Report: NFL investigation has “zeroed in” on Patriots locker room attendant

Getty Images

Last week, the NFL released a statement saying they were continuing their investigation into under-inflated footballs used by the Patriots during their AFC Championship game victory over the Colts to determine if the deflation was “the result of deliberate action” by the Patriots.

Coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady both denied any knowledge of what happened and Belichick offered up an explanation via scientific experimentation on Saturday, but Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reports that the league has “zeroed in” on a team employee in their investigation.

Per Glazer, the league has interviewed a Patriots locker room attendant who allegedly took footballs from the officials locker room after they had been inspected and approved “to another area on way to field” before the start of the game. There’s reportedly video of this attendant with the balls, although Glazer adds that the league’s investigators are “still gauging” if the attendant, called a “strong person of interest,” had anything to do with the deflation.

The Patriots are on their way to Arizona right now. If anyone’s betting on the first question Belichick gets asked after arrival, it would probably be unwise to bet on anything other than Glazer’s report.

  1. Really? A locker room attendant will be the fall guy? He would have never and I mean never done it unless told to do so and instructed by someone. Come on Pats/NFL.

  2. I’m sure the locker room attendant prefers to handle footballs deficient of air… End of story… we should all move on…

Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!

  3. Attendant got paid by the patriots, plain and simple. Commissioner will use the ignorance defense saying there is no conclusive proof. Nothing happens

  4. “I got overzealous wanting to help, but just this game, I’m sorry”

case closed and 5 yrs of amazing no fumble stats just go bye bye. What a joke

  5. So the Patriots have found their fall guy that they’ve paid to take the hit. Good. Now we can get on with the game.

Just like Sherman said, no way the NFL was going to penalize the Patriots when Goodall is at Kraft’s house partying it up.

  6. So this is how the NFL is going to play this? Really?

Back and forth through the media?

IF THEY HAVE EVIDENCE THEN RELEASE THE REPORT!

If not then why are they doing his? Why are they letting this play out in the media through leaks? Are they trying to destroy the integrity of the league?

I said it before and I will say it again. If the league has concrete evidence that the Patriots tampered with football and they sit on it till after the Super Bowl THEY WILL NEVER RECOVER FROM IT! Especially if the Patriots win.

Haha, they can’t try and burry it on a Friday evening press release but there is no good way to say “hey, our leagues champion, cheated in the AFC title game”.

  7. thanks for the brilliant post, the nfl is hanging their hats on this one person as its all they got. failure of an admission from this one person and this will go down as goodel’s second fiasco in a couple of months.

since we know brady and belichek didn’t personally deflate balls it was pretty obvious that there was only one person to zero in on. thanks for the great reporting I thought they were going to zero in on Robert krafts house keeper.

maybe the nfl should also zero in on change in PSI as it relates to temperature or better yet with the nfl and youtube’s new relationship maybe fiasco roger could watch one of the 20 vids of science teachers performing the experiment.

get ready folks this story could be the end of roger goodel’s nfl career and the start to bringing integrity back to a league that has none under fiasco roger

  8. Let me guess. The $9.75/hour attendant went rogue and did it purely on his own, unbeknownst to Shady and Belicheat.

Let me further guess. That $9.75/hour locker room attendant will soon be driving a conspicuously upgraded vehicle in the not-too-distant future.

  9. lol so there is a guy who 10 min before the game started took the balls and went somewhere else in the stadium and deflated the balls and got the balls on the field on time without anyone wondering whats going on.

If so this dude has some talent!

  10. So Pats fans will now say that he acted alone. Or that it didn’t matter in the outcome of the game.

The truth is they always did this, which is why there was a sting operation to catch them. Which is why they have had the least amount of fumbles in the league by an almost impossible margin since 2010.

Making up fake science and acting like an A-hole is not the way for people to move on from this story.

  11. I’m sure the random attendant was just deflating the balls cus he felt like it. Doesn’t every team lets random employees handle/adjust equipment on game days…

  12. I wonder how much tom is going to have to pay this guy to keep his mouth shut?

I bet its worth it, nothing will really happen to him other than getting paid to take the fall.

  13. Fall guy……Most likely promised lifetime season tickets ,some pictures of Giselle, and gets to shake Marky Marks hand. A Boston trifecta.

  14. Considering the leaks coming out of the NFL and damage to their premiere event you’d think every reporter would consider that we’ll see plants. This news, doesn’t sound much like news. So we’ll see.

  15. when was the last time the authorities ever identified someone as “a person of interest” and that person ultimately NOT get charged with something?

  16. As predicted– Some poor sap will take the fall and the league will act as if nothing ever happened, while Belicheat will tell people “We’ll keep a better eye on it from now on”.

  17. If they only blame the “locker room attendant” and none of the other Pats like Brady or the coaching staff then the NFL is just as guilty.

No attendant would have the sticks to do this without direction. This is the NFL, nothing just happens by accident.

  18. I wondered what Kato Kaelin was doing these days.

Here’s the only thing I am sure of.

The NFL is not rooting for the Pats.

Spygate lives because the Pats won…whether it was useful for to.

Watching the movie PARKLAND over the weekend. Part of the conspiracy theorists fuel is that the FBI destroyed their files on Oswald.

    Why?

And why did the NFL destroy its files on Spygate?

  19. Not surprised whatsoever. This attendant is going to get a very generous severance package for taking the blame.

  20. Can’t wait to see how the NFL interigates Aaron Rodger’s once this is done….as he has gone on record numerous times that he over inflates his game balls…..Tell me what’s the difference???? I guess it’s whoever the media choses to hate that day.

  21. “Nobody–especially not Tom Brady–told me to deflate those 11 footballs.”

    Why did you do it?

“At halftime, Tom just mentioned, you know, in passing, that he sure would be happy if those balls were deflated a little bit. He certainly didn’t ask me to or instruct me to do it or anything.”

So on your own volition, you snuck the balls off to the side and deflated them?

    [cue sound of crickets]

  22. This is news? That the NFL is interested in the guy who actually had the footballs between check-in and game time?

Thanks Captain Obvious. Wake me when you find a smoking gun or move on to another topic.

  23. Glazer adds that the league’s investigators are “still gauging” if the attendant…had anything to do with the deflation.
    ————————
I see what you did there.

  24. So, another report from the media with an unnamed source claiming to know what’s what.

Until alleged person of interest is publicly named by an actual NFL official involved in the investigation, this is as meaningless as 95% of the other info that has been released so far.

  25. @thekiller678 – “Poor nobody”, nothing. He’s a Patriot, therefore guilty by association. Belichick and Brady saying they knew nothing about it is a bold-faced 100% lie. Belichick is a control freak and micromanager. Brady makes a living off what he does once the football is in his hand, and I guarantee that he knew those footballs were 2 PSI lower.

  26. Another NFL leak that really doesn’t answer anything. Is anyone surprised that this gets released while the Patriots are in the air?

  27. So they have a person of interest. OK great. I’m sure Glazer is right but it doesn’t change anything for me any more than Belichick’s speech did (although I did love the speech).

We still don’t know if this person did anything wrong. He could have been stopping to take a leak before heading to the field. This could be the NFL simply leaking this in retaliation for BB making that speech in the first place and throwing the gauntlet, to scare the crap out of him.

Point is, we still don’t know anything. I’ll be as annoyed as anyone if wrongdoing is found but we DON’T KNOW ANYTHING OTHER THAN LEAKS.

  28. Because locker room attendants always take it on their own to make huge game-altering decisions. I am sure that Belichik and Brady are absolutely stunned that this ever happened.

By the way, check the locker room attendant’s bank account in about 6 months to a year. It just might unexplainably get inflated from another mysterious source.

  29. And if Brady instructed the guy I don’t disagree with Bleacher Report’s Mike Freeman’s belief that Brady should be suspended.

It’s the length that I disagree with. Freeman feels A half a season because he hears from people around the league saying that they feel that New England gets away with everything. My belief is be consistent and illogical.

Masking agents are greater enhancers than deflated footballs. The drug policy states that masking agents resultant to game suspensions. If Brady should be suspended for a certain length, it should be two games. He never physically hurt anybody and he did not dramatically all to himself to win.

  30. Who were the locker room attendants, specifically the one in question ??

Where is the reporting ? Come on let’s get some journalistic investigating done here !

  31. aww. We were getting too close to the executive in charge of this whole thing. So, out comes another leak.

So, the interview happened and we’re still gauging whether wrongdoing occurred. So, let me help you, without proof, no wrong doing occurred….

meanwhile, patriots have presented a plausible excuse backed by data that has yet to be refuted by anyone conducting a similar enough study.

  32. I don’t believe Glazer. If there was video of the ballboy disappearing, the Pats would likely have seen it. BB wouldn’t have done what he did if they were doctoring the balls. No way!

  33. Now they want us to believe a lowly locker room attendant just up and “went rogue” on a team run by Emperor Belichick?

    BWHHahhahhaaaahaaahhhahaaahhaahhaahaaaaa…

  34. If he takes the fall for Belicheat and Tommy Uggs, Kraft will take care of him. No way did this person do this “just because.”

  35. Additional video of the locker room attendant also shows him leaving the stadium parking lot after the game in his car.

A check of DMV records verifies that the Ferrari is indeed the one owned by the locker room attendant.

  36. He should have just deflated the ball in a casino elevator, that way – the NFL would have never even asked for the video and all would be well!

  37. Not much of a leak. The NFL has nothing and they know it. But have baldy leak something, put intriguing words like “person of interest”, and let the sheep call the ball boy a fall guy.

  38. Absolutely no way that Brady doesn’t know that the football pressure was different.

He knows it gives him an unfair advantage in the wet cold weather.

Bellichick may be covering for Brady with that stupid science lecture on Saturday; but no one believes that Bellichick doesn’t look for any advantage he can get -legal or illegal.

So all youy Patriot trolls who say “What does “fair” have to do with this, listen to Bill Polian’s explanation why it matters

  39. Let’s assume the attendant did, in fact, modify the footballs (admission or video evidence). Hard to see how he would be the “fall guy,” because it’s highly unlikely he did this without direction from someone else (or at least wink and nod). What are the odds he said, “Hey, I’m gonna F with the balls today for no reason.” Remember, Belichick din’t personally video tape the Jets’ defensive signals. The video guy wasn’t the fall guy, just like the ball attendant won’t be.

Note to Patriot fans: I am NOT saying the attendant did anything or that Belichick did know it was happening. Just pointing out that it’s likely the attendant won’t be the “fall guy” if it’s determined he tampered with the balls. Now put down the pacifier and move onto the next comment.

  40. Wow. Watch for this person to have criminal charges pressed against him by the Pats. Obviously he was trying to sabotage them since neither the coach nor their star QB told him to do it. It was CLEARLY sabotage.

    Give me a break.

  41. So in press conference Thursday Belichick says how he goes out of his way to get the footballs in the worst shape possible, but during game day he has no idea the condition of the football. Nobody can possibly believe this can they?

Now they’ve “zeroed in” on a rogue ball boy who probably makes all of 10 bucks an hour as the fall guy?

What a joke. Gooddell ruins anything he touches, except his bank account. That keeps going up, up, up.

….. 5 yrs of amazing no fumble stats just go bye bye……

    ———————————————————

    Stevan Ridley agrees.

  43. Soon to be living well in Hawaii with the girl in the league office who took the phone call on the Ray Rice video.

  44. Same thing as when Sammy Sosa used corked bats. They should remove The Patriots from the NFL, and to balance it out, also remove the Browns.

  45. Unless that “locker room attendant” had the balls after the refs gauged them, why are we talking about this guy? They have previously said that once the balls go to the refs, they are in their possession until the game starts.

I still don’t think anyone did anything, but if it were someone intentionally doing it, it would be the persons, who hold the balls on the sidelines.

  46. There is only one real variable … does the league announce what they’ve found before the SuperBowl and then deal with the question of whether Brady & Belichek should be allowed to play, or drag it out every way they can to next week, and move on from there.
It is not complicated. Picture this call. “Roger, this is Jim, your customer over here at CBS. We paid a lot for the rights to broadcast this year’s SuperBowl. My advertisers are telling me that if Brady and Belicek are suspended they want a discount on all commercial spots in the second half of the game. Roger, this is big money we’re talking about. My bosses are making it clear that if we lose money on the SuperBowl, me and a half dozen other guys over here will be retired soon. I know, Roger you need to do the right thing. Is there any way you can do the right thing next week, not this week? Remember Roger, we are your largest customer. Please”

  47. Ok call me naive but the balls don’t magically appear on the field, someone’s gotta bring them out there. This should never have been leaked until what he did was known. He very easily could have been legally prepping them for the conditions, but that won’t matter now.

  48. This ball boy will be living in a 500k mansion in two months.
    ——————————————————

paid for by the Irsay/Kensil coop

  49. I really hope this is more than simply a minimum wage kid stopping to take a leak before heading out to the field. They are about to subject that kid to a ridiculous amount of scrutiny based solely on hallway footage? Really? Stop the stupid leaks. Has the media ever thought that maybe some leaks happen to make them look stupid? A simple comment + wild speculation as to what it means followed by a report from an anonymous source = ratings/clicks.

  50. to all the people who say pats fans will claim he acted alone:

im a die hard pats fan and will definitely admit there is no way he acted alone. that being said there was only one person to zero in on so assuming that he is guilty is a joke.

will all of you take back your comments if its proven he didn’t do anything??? I think not!

don’t you think belichek interviewed this guy himself before holding an unscheduled press conference to say he is absolutely sure they did nothing wrong?

insert spygate lie here for the haters, as bill never denied his involvement in spygate and therefore nobody has any reason to believe he is lying now

this is a witch-hunt on unprecedented levels, the sports governing body is attacking one of its teams on the eve of their biggest event without giving up any evidence or information all the while leaking info to the media that paints the team in bad light, forcing undo pressure on the team and taking the coach away from valuable game planning hours. and if that’s not enough they reportedly planned to set up this sting operation in the conference championship game and couldn’t even create a scenario to catch them. all they had to do was retest the balls ten minutes after they were tested by the officials upon being brought to the field and they would have had conclusive evidence. and roger goodell gets 44 million a year and he couldn’t figure that out.

  51. Story on profootballtalk yesterday states sources say 10 of 12 balls were only under 1 psi.

THe only ball 2 psi under was the one handled by COlts.

Very interesting…. I’ll go with the story yesterday, because two hours after it broke, the Colts owner, who was quiet all week, gave a public vote of confidence to Patriots.

  52. So the Patriots didn’t use their teleporter to get the balls onto the field straight from the officials’ locker room? What a thrilling development.

  53. So the “locker room attendant” took the footballs, and on his own initiative deflated them without the knowledge of Belichick and Brady. It’s bad enough to cheat, then lie about it, and finally to throw some poor joker under the bus, but to expect anyone to buy this line of BS is truly offensive.

  54. So, is there still anyone left out there who doesn’t believe this is a cover-up?
..because if you don’t you are a very special kind of stupid…

No honor, no integrity, no remorse.
    That’s the Patriot Way…

  55. So we’ve gone from blame BB and Brady to zeroing in on an attendant? Talk about grasping at straws. Next the balls made it into the cheerleaders locker room.

  56. Yeah the patriots had a cia like operations, they had a ball attendant ducking cameras to remove 1 psi of air in order to gain next to no advantage. Because that’s way more plausible then the actual laws of physics .

  57. After listening to Brady complain and whine all season, I’m sure the attendant just subconciously altered the ball to better suit a 5′ 2″ female.

  58. I wonder if Kraft/Belichick/Brady are paying this guy on thie side (all cash and in small bills, of course) to be the scapegoat.

  59. Wow, an attendant took the balls, to…. gasp…. “another area”? And I thought they got out to the field by themselves.

Great work, Roger, I’m thinking director of the FBI is your next stop!

  60. The assistant to the assistant’s assistant is always the guy to blame. Remember when USC got in trouble for this exact same thing under Kiffin and the official story was that it was some graduate assistant doing it without anybody else having any clue?

  61. If I was a ball boy for my favorite team (Vikings) and I knew Teddy liked the ball less inflated, there is no doubt in my mind that I would do this to help my team win a Super Bowl. Nobody would have to tell me to do it or pay me to do it. What’s the worst thing that happens to this guy? He gets fired from being a ball boy? I mean who wouldn’t want to help their team win a Super Bowl and get their name all over ESPN? Great move by this guy if he did it. That’s a die hard fan. Celtic Pride coming to life!

  62. My sources (Fred Edelstein) says the man being questioned is none other than the “Mark Henderson” and you should know who he is and this isn’t his first run in with the Pats.
It’s all becoming very clear now.

  63. And why did the NFL destroy its files on Spygate?

    —-
you mean after Goddell played the videos on a screen behind him in a loop for all the reporters while he handed down punishment?

  64. They can’t identify the locker room attendant because he was wearing a hooded sweatshirt and mumbled a lot.

  65. NFL has video of locker room attendent taking balls from officials after they were tested. Doesn’t every locker room attendent take the balls after they have been tested? Or is it just the Patriots locker room attendent that does this? The NFL should be ashamed they keep leaking bits and pieces of this story; it is ludicrous.

  66. Not to rain on anyone’s parade here but is there another team in the AFC better than NE Patriots?

Oh well. We live in a 24/7 news cycle world now.

Wish there was some analyzing over this matchup.

  67. yet, by brady’s own admission, the nfl hasnt interviewed him and won’t until after the super bowl

how convenient that they might wrap this whole thing up without even having to talk to the qb who was using the footballs

are they really going to have a new deflatriots story every 4 hours from now until kickoff? pathetic

  68. Barry Bonds pays off trainer to take the fall…
Tom Brady pays off the trainer to take the fall..

UHMMMM Both from same high school.
    Interesting, yet stoopid

  69. They need to lock that guy in a room with the bright lights on him, then get a detective to play “bad cop” (reminissiant of Will Ferrell in “The Other Guys”) to get it out of em.

I’m sure by the end he will be screaming: BRADY!

The difference is that Rodgers has the balls inflated before inspection. The the refs deflate them to meet the rules.

Brady and the Pats meet inspection then remove air before the game.

Even a vikings fan should be able to tell the difference.

  71. I feel like Belichick and Goodell are involved in a drawn out pissing match

It took them over a week to view footage of the max of 10 minutes that a guy had the balls?

More like no amount of $$ could buy this press coverage

  72. The Attendant was told by someone to let the air out of the balls, so when the NFL gets around to asking that question then I will pay attention….

  73. So, some poor gopher that isn’t part of the NFL elite 1 percenters will be thrown under the bus for Lance Brady and the Cheats? You knew it was coming. I refuse to ever watch the NFL again. CORRUPT!!

  74. It is either a) Highly Unlikely or b) Impossible that this person was acting on his own agenda.

The question is… Who directed him to alter the game balls?

The Patriots can play coy and “who dunnit” all they want, but if this is true they absolutely cannot expect us to believe he acted on his own. Even in very ridiculous chance that he did, he is still employed by the team and works on behalf of the team and the team would be held accountable.

  75. But wait, just 2 days ago Belicheat said that no one from the organization tampered with the balls… What do Pats fans say now?

  76. Mayhem in AZ!! Can’t wait for the SB paparazzi to get their mitts into Brady and Billy – I’m guessing 4 questions about the upcoming football game and 96 questions on the Glazer report. This is going to be GREAT!!!!

    Seahawks > Patriots.

  77. What a joke. Does anyone actually believe a locker room attendant would alter all those footballs without being told to do so?

No that’s not what he said. He said they over inflate the balls and SOMETIMES the refs catch it and let air out. So if they don’t catch it he plays with the over inflated balls.

  79. Questions:

What happened to Florio’s report that the footballs were closer to 1 psi lower and only the ball in the Colts possession was 2 psi lower, contradicting the report by Chris Mortensen?

What kind of human being points the finger at a locker-room-attendant with no evidence and uses terms like “zeroed in” and “strong person of interest” as if the guy was a murderer?

Has the league explained why this story is material if none of the on-field officials could discern a difference in the footballs and if the Patriots performed better after air was added to balls at halftime?

Has anyone asked the league to account for its own actions and if there was, in fact, a sting operations; and, if there was did Goodell approve of the operation?

Has anyone “zeroed in” on what the league knew and when it knew it and who the “strong person of interest” in the NFL including who leaked the conflicting stories to Florio and Chris Mortensen?

  80. What’s crazy is that this is Day #8 of the NFL leaks, and then they say they “cannot comment on an ongoing investigation.” Buy yet, everything is leaked to the media with ZERO evidence.

  81. This means nothing. Unless this person comes out and says “yes I did it ” on his own or because he was ordered, it means nothing. There are 100 other explanations.

  82. The Pats will throw this poor kid under the bus and Krafty, Tommy & Bellacheat will go on. What a joke the NFL has become. I am sure this guy did it all on his own. No way the NFL can believe this, but they will.

  83. The locker room attendant was an employee of the Jets, paid by the Colts, Ravens, Bills and Dolphins

  84. Let me guess, so the locker room attendant took the balls out just like lil tommy likes em but yet lil tommy didn’t know nothing about it. Riggggght! Time to drop the hammer on the cheaters goodell even if its your close buddy belicheat and kraft.

  85. The only thing that makes sense is the ball kid is an Indiana native and Colts fan. He let the air out to make it harder for Brady to throw the ball, giving his Colts an advantage. And it worked, thus the first half score. So everyone needs to look at that angle instead of it being the Pats.

  86. Lol @ this. The guy could have stopped to go the bathroom, everyone is on here jumping the gun stating he is guilty, if the bfl had sufficent evidence it would have been reported, Glazer even states that as of right now there is no proof of wrong doing. None patriots fans jump all over this and do enjoy it for the next day or two before its reported there is no evidence of wrong doing, then you can go back to saying it doesn’t matter they still cheated, why don’t you all worry about your teams next game…. Oh wait….

  87. I hope the LR attendant is receiving 6 figures at LEAST from the rich guys that ask him to take the fall.

  88. Common on Folks – the NFL just saw Saturday Night Live, and though he was really the Ball Boy!!
The Confession is on Tape, and has been viewed by half of America!!

Its validated, cheating is fair as long as its FUNNY!
Cheaters win – that’s what the NFL wants America to Realize!! You cheat, and you get to win, and play in the biggest game in America, and like any cheater should – have a chance to hold the most valued trophy in America!

  89. Let’s pretend that this was a just one time freak incident done by a rogue lone wolf attendant. Who specifically altered footballs equally in precise manner.

  90. Goodell, great move here. You run a sting operation that uncovers nothing and then makes your sports showcase event an after thought….. You sir, are a dope.

  91. Yet another anonymous source. In some ways I feel like the anonymous source from the league is floating information hoping the Patriots blink because they have nothing to implicate anyone.

At this time I can’t help but think the league is getting desperate as the story will be a huge embarrassment to the league when they can’t find anything and or find something minor.

Either way I’ll continue to wait for the final report before passing judgement based on an anonymous source and someone looking to get a scoop (considering we went from 11/12 at 2lbs psi under on to 1 being 2lbs under – – the ball in the Colts possession – – and then 8 being 1lbs under and explainable by the elements).

  92. What aggravates me as a fan of the NFL is the leaks that keep coming out without any public corroboration. The commissioner’s office is run like a two bit fantasy league. So now the NFL has a “person of interest” who they haven’t even found proof of any wrongdoing. My guess is they have analyzed hundreds of hours footage and this is all they have. This is their final shot in the dark. Goodell is a clown.

  93. The league got video of a ball boy taking the footballs from the refs locker room to the field in a matter of hours but failed to get video of Ray Rice knocking out his girlfriend in the 6 months between the incident and the start of the NFL season?

  94. Maybe we should be zeroing in on the officials?

After all, they inspect the balls before the game. To inspect a ball, you have to put the needle of a pressure gauge in the ball, an act that always lets a little air out.

Who’s to say they weren’t keeping those needles in a bit too long?

As the details of this mess have emerged, we have already gone from an investigation to a sting operation. It would not surprise me at all if it turns out that the sting operation was, in fact, a frame up.

  95. So, of the 40 people interviewed thus far, the one who actually carried the balls to the field is the one they have “zeroed in on”.

That, my friends, is brilliant investigative work.

Honestly, is this some sort of inside joke by the NFL on the nimrod reporters who are continuing to try to make this the biggest story of the week?

  96. Well that’s great so can PTF stop trying to get Belichick and Brady suspended for a year and the Patriots fined $1m. Yeah and Brady is going to risk having a low locker room attendant alter the footballs. Tom went nine for nine after the refs corrected the deflation at halftime…….

  97. This shows what a great person Robert Kraft is and why he’s respected buy the other owners and players in the league. He’s willing to sacrifice a locker room attendant and probably pay a small fine in order to let Goodell save face on this witch-hunt and end it.

  98. Here we go. The NFL finds someone they can cast doubt on so the investigation doesn’t look like a total witch hunt. There’s no evidence, he’s just the guys that carries the balls. No big deal. NFL should just admit they made much ado about nothing and move on.

  99. The Patriots were quick to respond about complaints about using the eligible/ineligible rules that their opponents should study the rule book. What goes around comes around

And i love the fumble evidence that the Wall Street Journal published compiled by Stats Inc & Warren Sharp of Sharp Football Analysis. i say quite compelling evidence. This implies that they have been doing this since at least 2010. How many games were effected by these super low fumble rates?

  100. This is reminding me of the commercial going through the locker room with the laundry cart and the locker room guy is throwing dirty jerseys on top of the balls !

  101. Ok this feels weird, I thought they said that the ball was properly inflated in the second half so how’s this still news, and still don’t erase the question of how the balls were less that 1lb of pressure deflated
but the Colts had a ball 2lb deflated

  102. bostonisthebestandyouallsukk says:

This is crazy. The ball attendance could have been a colts fan who set up the pats by under inflating their balls.

Yeah, and monkeys could fly out of Brady’s Uggs.

  103. You know, even though this whole thing is ridiculous, at least it only took the NFL several million dollars to realize that a ball boy probably carried the balls onto the field. I half expected them to try interviewing a Mars rover.

  104. Is this what passes as journalism in 2015?

The above references Jay Glazer and links to his Tweet.

The wording is Galazer’s, not anyone in the NFL’s but the reader is lead to believe otherwise.

Incriminating words are then used to give the the story greater impact:

    “zeroed-in”

    “strong person of interest”

The guy probably makes $30K a year and you guys are treating him like he is OJ Simpson.

  105. The NFL should ask this attendant to take a lie detector test! If the guy has nothing to hide you would think he would jump at the opprtunity to clear up all the speculation.

  106. This just in. Everyone pretty much knows now that nothing actually happened to balls intentionally and their little “trap” failed. Many Ravens and colts managers and fans have flocked to store though to stock up on preperation h for all the butthurt going round. And to beat Seattle fans to the shelves.

    —————————-

Does the timing of this leak coincide with the fact that Mike Kensil, former Jets exec and known Patriot and Belichick hater and his shadowy involvement with this story is starting to attract attention?

    #hmmmm

  108. Everyone knew Brady’s scapegoat was going to take the fall for him.

Adrian Peterson, for misdemeanor in the privacy of his own home, that had nothing to do with the integrity of the actual NFL? immediate 15 games and counting, without letting the investigation even run its course.

Greg Hardy, for accusations off the field, again, in the privacy of his own home with no effect to the integrity of FOOTBALL? Immediate indefinite suspension, 15 games and counting, without letting the investigation run its course.

Josh Gordon, for failing drug tests for marijuana, again, away from team facilities, etc? 30 games and counting.

Marshawn Lynch, for not wanting to talk to the media? $250k+ fines and counting.

Tom Brady, Terrific Tom, the white poster boy for the league? Pretty blatant evidence balls were tampered with, which DIRECTLY effects on the field integrity? NFL does nothing, and lets the investigation run its course.

NFL, the masters of consistency. I’m not going to pull the race card, but don’t be surprised when someone else does.

  109. headline should be “NFL has identified BALL BOY” and that only took 8 days . Patriots will be cleared of all wrong doing for one simple reason…THEY DID NOTHING WRONG!

  110. Okay, axe this guy and let’s focus on the actual game please.
Next week we can explore how he went from driving a 2001 Celica to a brand new Bentley, but for now I’d like to talk X’s & O’s.

  111. The God-del way drag it out act as if you are concerned for the game, do nothing. When you should be addressing the problem and doing something to Brady or Bill-I-cheat-once more. Can as fans you imagine if this was the Seahawks. The ax would have fallen two days after the roar. Hell as it is you are telling players they will get this or that if they do such an act. we all remember watching Brady with, F this and F that on the sidelines. Concerned for children which do we really believe they would get the crotch grab that many missed or the F words one after another.

  112. Latest reports — the Patriots normal locker room attendant was absent.

Investigators are now looking for this man:

  113. Wow, the anonymous sources who conjured this story from nothing sure are trying their hardest to make it linger.

#Framegate is over. Move a long.

  114. Wow it only took one hour for another negative sounding story to appear hah. Mayb because so much of the general public is now calling bs on this story and rooti g for the pats. Hmmmmm

  115. So you mean to tell me that some locker room guy took it upon himself to deflate the balls? If you believe that I have some prime real estate to sell you in the Florida Everglades.

  116. “Wake me when you find a smoking gun or move on to another topic.”

A smoking gun has already been found. When all the balls were tested at half time, and only the Patriots 12 offensive balls were light. Not the Patriots kicking balls. (Yeah, I know. The Patriots fans will now start to claim that the Colts were paying the stooge the Patriots used to deflate their offensive balls. Or that Jim Irsay snuck onto the Patriot sideline before the game to tamper with the Patriots balls. Please.)

  117. Locker room kid takes the fall, gets fired from the Patriots, and gets to sit in the owners box with Kraft at the Super Bowl in Glendale.

    Seems fair.

  118. Everyone knew Brady’s scapegoat was going to take the fall for him.

Adrian Peterson, for misdemeanor in the privacy of his own home, that had nothing to do with the integrity of the actual NFL? immediate 15 games and counting, without letting the investigation even run its course.

    ———

    Jason Whitlock is that you?

  119. I am a Pats fan of over 50 years and I find it odd that the media is letting league “sources” spoon feed it answers that are clearly damage control after the initial cluster – – – – that Mike Kensil started. A league “source” appeared to take the Patriots off-the-hook on Sunday, at least to some degree, by saying that the psi levels were not as low as Mortensen reported when the story broke. Now, on Monday, the day the Patriots will arrive in Arizona, the leak that they are focused in on a locker room attendant (is there anyone lower on the food chain)? I still think the story is a joke if it is true or not but do any of you guys getting this information leaked to you have a questioning bone in your bodies?

  120. He was deep down a Colts fan and thought it would hurt the Patriots, foiled again, who knew Brady liked playing with soft balls. ” And I would have gotten away with it if it wasn’t for them darn kids” Raggggggy rooooooo!

  121. Do most teams deflate the balls some from high school to college to the pros (apparently not the Colts though)? Yes
    .
Is this locker room attendant a fall guy? Yes
    .
Is the NFL going to brush this under the rug? Yes
    .
Will anything come about from the “investigation” other than firing some poor schmuck who was just following Brady’s instructions? No

The guy is going to get a nice little payday but still be out of a job. Maybe they sweetened the deal to keep his mouth shut by offering one night with Giselle and two of her supermodel friends, no questions asked.

  122. Unless there’s a video of the Attendant deflating balls or he admits to it there’s no proof. We already know Patriots employees had the balls after the inspection, so even though it’s news, it hasn’t really changed anything.

  123. Not a soul on this planet with half a brain is going to believe for one second that a friggin ball boy, on his own, deflated a bunch of footballs for the AFC Championship game.

If the NFL along with Patriots are going with this story, they have no idea how bad the backlash will be.

  124. The only person who should be investigated and banished is the ferret in Goodell’s office who for reasons that only he/she understands, invents stuff every few days in a futile attempt to keep this non-issue alive. There were ample opportunities to bring this to light long before this, and for all of his administrative incompetence, Goodell would want this resolved ASAP. This screams of fakery.

  125. This is the turning point in the false narrative that the patsy fans have been spewing for the last week. As soon as this video is made public, and the patsy employee is identified it will change from, “nothing happened, you are a jealous hater.” to “everybody else was doing it to”

  126. bullcharger says:Jan 26, 2015 4:52 PM

Unless there’s a video of the Attendant deflating balls or he admits to it there’s no proof. We already know Patriots employees had the balls after the inspection, so even though it’s news, it hasn’t really changed anything.

    ————–

Also… it would be hard for me to believe that Belichick didn’t interview this guy, didn’t know the video existed, etc. Belichick had 6 days.

  127. Anyone with an ounce of common sense knows how this played out. Fact: the 12 balls were checked 2.5 hours before the game and met the NFL standard for PSI.

Fact, the balls were handled by the Patriot’s employee before or during the first half.

I, or anybody else besides the Partriots, can’t point to when the balls were deflated but they were. But the balls were not in the possession of any of the Colt employees or any of the 70,000 fans that day so who else could it be? For as detailed oriented as Belicheck is and for as particular as Brady is about his footballs, you would have to be stupid beyond belief to think the Patriot’s employee was acting on his own. But stupid beyond belief pretty much describes most of the Patriots fans.

  128. So far theNFL has confirmed that the balls were probably inflated for the 2nd half. Tom Brady’s numbers:

    1st half -1TD/I INT Pats 17-7
    2nd half – 2TD/0 INT Pats 28-0

Wow that’s a huge competitive advantage he had in the first half.

People just need to let it go already. Why can receivers wear gloves or players have different size spikes? Why isn’t it a regulated size? Because it doesn’t matter, it’s a matter of comfort/confidence. PSI isn’t affecting the game, it’s a preference. Tom likes under inflated, Aaron likes over inflated.

  129. This is comical on so many levels. But, here are two:
First, how many lawyers submitted how many bill-able hours before they managed to “zero in” on the ball attendant? Were the groundskeepers also suspect? Maybe the guys in the concession stand were in play? Were they thinking the balls went to Belichick’s office? I mean, the ball attendant was the only suspect from go.
Second, the NFL might be the worst organization in the history of the world when it comes to keeping secrets. Every time this story is just about to die down, letting everyone get back to the game at hand, someone in the NFL’s employ lets out another secret. It’s beyond dumb. It’s been like a lesson in how to mis-manage something. Rodger Goodell might be the biggest stuffed suit in the history of the world. He’s managed to turn what was the equivalent of a speeding ticket into national news.

  130. So according to Glazer, the evil mastermind behind the Deflatriots might have been a low end equipment guy? Sounds like he watched the opening skit on SNL.

  131. My son is 10 years old…Last Monday, when this broke, his comment, “…the should talk to the ball boy…”.

If the NFL will cover his $3.50 weekly allowance, I’ll lend his services to the investigation.

  132. Locker Room Attendant Description:
As the Locker Room Attendant, you will be responsible for providing clean and orderly locker rooms for our members while ensuring that common areas are maintained and orderly.
Duties also include collecting dirty clothes and washing them.

He was just collecting the “dirty balls”

  133. No way Brady didn’t order that and now way the pats aren’t the dirtiest club in the whole NFL.

  134. I think the Pats got the idea of the rogue assistant from “Saturday Night Live”.

I hope that thick envelope full of hush money that the scapegoat receives under the table is enough to justify taking it in the neck for this.

  135. Attendant flailing as he is dragged away by the Men in Black looks back over his shoulder and screams “I’m just the patsy, I’m just a PATSY!!” as he is thrown in to a long dark sedan, doors slam behind him & the car races away…never to be heard from again.

Update: reports of a patsy look-a-like soaking up the sun & being catered to by attractive women in tropical island paradises continue to flood in from around the world…Men in Black said to always be in immediate vicinity.

  136. You had to know that some low level flunky was eventually gonna take the hit for this. I hope Bob Kraft takes good care of this fella.

More of nothing, no video of attendant tampering with balls. More of nothing just to keep story alive.
    ———-

The story is still “alive” because these lying cheats have gone from acting as if they were totally unawares, to coming out acting like my physics teacher (unsolicited, I might add) two days later, to scapegoating some guy who will be blackballed for life in the NFL as a result of simply doing what he was told.

Goodness, you people are gullible if you don’t clearly see that Brady told him to do it. No other explanation — although the NFL will surely try — will fly.

  138. As a few people pointed out on twitter, one of the rooms in that area is a washroom, it’s entirely plausible the kid went to the washroom before having to go stand on the field for a full half of football without a break.

He’s obviously going to be a person of interest as he is the last person to handle the footballs before they were in view of the officials.

Now, does that mean he didn’t tamper with the footballs? No, he very well could have, but much more very important information (like what room he entered) is needed before people should start using this as proof of wrong doing by the Patriots.

  139. Let’s take out the Glazer hype words and be clear what this says: Pats attendants who conveyed the footballs from the refs to the game are being interviewed and video of their movements analyzed closely. No evidence any are guilty of anything has been found, but boy we are really looking closely at those poor schmucks.

This deserves just as much skepticism as all the other supposed press scoops in this matter — a lot.

  140. No poor schmuck= A patriot family member with 25 years of employment. They were not going to risk this with a part time ballboy . It had to someone they could trust, someone they OWNED. In case it was ever discovered, and it has.

  141. SNL was right.

It was a rogue intern who took it upon himself to deflate the balls for his own sick reasons and poor Tom and Bill had no idea.

  142. The NFL needs to do something about it’s leaky sources. Nothing ever seems to remain confident within the league office.

  143. If there was a Hall of Shame, couldn’t think of two more appropriate inductees than Billicheat and Brady.

  144. NFL should stop this leaks. Mortesen, Kravits, now Glazer. Jackson’s alleged involvement was a lie. We don’t know what the real psi is and now this locker room attendant is the target, allegedly. Clearly the NFL wants this media feeding frenzy to go on with these drips of information. What does the NFL want from the Patriots?

  145. To me, this sounds like some sort of sabotage or a plant from the Baltimore Ravens. I wouldn’t be shocked at anything the Ravens do at this point. I hope the NFL comes down hard on them for such dirty tactics.

  146. What Bellichek instensive analysis on PSI didn’t reveal is the simple, locked-down process for how all balls are managed. It doesn’t matter the scuffing that is done on the balls. It doesn’t matter that scuffing leads to an increase in 1.5 psi increase. The balls are checked into the equipment manager. He then takes the balls and inflates them somewhere between 12.5 and 13.5. He must turn them in within specification to the referees who then keep the balls. The only way the balls can be out of spec is if the equipment manager or the referees (the only ones allowed to touch the balls) tamper with the balls.

Did Bill’s exhaustive study of nothing mention anything about the role of the ball boy?

Answer: No…he just needed to confuse the issue with a lot of mis information. It doesn’t matter what the Patriots do with the Balls. They simply turn them over to the Ball Boy.

So why would would the ball boy tamper with the balls?

Or more correctly, who paid the ball boy to tamper with the balls to lower the PSI in each?

  147. All that science crap is a SMOKE SCREEN. The NFL has been playing in wet damp conditions forever. They have never had under inflated balls.

The NFL has a LOCKED down procedure for keeping those balls at 12.5 to 13.5. The teams turn over the balls to the ball boys, who turn the balls in to the referees to meet exact specifications inside the legal limits. The only people that can touch those balls are the ball boys and referees after that point.

    Therefore, either
    a. the ball boy made an unintentional error that even Brady didn’t notice.
b.The ball boy made an intentional error that even Brady didn’t notice.
c.The ball boy was paid to tamper with balls with something NOT protocol. It sounds like that ball boy has done this for many games.

Given that Bill did his exhaustive study on how much extra pressure is created while they are scuffing up the balls, on stitching, etc…he LEFT OUT the only REAL scenario. Amazing such a smart guy like Bill can do all this exotic testing, which is meaningless for what condition the balls eventually exist inside the locked down ball bag.

  148. Yet nobody has interviewed Brady? Surely the “locker room attendant” decided to under-inflate 11 of 12 balls for the hell of it. What a joke the NFL has become.

  149. packerfansarefat says:
    Jan 26, 2015 3:44 PM
Can’t wait to see how the NFL interigates Aaron Rodger’s once this is done….as he has gone on record numerous times that he over inflates his game balls…..Tell me what’s the difference???? I guess it’s whoever the media choses to hate that day.
    ______________________________________
You want to know the difference between Rodgers and Brady? Rodgers stated that in a perfect world the balls would all be over-inflated, Brady actually under-inflated his balls… big difference. Brady is a fake, a cheating lying fake. ********************************************************

  150. Don’t we all know that guy that skirts the rules for their advatange? Yes

Don’t we all know it only matters the 3 Super Bowls, not silly rules – because everybody does this – Tom just got caught? Yes

Don’t we all get called teh greatest ever and get into the NFL Hall of Fame? No, that is only the Patriots.

  151. Why do you think this is a big deal for the NFL???

Can you say class action suit for all the losses by teams tot he Patriots because of every game that was played with an illegal ball?

  152. I could care less about this whole thing but understand everybody’s frustration about it. But I just gotta say I’ve never seen funnier comments on any other story I’ve ever read on here. Some are HAHA funny but most are “patriot fans are being really naive and/or ridiculous defending Brady and Belichik” funny.

  153. How stupid do you all feel know that the video showed he was in there for 90 seconds? LOL

This whole thing is a joke!

Unless it comes out that Indy and/or Baltimore had something to do with this, then I suppose we have to come up with another stupid “gate” name…Maybe “Framegate”

  154. It should surprise no one if the Deflatriot locker room attendant’s been doing it all season long under orders, and it finally got noticed in the last game. And Brady could conveniently and technically tell the truth that he noticed no difference when he handled it.

  155. So the guy takes the blame with no explanation and receives a new house in South Boston. Get tired of that house and hits up the Pats for another house or else he will talk. Kraft now looking for Whitey Bolger

  156. There’s very little chance that the team’s locker room attendant would deflate the footballs without being ordered to do so. That said, this issue is getting old and tired. I’m starting to think the NFL is doing this on purpose to try to hype up the Super Bowl.

  157. There may be some validity to this article. There are new video footages of Osama Bin Ladin taking the footballs, as he tip-e-toed to the bathroom to deflate them. Terror alert elevated to red again! If you notice any strange, unintended & unidentified looking footballs in the area, notify the authorities immediately. There are new videos of Bin Ladin’s threats to deflate more footballs in future Super Bowls. These videos will be released within the next couple of days, leading up to the Super Bowl. Stay tuned.
