Report: Raiders meet with Todd Grantham

AP

A veteran NFL assistant currently in the college coaching ranks is reportedly on the Raiders’ radar for their defensive coordinator vacancy.

Dianna Marie Russini of NBC4 Washington reports Oakland is “meeting with” Louisville defensive coordinator Todd Grantham.

Grantham, 48, was the Browns’ defensive coordinator from 2005 through 2007. He also had NFL coaching stints with the Cowboys (2008-2009), Texans (2002-2004) and Colts (1999-2001).

Grantham is entering his second season with Louisville. He was Georgia’s defensive coordinator from 2010-2013.

  1. UGA and Raider fan here. Finally didn’t have to see him in Athens anymore and now I’ll have to see him in silver in black?! There has to be someone better willing to take the job.

Anyone else thought that was the picture of a convict?”

    oh goody

  4. Todd Grantham who finished runner up to the Saints DC who had maybe the worst defense in the NFL last season ? This is crazy . I knew Mike Smith might be a reach but I thought our staff on paper would look better…..much better .

  5. Grantham did a terrible job at UGA even when he had a talented defense like in 2012(8 defensive players drafted in the next draft). Not sure what he’s done to get a promotion to the NFL.

  6. And meanwhile, back at the Raider compound, legendary McKenzie is calling the shots on these no name hires. Why does he still have a job? He is clueless and has run your program into the ground.

  7. So much for putting together a great staff. Who knows how this will all play out. As a raider fan, I can see this team starting all over again in another 3 years. On paper this entire coaching staff is a joke. Knew the raiders were in trouble the minute Reggie brought in his former roommate Clinkscales and the head of player personnel. He was terrible with the jets

  8. it’s all good …..Jack knows what he wants. Thank God it’s not like the broncos situation.

Mark Davis gave Del Rio the power to pick and choose his assistants. Don’t blame Reggie if they don’t work out. But if they do, you wouldn’t give him credit either would you?

  10. We Raider fans need Big Name (Media Hyped) hires to satisfy our paranoia. Losing and repeating the same cycle over and over has all fans on edge. Facts are we arm chair GM’s are just that. Let the head coach put together his staff. Save you judgement for the end of the next NFL football season. Sure I wanted Trestman and Smith too. But we have no information on what went down in those interviews to make coach Del Rio go in another direction. Wait and see approach for me.

  11. I read his wikipedia sounds very successful as a defensive coach at the NFL level above average with college talent but seems to make great players play at a higher level. We have some great players on D and can acquire more in the draft and FA with JDR mentoring him and molding him into his guy this could be huge. Seems like we might switch to 3-4 which could be big for Mack and Jelly. Sio would then play ILB. We could get Knighton and one of these top DE’s in the draft then we would only need depth on defense to start seeing vast improvement.

  12. I’m not blaming Reggie for this coaching staff. I can blame Reggie for the last terrible hire with Dennis Allen, the absolute joke of a drafts he has had with the exception of last year. On top of the joke of free agents he has brought in. He has had 3 years to assemble one of the worse rosters in the NFL.

  13. I’ll be shocked if after 5 games in next season we are not near last in the league in offense and defense. Looks like Del Rios rep for burning thru coordinators is coming back to bite him. We are scraping the bottom of the barrel here for asst. coaches. No need to cry about it, we brought it on ourselves.
