Chiefs General Manager John Dorsey is in Mobile, Alabama with the rest of the NFL’s personnel men for Senior Bowl practices, but he took a brief detour on his way there.
Dorsey and team owner Clark Hunt stopped in Atlanta to visit with safety Eric Berry, who is undergoing treatment for the Hodgkin lymphoma that he was diagnosed with during the 2014 season. Dorsey said that Berry had a big smile on his face while talking football during a visit that found Berry surrounded by family and in a positive frame of mind.
“We spent two hours together over [at] his parents’ house, hung out with the whole family -- mom, dad, brothers,” Dorsey said, via the Kansas City Star. “He was laughing, he was in good spirits. That’s all you can ask for. And I think, whenever somebody is going through something like that, it’s appropriate that we, as an organization, make the effort to go see a player that’s very meaningful to us. That’s what it’s all about.”
Berry’s cancer was called very treatable and potentially curable upon diagnosis, but Dorsey didn’t get into any outlook for Berry’s football future after the visit. We continue to wish Berry the very best in his fight and hope to see him back on the field sooner rather than later.
