it, or decides not to take it, it will probably sound something like this

“Mr. Suh, there is a Mr. Elway on line one for you.

  36. Don’t you just love it when nubes talk about cap space, two months before anyone is required to be under the cap?

Sorry patsies, you can deflate the game balls but not the salary cap.

  38. Lemme guess: Kubiak took the job only because he believes Big Bro Manning will get him a ring? “Dream on…” (Aerosmith)

  39. The more I see people counting Manning out the more convinced I am that he will be back next year for another career year. Don’t forget that Manning openly said he wanted to play in this offense. Now is his chance.

  40. I’d just like to point out that the Broncos got their butts kicked AT HOME by the Colts, who then got completely destroyed by the Pats in turn. So anybody who thinks the Broncos were close to winning the AFC this year is fooling themselves.

Actually, Kubiak was for sure planning on returning, but then the Duke of Denver John Elway got involved and stole him away. Yup, Elway burns Baltimore again. The first time was in 1983 when he refused to be drafted by them.

  42. As a Bronco fan I’ve seen enough 18. He audibled into bubblescreen’s all game and left our best wepon not a factor (cj anderson) he’s a crybaby statman it was fun until the last choke job to end each year

  43. If Manning wants to come back he needs to hit the weights and come out looking like LaRon Landry. That way he might be able to put some zip on the ball. He might be 38 but he looks 68.

  44. Time for him to move on. First he gets owned by flacco , then Russell Wilson , then Andrew luck . The next generation of elite qbs. And yes flacco is elite. He outplayed Brady on the divisional throwing 4 Tds despite playing against browner and revis and Brady up against a piss poor secondary. I don’t wanna hear that jump ball joe crap, just bc manning couldn’t throw a decent long ball to save his life and throws nothing but dudds and duck farts. Flacco throws the best deep ball in football period – forcing defenders to either commit P.I or just give up a td .

Baltimore burned Elway just a few short years ago when Denver were supposed to win the SB. Elways plan to get Manning and go all the way has yet to pan out. Is Kubiak the answer? Not sure he can do better than Fox.

  46. And Who is Denver’s QB if Kubiak doesn’t want Peyton? Or Peyton doesn’t want him? Stupid stupid move by Elway. IDC how old Peyton is he is still better than 95% of any other QB in the NFL except maybe Rodgers. Kubiac will never appreciate Manning. Sad and I’m not a Denver fan but I love Peyton!

  47. As a Browns fan I watched Modell fire Marty after 4 conference championships and 2 visits to AFC divisional games. He didn’t win the big one but I would take all those wins now and be happy. John Fox got screwed and Elway will pay for his rash decision and Denver will never see an SB because of it. Kubiak is a proven 50-50 guy and he doesn’t believe in Peyton. This has loser written all over it. So sorry Denver fans!
