Bill Belichick calls Marshawn Lynch “best back we’ve faced”

AP

Patriots coach Bill Belichick says his defense hasn’t faced a challenge quite like Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch before.

Although Belichick is refusing to answer questions this week about Deflategate, he gave lengthy answers to reporters’ questions about his thoughts about the Seahawks on the field. And there was no one Belichick sounded more impressed with — and perhaps concerned about — than Lynch.

“Lynch is a tremendous back, best back we’ve faced. He does everything well, he’s got great balance, great power, vision, instincts, he’s great in the open field, he gets tough yards around the goal line, third down,” Belichick said.

Lynch ran for 1,306 yards in the regular season, and his 157-yard game against the Packers went a long way toward the Seahawks winning the NFC Championship. He may just be the best running back in football right now. Belichick seems to think so.

  1. Kraft’s statements only confirm Ricky Sherman’s statement ! That he and his coach and his quarterback and the whole organization can talk down to the NFL !

  2. Yeah but can he explain how inaccurate *Tom Brady will be now that the ball is at a legal psi? Or how Edleman plans to catch the balls that are properly inflated? Those are the questions the media should be asking.

  3. The Belichick love fest continues. Yesterday, he gushed over Pete Carroll… today, it’s Lynch.
How bout some love for your ball boy, Bill?

  4. Continue with your hate mail, trash talking, and doubt people. It motivates the players and makes the fans louder

  5. It’s the best back he’s faced only because a ref thought diving and stretching for the end zone wasn’t a “football move”.

  6. I guess Bill has conveniently forgotten the MNF debacle against KC when an injured Jamaal Charles ran for 92 yds & scored 3 TDs while Knile Davis tacked on another 107 yds rushing.

  7. Other quotes by Belichick.

“Richard Sherman is effective with even his good arm tied behind his back.”

“Russel Wilson is my mentor now. I learn from him. When Brady retires, well, you know…”

“Doug Baldwin is the new Megatron in my book.”

  8. Imagine you are a player or a coach and you have to talk to these clowns in the media or get fined. The same clowns that spend their lives trying to tear you down and attack your character. Don’t kid yourself, they have attacked both Marshawn Lynch and Tom Brady’s character; two men that carried their teams on their backs tot he Super Bowl.

  9. “It’s funny how the Seahawks are always getting kissed by everyone,…”

Are you kidding me?? Seriously? Belichick says something nice about one Seahawk player and now “everyone” is “kiss’ing them?

Yeah, you’re right, those Seahawks sure are the media darlings.

    C’mon man!

  10. The Patriots will be trying to control Lynch, they will be right there on every touch, so it’s always about Yards After Contact. And Lynch is one of the absolute best on Yards After Contact.

    — can you explain how he went 10 for 10 with 2tds in the 3rd Q of the Colts game with “properly inflated footballs”

  12. Yeah but can he explain how inaccurate Tom Brady will be now that the ball is at a legal psi?

Right, because he had such a rough time inthe 2nd half against the Colts. 28-0*

  13. I heard Rodger is sitting in Kraft’s box at the BIG GAME ! PFT its not about the game not even about practice its all about the BALLS !

  14. Can’t stand the hawks and their come lately fans but how can one not like beast mode. His new Skittles commercial is great. “I’d do something like this….*makes it rain skittles*”

I may be a bit bias though, he’s been my keeper league stud 3 years and counting.

  15. Dont get too excited hes been saying this every time he plays the Bills about player X Y and Z.

That guy has a template for press conferences. Except when hes been caught cheating.

  16. Why talk Super Bowl matchups when we can blame the Patriots for having to pee before football games? They weigh as much as ducks and are therefore witches!

Oh… so you wanted to him to say Jamaal Charles was the best back they faced. KC didn’t make the playoffs though… so it’s kind of irrelevant.

Didn’t a few Seahawks get caught using PED’s a few years ago including Richard Sherman?

  21. Other than spygate, can people give me a list of rules the Patriots have broken?

Spygate was a broken rule, I’m not denying that or pretending it didn’t happen. This is mostly for the people who say the Patriots are a ‘culture of cheaters’. So, where is this list that makes them the culture of cheaters?

    Remember two things

    a) They have been called cheaters before ‘ballgate’
    b) There is still no proof the Patriots cheated or had anything to do with it yet

So in a court of law, you wouldn’t be able to submit ‘ballgate’ to any jury.

So let’s hear the list. It HAS to be longer than other teams (by a long shot), right? Go…

  22. you have to hit this man with D-Linemen, apparently these LBs are not doing the job…only way to stop him is to disrupt him at the line of scrimmage and then swarm…the Panthers did a respectable job but wore down as most teams do…O-Line should get some credit too

  23. must suck to know that your team isnt playing this week, and probably hasnt played at this time of year in a long time or ever but you spend your days on the message boards spewing hate because that all you will ever get to do in the end of January with respect to football

keep up the hate i believe nobody is helping the pats more then the haters as this is an excellent motivator.

scream as loud as you can to anyone that will listen. the pats are cheaters and you know it, you don’t need evidence you are all arm chair investigative journalists.

and from this one pats fan to all of you my fellow couch scientists and nfl fans i just want to thanks you.

  24. I didn’t realize how much of a rag the Huffington Post was. Their writers are struggling to comprehend how the NFL has not suspended Tom Brady for the SuperBowl. And their conclusion: Sherman was right about Goodell and Kraft.

    Wow! Just wow!

  25. I guess Bill has conveniently forgotten the MNF debacle against KC when an injured Jamaal Charles ran for 92 yds & scored 3 TDs while Knile Davis tacked on another 107 yds rushing.

    ————————-

Yes, let’s talk about that. Because back then the Seahawks were in the midst of a 3-3 run and Sherman was embarrassed by Philip Rivers.

  26. Suddenly everyone is a model of integrity. Like the world is anywhere near a fair place. Are the people who get jobs the best for the job? No, of course not. How many times over the past 48 hours have you heard yourself mumble under your breath: that’s SO unfair!

And so how you do YOU adapt to this? You cut some corners. You call some rules stupid. You tell some fibs. You all do it. And I’m not saying this to defend the Patriots. I think it’s unlikely the Patriots did anything here wrong here, which makes them …. BETTER THAN YOU.

  27. Bill is obviously cheating again with these comments trying to soften up Lynch. That is obviously against the rules. I demand an investigation. Absolutely outrageous that they think they can flaunt all the rules. Absolutely outrageous that a QB who’s arm is too weak to throw a properly inflated football is playing in the Super Bowl instead of Peyton Manning, the greatest of all time.

If the Patriots win the Super bowl all of us intelligent fans should show up and picket the NFL office and stay there until they take away all of their titles and fold that team.

  28. “I’m still waiting for that list of things Patriots did to ‘cheat’ after Spygate…”

    ——————————————

Everyone did it. Bill just continued after the memo was sent around instructing ALL TEAMS to stop doing it. I think his mindset was one of functional paranoia: “Yeah like everyone is stopping. I’ll stop when I know everyone else has stopped.”

But he got caught violating a rule and we now act like the Pats contrived something diabolically exotic.

  29. Yes, let’s talk about that. Because back then the Seahawks were in the midst of a 3-3 run and Sherman was embarrassed by Philip Rivers.

Sherman wasn’t covering Antonio Gates. Why do you think it was his fault?

  30. I love all these Seahawks bandwagoners talking about the Pats cheating. The Seahawks entire defense last year was predicated on holding every receiver every play and expecting the penalty to only be called less than 10% of the time. The Seahawks have had multiple players test positive for PED’s to the point it sounds like they have adderall lieing around in punch bowls in the locker room. The Seahawks organization has been fined over $300k for holding illegal offseason practices multiple times since Pete Carrol has been the coach.

The problem with complaining about the Pats cheating is that the Seahawks engage in cheating on a routine basis. Seahawk fan = hypocrite.

  31. Spygate is the worst thing that ever happened in the history of professional sports at any time, any place.

    Deflategate is the second worst.

That includes PED scandals and the Black Sox.

  32. These Seahawk bandwagoners you’re talking about are actually fans of other teams that hate the Pats… so ya, they’re calling Pats cheaters and rooting for a Hawk win. But, they are not Hawk fans.

    Just sayin’

  33. Seahawks lead the league in PEDs since 2010… when Carroll was hired… who ran from USC because the NCAA caught him… cheating…

It’s like talking to a wall.

  34. SteveBeans, you’re not going to get a list, but fans of other teams will always call the Pats cheaters… that’s what happens when you win.

I wouldn’t call it jealously, but maybe it is… I just think it’s more hate than anything.

It’s like calling the Seahawks the “PED-hawks”, even though there’s only one player on this team that has been suspended for PED’s.

Or calling Pete Carroll “Cheat Carroll” because of what happened at USC. As if he’s able to control what agents give/don’t give to his players behind closed doors. And, I’m a UW fan, so I can’t stand USC.

The Saints will always be part of BountyGate… 20 years from now, all the players and coaches will be gone, and fans on these forums (if there still are forums then) will still bring that up… more so if the Saints are as good as the Pats and Hawks are right now.

    Just how human nature works…

  35. Bunch of haters in here. Can’t believe The jealousy in here. Just winning because your team isn’t there. Go pats.

  36. Seahawks lead the league in PEDs since 2010… when Carroll was hired… who ran from USC because the NCAA caught him… cheating…

It’s like talking to a wall.
    ———————–

I’ll use SteveBeans comment… how did Carroll cheat at USC? What exactly was his role?

And, tell me how players on the current team have been suspended for PEDs? I’ll give you a hint, it’s less than 2

  37. “Sherman embarrassed by Rivers”? Okay, I guess if giving up 5 catches for 50 yards and, zero touchdowns is embarrassing. As for the game, Lynch is a beast, Pats need to stop him if they want to win. I’m a life long Seahawks fan and think this will be a tough game for both teams. Enough with deflate gate, get over the lame PED jokes, respect that these are the two best teams in the league and let’s get it going.
    Go Hawks

  38. I’m not Seahawks fan, but man Marshawn Lynch is the best back in football. Awesome player.

Meanwhile…. Bill Belichick is the Marshawn Lynch of Cheating.

  39. Here, I’ll help… I’m not going to wait for your answer because revisionist history won’t allow you to get it right.

In a practice that was supposed to be non-contact, but full speed, Earl Thomas and a Brian Walters both dove for a pass. Because of the full speed, and both players going for the ball, Earl crushed Brian… it was on ESPN for a few days because everyone was RAVING about how fast and hard the Seahawks practiced. But, according to the CBA’s player safety rules, that contact isn’t allowed so they were fined.

Call it what you will, but that wasn’t about cheating…

  40. Can’t believe you all missed Belicheck’s subtle compliment of Le’Veon Bell. Since he hasn’t faced Bell yet, you’ll notice Bill said “we’ve faced” instead of “in the NFL”.

    For once, you’re right Belicheck.

  41. Remember when everyone thought Lynch was a fool for naming himslf Beastmode? Still, a jerk thing to do, but he set a lofty goal and achieved it. Now, we all call him Beastmode. I’m fine with that.

Agreed. Marshawn is 1b. to Le’Veon, in my opinion.

  43. “The Saints will always be part of BountyGate… 20 years from now, all the players and coaches will be gone, and fans on these forums (if there still are forums then) will still bring that up… more so if the Saints are as good as the Pats and Hawks are right now.

    Unfortunately you’re right.

The sad part is, the only thing I cared about with that ‘scandal’ was that dumb fans finally stopped mentioning spygate for a few seasons. Other than that, I thought it was extremely stupid, blown up, and the punishments were horrible (and I’m in no way a Saints fan).

  44. Jet fans are on this board the Jets the laughingstock of the league and their loudmouth Coach Rex Ryan keeps trolling losers

  45. Uh oh. Marshawn, when Bellichek starts praising you, better watch out ’cause he’s coming in for the kill. One piece of advice. Don’t believe your own publicity.

  46. Haters… Those asterisks are tattooed in your mind. That’s the only place it will forever exists; tormenting you, torturing you every waking hours but sadly, enriching your otherwise empty days. Whatever would you do if the Pats finally become irrelevant?

  47. For all of you Pats fans who call are talking crap about the “PEDhawks”… please tell me who the biggest offender of using PEDs was on the Seahawks? It wasnt Richard Sherman, he never got suspended, it was Brandon Browner. He wasnt able to play at all during the playoffs last year because of it and what team is he on now? Oh thats right, the Patriots.

  48. Browner was Seahawks when he was on peds and the hawks benefited from it. Now he is with the Pats and is trying to be good citizen just like Blount.— Don’t stick Browner ped problem on the Pats, it’s Seahawks’ trademark.
