Ryan Grigson declines to discuss deflation controversy

At a press conference Friday, Colts General Manager Ryan Grigson declined to say whether he had been interviewed by the NFL regarding allegations of under-inflated footballs in Sunday’s AFC title game at New England.

“I can’t speak on it. Sorry, guys,” Grigson said.

Grigson also declined to say whether the Colts had informed the NFL of inflation concerns about New England’s footballs in the first half of Sunday’s 45-7 loss.

“Everything’s going to I’m sure come out in the investigation, guys, and like I said, it’s not appropriate for me to talk about it. I can’t do that. It’s in the league’s hands,” Grigson said.

Grigson’s remarks were made before the NFL issued a statement providing an update on its investigation. In the statement, the league said it had conducted “nearly 40 interviews” about the alleged under-inflation.

  1. Thank You!
Finally, someone refuses to talk about the non-story!
This guy just became my favorite GM of all time.
Now if we can just get the other 20 million people in the media to do the same.

  2. each of the balls is 12. The Colts balls are another 12 and then the Patriot backup balls which did not lose air makes 36 balls. So they interviewed 4 people. It’s my understanding the balls weren’t talking.

  3. There it is, the Colts attempted a set-up and sabotage, D’qwell Jackson didn’t fall into line with their story, Irsay has been hiding for days on a binge maybe, Grigson is playing faceman.

Somewhere behind this is money changing hands – and the Colts fingerprints on the cash.

  4. Can anybody out there please tell me just how much weight that extra 2 lbs of air create in a football. I mean are we talking 4 or 5 ounces? Less than that it would seem hard to notice.

  5. He should discus how his team got butt whooped, but hey that wont be interesting. Luck sure covers a lot of deficiencies on this team.

    ===============================

    You must be joking.

  7. Kinda joking – yeah.

What is interesting is that Irsay has tweeted some weird stuff his last couple of tweets, and has been uncommonly quiet…..

Hope the guy is straight, but you know – his history and all.

  8. All we need to know is that the league hasn’t interviewed Brady.

Goodell doesn’t want to know what happened, at least until after the game.

Even then, as he did in Spygate, he’ll bury the evidence as his media minions protect him.

“[W]inning puts [N.E.] on the same level with the great 49ers and Steelers dynasties”, wrote Goodell’s personal shoe-shine boy, Peter King.

Not to any fan with an objective molecule in his or her body.

  9. Did anyone mention the “integrity of the game” and losing on purpose to ensure the #1 overall pick in the draft the same year a franchise QB was available and the franchise qb he had was moving on after surgery?

  10. Even then, as he did in Spygate, he’ll bury the evidence as his media minions protect him.

what exactly did he bury? you know he played the confiscated tapes live to reporters as he was delivering the punishment live on tv, right?

  11. The more I think about it, the more I gotta wonder why the Colts are being probed more.

Apparently the Patriots knew nothing about this “sting” operation, but the Colts were completely aware. That reeks of setup.

The team says D’qwell Jackson tipped them off – but Jackson nipped that as false. Thats confirmed lying – and you ain’t lying if you’re the one with clean hands.

Pagano acts like it was all news to him, and on the other hand he is the one that reached out to Grigson during the game.

Colts seem very active in this thing – and the normally boisterous Irsay is off waxing philosophical nonsense on his twitter again.

Likewise, the NFL investigators left Gillette on Wednesday after only being there since Tuesday. Ben Violin has better details on their movements than other reports.

They’re in Indy as we speak – checking the teams ballboys bank accounts.

Let me guess, 9/11 was an inside job too?

  14. nfella – Initial reports states Jackson gave the ball to the equipment manager who then noticed something was off. If you insist on crying set up at least present accurate information. You are deflecting blame so hard its laughable.

  15. LOL. A thumbs down on my paper clip reference. Would you mind telling me where I’m wrong? There is at least one in every crowd.

No the original report said that Jackson noticed something was wrong and gave it to the equipment manager then they confiscated the ball and took it back to the locker room. There’s also conflicting reports that the Ravens tipped the Colts off about it but then it’s reported that the Colts were looking into this since their regular season game. Face it the stories don’t match. Not saying the Pats didn’t do it but the reports are conflicting.

    Wikipedia:

In his annual Super Bowl press conference later on February 1, Goodell said he was “more than willing” to meet with Congress to explain his reasoning behind destroying the tapes, and added he didn’t think the illegal videotaping incident “tainted [the Patriots’] accomplishments.”

You *really* think Goodell played all the evidence on live TV before destroying all the tapes?

Damn dude, to be that naive . . .

  18. Maybe neither Grigson nor Pagano have wanted to say much, because they are a little afraid that at some point, someone may start the other investigation. The one that ends up nailing the Colts for the reported communication between the sideline and Grigson up in the executive suites, during the first half, which is a big No no.

Rich Eisen who made the joke that for once he didn’t have to pay $9.99 to see the video. Sorry dude but it’s true.

  20. Pats fans that are blaming the Colts for the deflated footballs are being ridiculous.

How could any Colts employee get his hands on the Patriots’ footballs?

Brady acted guilty at that press conference.
    Lying and denying.

Never said he did. Try reading next time.

  23. From 1999 to 2003, Ryan Grigson was a national and regional scout for the St. Louis Rams.

I think the Patriots beat the Rams in a Super Bowl during that time period.

Ryan Grigson was hired by the Philadelphia Eagles as a regional scout in 2004, and was promoted to director of college scouting in 2006. He served in that role until 2010.

I think the Patriots beat the Eagles in a Super Bowl during that time period.

I think Spygate happened during that time period.

I wonder if Ryan Grigson has a grudge against the Patriots.

In other words, you’ve wasted our time, only finally admitting that we have no idea what NE did, because we never saw all the Spygate evidence.

You have zero (0) legit titles.

    Get over that.

  25. So was it Monday or Tuesday that every person who did or did not comment on it became a story? And was it Monday or Tuesday that the “What did ______ know and when did he know it?” stories started? Thinking about writing a study about media insanity.

  26. Just look at him, Grigson’s got the look of a snitch that now hates himself for what he’s created. It’s ok Ryan, just go into Irsay’s office and do a few lines and a few whiskey chasers, it makes the guilt go away for awhile.
